After many years of being here, my outlook on this dojo has only gotten better. Thank you Claycomb…read moreAcademy of Martial Arts for continuing to provide me a safe and welcome space to train in. As a black belt my self with previous experience, it's hard to come by dojos that teach applicable and life-saving training, while remaining professional and helpful, though CKA has all of that! Especially as a female, this place has become my safe haven. I do not feel intimidated, like I would feel in a typical gym or mma studio. This dojo prides itself in teaching traditional Shotokan karate, but using it for its real intention of self-defense. Everybody there is training to better themselves and to bring each other up together, rather than competing to see who is the best. For those interested in signing up themselves or their children, the instructors come with a background of how to handle kids with ADHD and Autism. They are very patient with kids and show such empathy and kindness in their instruction. Having an autistic brother myself, I could see how these people put the time and effort in each student on the mat. If you are looking for a family-owned business that caters to your needs and teach with all their passion, you have found the perfect dojo for you!

We did feel like family here and the atmosphere of the waiting area was always very pleasant. You can always find friendly parents to talk to while waiting for the kids to finish class. Joseph is always friendly as well and loves to spark a conversation, which is perfect for those of us on the introverted side. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons not related to this establishment, we are unable to continue our membership :(

My youngest daughter's Taekwondo journey began a little over 6 years ago. We initially started out…read moreat the Rancho Cucamonga KTI location. Her journey took a pause about 8 months later when Covid 19 shut everything down. The result was the closure of that dojang, but this Fontana location reached out to us and extended the opportunity for her to continue classes at this dojang. It was a bit of an adjustment for her as far as technique, style and having to almost relearn everything due to the pause forced upon her journey. Master Nick and his fellow instructors have always been patient and kind, not only to my daughter, but to our entire family. As she's grown, she's developed quite a rapport with several of the instructors. Instructor Manny has sort of taken her under his wing and guided her along the way. There's a physical dynamic to this sport, obviously, but there's also a mental aspect as well, and that's something he's been able to help her with, helping her build confidence and remove negative self-talk. They offer group classes and also private lessons, a sparring class, cardio fitness class, etc. We also enjoy the special events they have which include visits from Kona Ice, Nerf Night, movie nights, BBQ and swim parties at the local aquatics center. They also hold an annual sparring tournament. It definitely feels like a family here. My daughter officially started her black belt training the day after testing for and receiving her red stripe belt. Instructor Manny took it upon himself to make sure she had her red stripe belt prior to the beginning of training. Black belt training is no joke. It's a 10-week training on top of regular classes, a 2-day testing and 6-month probation prior to receiving. The testing was intense and intimidating, but also one of the most amazing events I've ever been fortunate enough to witness. The camaraderie these students developed was amazing to see. Parents and supporters cheering them on. We're sworn to secrecy on the process, but that black belt was most definitely earned! This past weekend, probation was over and my daughter received her first degree black belt. She looks forward to continuing on the pursue her second degree and hopefully becoming a junior instructor. I'd highly recommend KTI for taekwondo! Thank you, KTI!

Follow up thoughts:…read more I stand by my original review, which reflects my personal experience and opinion -- both of which I have a legal right to share. Your public response includes multiple false and inflammatory claims about me, and I feel it's necessary to respond to set the record straight. The incident you referenced occurred during an open mat session in 2018. At the time, I was training under the supervision of one of your coaches, who explicitly asked me not to throw punches so I could work on my defense. I followed that instruction. The training was light, controlled, and respectful. Your later claim that I was recklessly sparring with brand-new students is inaccurate, and to my knowledge, no such concern was raised until you confronted me aggressively and physically escalated the situation. As I described in my review, you grabbed my shirt, followed me into the locker room, and shoved me into the lockers. You then followed me into the parking lot while still in gear. That was not professional or necessary. In my view, it was less about safety and more about control -- and when I didn't back down, it seemed to bruise your massive ego. Regarding the private lessons: I paid you personally for a package, and the sessions were not completed. That's a fact. Whether or not I submitted a formal refund request is irrelevant -- I paid for a service that was not fully delivered. You've now made public accusations that I submitted fake reviews, used vulgar language, and harassed you over several years. I unequivocally deny these claims. They are completely false. The fact that this is only being raised now -- in response to a critical review -- speaks for itself. My review was not harassment. It was protected speech, written to share my personal experience for the benefit of others considering your gym. Your public response -- filled with personal attacks and verifiably false claims -- only underscores the concerns I originally raised.

The instructor literally charges you for everything. We already had all the equipment and the guy still forced us to buy the same exact equipment of lower quality than the ones we already had which was better quality. Also the price was 2x more expensive. The class has no structure or discipline which is the main reason you sign up for. Everyone is just thrown in the same class. During sparing he'll put little kids against the big kids. My son was injured during the sparing competition and we decided that we'd pull him out. We were told if he gets injured we can opt out but that was a complete lie. The company gave us such a hard time and would not let off. He would need to break something or get severely injured! WTH. So you basically signed a forever contract. They kept charging and eventually went to collections. Please save yourself from their lies. This place has absolutely no honor or respect.

Questions were answered and I was invited to hang around and watch...no massive sales pitch. Nice It became clear very quickly that it was a well run dojo. Safety is stressed as well. Their first two rules are protect yourself & protect your partner. I also liked the fact that it wasn't just another "black belt mill." I saw too many of those in my quest: Write X number of checks, get a new belt. Um, no. That's not the way it's supposed to work. Moving up in rank should be a challenge, not simply handing over a few dollars more. Even the children understand that. Everyone understands the sense of accomplishment when a new belt is awarded...and it's great. And it's perfect for nearly all ages...even entire families. Check it out.
