We choose him over the other place in town, simply, a better vibe on the phone, we called ahead. 4 Hour Drive! WORTH IT! Phone call a week before, ready to answer questions, no need to make a reservation, "Just call me a 1/2 hour out" Bill said. Professional advice etc! Today, I was expecting to pick up plants, talk a little and head home. Not only answered all of our questions, asked what we were doing, our plans etc, full tour of everything, met his mom, , talked to one of his sons, showed us around, gave tips, his employees were awesome and knowledgeable. This IS his passion. For or some it is a job, for him he absolutely loves what he does! No minimums, extremely gracious, kind. Bill, if you see this, THANK YOU SO MUCH. For us, our visit to the Allen Family Farm is often the highlight of our vacation at the NJ shore. The only issue we ever have is that the hours and days vary based on the availability of the blueberries. Because of this, we have found that we must call the night before we plan to go so that our kids are not disappointed when we get up early (to avoid the heat of the day) and the farm is closed to let the blueberries ripen. We usually pick several pounds of blueberries, planning to freeze some for later, but often end up eating most of them before they get to the freezer.

Aside from that it was a fun outing with the family. Only about 40 months from home. Great fall weather and the picking was fun. We finished by going to the market which was a nice treat. We got some fresh, hot apple cider donuts and some other sweets. I'm glad we have this place a try. Typically we drive hours for the same experience. The apple prices were by the pound. Plenty of space to walk around and their peaches/nectarines tasted amazing. It was like nectars from the gods. Lol. There are free parking and entrance and their peaches/nectarines were $1.89 lbs. Very reasonable in my book. It's cash only so make sure you bring plenty of cash. When done, you should also visit their store. There are plenty of baked good and other delicious things to buy and they had a tasting station so that was cool too. Definitely don't leave without buying one of their pies. I brought half of their peach pies and my roommate and I loved it. Would I come back here again. Hell yesssss!!! This will not be my go to spoke going forward. We were hoping to find peaches that were more ripe because they were local. We found about two peaches that were a little softer but they had no smell. I was suprised that there were so few local items. If I wanted goods made in PA, I'd go to PA. I asked which produce items were local and it sounded like almost none of them. You can get baked goods, produce, bottled and jarred items like pickes, candy, meats, and "homemade" deli items. There were plants for purchase, some outdoor furniture, and a cafe. The best part of the place ended up being the animals. We fed some goats and took a phot with the large bull statue. I think this would be a great place to bring kids to see the animals. I don't think it's worth the drive if you're staying on the coast because it's mostly grocery store quality produce and items you can get for less elsewhere. But, if you need something to do with kids and you're close by, it's worth a stop.

On this visit, I tried the Blueberry Banana Smoothie and the Turkey Sandwich at their cafe. The smoothie was incredible, vibrant purple, perfectly thick. The turkey sandwich was equally impressive; the bread was toasted to a perfect golden brown, and the balance of the melted cheese and sauce made for a great brunch. Beyond the cafe, it's the perfect spot to grab some fresh fruits and baked goods for home. Definitely a local gem!

The local corn was quite a bit higher in price than "NJ corn" at my farm market in PA. Other prices I had to watch and remember what I paid on the other side of the river. But they had an abundance of peaches, and high yield normally means good prices so yes, THAT was a bargain! Their "marked" produce (aka "seconds" or "ripe") is reduced price and was $11.25 for 10lb peck of peaches. It took a month to eat; they kept beautifully in the fridge! Absolutely awesome deal! Staff was friendly young adults, and they even took time to relate to my kid, which was super nice. I will be back when I'm the area!

My husband had planned a trip for us to go sunflower picking at Timberline Farms over the weekend…read more The days leading up to our visit, we were constantly checking the weather forecast as there was a high chance it was going to rain. Joe, the owner was cool enough to reach out to my husband hours before our reservation to let him know we can come by after our 10am reservation when the rain stops. It ended up just being light rain, which worked out for us, as we brought our dog who tends to overheat. Timberline Farms IS dog friendly! When we arrived, Joe handed us a couple of buckets and knives and we proceeded to pick out our sunflowers. The 2-acre sunflower field has over 35,000 sunflowers and was amazing! We could pick as many sunflowers as our buckets could hold. Walking through the sunflower fields and taking pictures was fun! At the end, we get to go home with the sunflowers we've picked. All of this is included in the $12 ticket price. We also saw Joe's wife, Kelly milking a goat at the farm. She uses the goat milk to make soap. The soaps are beautiful and smell lovely, and I cannot wait to use them! These soaps are also available on their website and tend to sell out quickly.

The blueberries were added last year (2014) and they have a few varieties available. We emailed in the morning to find out if the timing was right for a visit and Karl's wife, Janet responded quickly to confirm that they were open and could handle our big group of 15 adults and kids. We quickly picked about 13 pounds of blueberries. They're tasty and we're enjoying blueberry pancakes and have plans for many more treats. So when my friend and I learned about pick your own vegetables experience at Specca Farms, we were so excited to visit. This place is no doubt a little bit of a hike from the city, but it's totally worth the time and effort it takes to come out here. The whole farm is absolutely beautiful and very well organized for pick your own vegetables. It was so nice to be able to be in the fields and being one with nature and picking your own vegetables and learning so much about the bounty of Earth. Everything that we picked here tasted so amazing and fresh. We also met the owner David, who was so kind and I loved chatting with him and learning more about the farm and when the other fruits and vegetables are going to to be ripe for picking.
