The bus stop is…read moreliterally out in the middle of a street in a complex; it's not the safest place to be if you're a woman traveling alone so make sure someone comes with you to drop you off. The driver & staff at this location were awesome but the resources are terrible here. No way would I ever take Megabus to go to NC considering the unsafe bus stop situations & largely inconvenient scheduling. We actually arrived from here to DC early but you can't even get an earlier bus if you get to DC despite those buses leaving every half hour to NYC. I had to wait around 3+ hours only to have the bus I was to leave on be over 30 minutes late. After standing around in line forever, the lady at the bottom of the bus gets all pissy at me for not having upper body strength or some guy to lift my heavy suitcase up to her. When I point out that I weight about 100 pounds & can lift about 20 pounds comfortably, she says "Maybe you shouldn't have packed so much stuff." Geez, lady I only have clothing & Christmas gifts and food in there. Maybe you think I'm not even entitled to have any oxygen b/c I'm so little. Would she be telling some frail old lady this? What is she getting paid for? On the return, I had to injure myself to get my suitcase from this high distance all by myself. Chivalry is definitely dead & the customer service at Megabus offered no help at all. No partial refunds, no "we're sorry about that" or even thinking of the suggestion to let those who actually arrive at the layover early carry their ticket on to the connecting bus earlier for no extra charge. After all this, my mother (who paid for the tickets) said "We're not dealing with this for you to get here next Christmas."

Every time the drivers show up on time, know where they are going, are very friendly, and everything goes very smoothly. I am giving Greenway 5 starts because the excellent customer service. There was one instance when I first started chartering buses from Greenway where my team accidentally forgot to submit the contract. I called Marc on his cellphone just a couple hours before the event and he mentioned to me that I never submitted the contract so he assumed I went with another vendor. I informed him that we had every intention of submitting the contract and that there was a miscommunication. Marc saved the day by informing me that he would be able to have 5 buses ready by the time of my event. Even though it was short notice (on my end), the buses arrived on time and the drivers were very pleasant. I have never had any problems working with Greenway, and would recommend them anytime and every time! This is an excellent company to work with.

(Charlotte's much older, less well-kept station stands in stark contrast to this.) The only complaint: Parking is very limited; there is a gravel overflow lot with signs threatening towing but it's clear most cars there are not Amtrak customers; best advice is to take an Uber rather than plan to park there. We ended up taking a chance on a parking deck 1/3 mile away and hoped for the best. Apart from that: I must mention the staff in both the station and on the trains. They are friendly, helpful, and seem genuinely interested in doing their jobs and engaging with passengers. On both legs of a recent journey we were approached by conductors who seemed to be something more like ambassadors for Amtrak -- happy, wanted to talk about our trip and interests, mentioned things to see on our visit, etc. Really exceptional customer experience.

It's right next to downtown Durham. I was pretty impressed! There's not really anything in the way of food, but there are modern and clean bathrooms. For inexpensive food you probably have to go west a long ways on Chapel Hill street, or much farther northeast through town. The area nearby has become expensive restaurants and highways. Actually at some times I think there are Food Trucks nearby.
