It is sparse and the trees haven't started leafing out yet so I was hoping the whole trail didn't look like this. I'm glad I was patient. About .5 mile in, the trail hot to a neat old bridge and then ran right next to a river with mated pairs of ducks and geese. A little further on, the trail became windy and had a big pond with bull frogs croaking and turtles trying to cross the road. The area will be very shady when the leaves start coming. This is a heavily traveled trail on the weekends so be careful when walking so you don't become a casualty of a runner, biker, roller blader.

For me it is nice because it is close to home but can still give a taste of nature when i dont have time to make it all the way to the mountains for a hike. This is one of my pups favorite spots. The one time they got away from home, this is where they came. There are dog poop bags at the trail head. There are also trash cans, and a recycling can and bathroom at the parking lot. Just like every other trail head in northern colorado, there is a chance of a thief breaking into your car. please dont leave anything valuable in your car. Dont hide it and think they wont find it because they can. It just takes the wrong person being there at the right time. Please please take all valuables with you. I have started leaving my car unlocked at the trail head and taking my car registration with me when i am out. So far it is working from having my door lock busted into over and over...... This natural area has multiple ways you can loop around. We generally end up walking around 2 miles here. There are many trees and weeds, however the trail is clear. It is supposed to be a leashed trail, however sometimes people will come and break the rules... hopefully that is not you ;) If you only have time for a walk and you are in town, i do recommend coming by here. take a few breaths and escape from all the craziness of busy life.

Loved this trail! Have lived in colorado for over 40 years now and i did not know this trail…read moreexisted. Crosier mountain trail is around 40 minutes from fort collins. Go up highway 34 and then towards drake. There is a small dirt parking lot with what looks like a locked gate. there are no signs that this is a trail. However if you go through the gate and walk up the hill a bit then you will see the trail sign. The trail round trip is 10.2 miles. We only did 5.5 miles today because of time constraints, but definitely want to go back. The trail starts off in the open and then gets you back into a wooded area. The views are pretty stunning and there were some fall colors popping in various parts of the hike. There is a lot of elevation gain. I believe i saw the trail has over 3000 feet of elevation gain from start to finish. In the first 2.5 miles we did 1500 feet of elevation gain. Parts are fairly rocky. But the trail is clear and well worn. Dogs are allowed but need to be leashed. It says that mountain bikers are also able to use the trail as well. The sign did say that rattle snakes can still be in this area so be on the look out if you go up. I loved that we were out for a couple of hours and didn't run into a soul. that is my kind of hiking experience.

Watch for the sign that tells you you are entering RMNP the first sign is a No Travel Zone. This is where your four legged buddy can't go any further. No dogs allowed anywhere in RMNP. Starting June 1 or 4th? Day Hikers are required to get a permit. As far as I know this is temporary just to ease the amount of visitors for obvious reasons. Length: 18.4 miles RT Elevation Gain: 3,330 ft Route: Out & Back Lost Lake is rated as moderate in AllTrails. I don't think so. For day hikers without a heavy backpack maybe. But the length of the hike and add downed trees and snow covered trail and off trail adventure it really turns out a difficult trail. I've been here about four times and I'm making this my last time. This is a 9.2 miles fairly isolated lake. This past weekend we were the only souls that was determined to reach the lake. Runners and say hikers turned around because of the reasons mentioned above. Rain was a constant this weekend. Heavy downpours. At this point sometimes I wonder why don't I just stop doing this? It's very hard on your body and even harder when the backpacking food that we chosen to bring with us failed miserably! But we love backpacking. Can't stop. Won't stop. We've seen incredible sunrise, awe inspiring sunsets and jaw dropping frozen lakes and so much more! No frozen lake this trip but still pretty. Lots of grey clouds.

The left branch, Meadows Trail (#947), is the slightly less strenuous but longer, and rejoins the main trail about 2.6 miles later. The right main branch turns uphill for 1.7 miles where it meets the upper end of the Meadows Trail. From the upper junction an additional ¾ mile climb leads to the summit. Trailhead signs warn of Giardia in the water and poison ivy growing along the trails of Greyrock. Greyrock trailhead accommodates approximately 39 vehicles." Parking lot is on the left of the road. There is a pit toilet available. There are not however any trash cans or dog poop bags. You will need to pack out what you pack in, including dog poop bags. The trail is pretty rocky and if you are going to opt to go all the way up to the summit, it is some scrambling. There are a few options of routes to go -Summit trail out and back -meadow trail to the summit and down the summit trail -summit trail to summit - down the meadow trail This area was unfortunately impacted by the High park fire around 11-12 years ago and sadly the trees are mostly dead and burned for most of the hike. In the spring i am sure that you would be able to see green grasses and flowers growing underneath though.

From Estes Park travel to the 8-mile marker on Hwy. 36. It has a smaller parking lot probably could hold 10 cars. It starts off with a pretty steep climb, but there is a fair amount of shade and some water crossings along the way. This is a great trail in my opinion if you have dogs especially on the warmer sunny days. There is a bathroom at the beginning of the trail but there is not however any trash cans, so when you go you need to go with the intention of packing out all the bring you in. Including your dog poop. I can't remember if there were dog poop bags at the trail head so if you have a dog be sure to pack some with you (and then take them out with you) There are lots and lots of ways to go on teh trail and a variety of old homesteads to see. It is really quite cool. There are signs with some of the history along the route as well. Right now about half the trail is covered in ice, so if you dont have yak traks or spikes it would be best to not go until later as there are parts that are a sheet of ice.
