We rented four kayaks from Lakeside Outfitters today, including two for our children, and honestly,…read morewe were very disappointed. The adult kayaks had no ropes, tie-downs, or any way to secure personal belongings. These weren't just missing a few extras--the kayaks were extremely basic and bare. Without a way to secure your belongings, items can easily fall out of the kayak and be lost in the water. When we asked about ropes or tie-downs, we were told there was nothing available. We made do with what we had, but we shouldn't have had to. For a family renting four kayaks, we expected better. Based on today's experience, we would not use or recommend Lakeside Outfitters to our friends or family. There are other rental shops that can provide a better-equipped experience, so I would strongly recommend looking at those options before renting here.

We were looking at the map and had read the website, but thought that we might just have to "transport" (walk) them across the street to the lake, but NO, there is NO lake access at the Outfitters. Luckily we had called that morning to verify and had enough cars to transport all of the kayaks we needed. They said that they aren't allowed to transport them since the state owns the lake. They provide straps and help you get them on your car and strapped on, but pay attention because you'll have to do it yourself when you bring them back. It was a bit challenging but we managed to do it without any of them flying off of our cars. Definitely get there early before your rental time so you can get everything loaded. We put in at Salmon Run and had a great time on Summersville Lake! The store itself has lots of different items you'd need for a day at the lake or camping.
