Don't be fooled by the looks of this place, my grandmother prematurely died as a result of this facility. She came in due to a small inoperable hip fracture with the goal to stabilize her pain/anxiety so that a similar regimen can be given to her at home and instead was drugged around the clock until she went into a medication induced coma. They see the elderly and just assume they are imminently dying and they "don't chase symptoms" so they continue with their round the clock euthanasia cocktail of Ativan, Haldol, and Hydromorphone without even attempting to find a balance between controlling pain without totally incapacitating the patient where they can no longer wake up, talk, eat or drink. What do you think happens with the continuous round the clock administration of benzodiazepines and opioids? the medications begins to build up in the system faster than the body can excrete them and it will put any average person into a coma. Our family is not unrealistic and we do acknowledge that this cocktail is appropriate for some patients however managing pain/anxiety is not a one size fits all but they treat it that way here under the guise of "comfort" but it is actually all about THEIR convenience. They also have an excuse for everything, and if they notice any slight movement in your loved one they will deem it "terminal agitation" or claim they are in pain and once again come in with the syringe to put them out. The saddest part of this is that I'm sure a lot of well meaning family members probably fall for this. At one point, my grandmother was able to slightly wake up despite being unable to open her eyes and she was able to eat an ice cream that we were feeding her, at which point in comes the nurse with the syringe and puts the medication in her mouth in between the spoonfuls of ice cream she was enjoying. It was such a betrayal that the image still haunts me. It's as if their primary goal is to have every patient obtunded 24/7. They insult your intelligence and try to gaslight you that your loved one who came into the facility walking, talking, and enjoying meals (as their baseline) somehow went into a coma not because of their excessive use of sedatives but because "she was in the dying process". I truly have no idea how this doctor came up with the assessment that my grandmother was imminently dying considering she came in walking, talking, and eating on her own and that all of her labs from Advent Health on the same day she came into this facility were perfect, and her imaging besides a mildly displaced hip fracture, were unremarkable. My grandmother did not have cancer, copd, CHF, pneumonia, or any sort of kidney disease, she was just old and frail and they made an assumption due to her age instead of an appropriate assessment/record review. We watched my grandmother be slowly euthanized without food or water all while they continued to gaslight us that she came in dying. The truth is, she died after this facility continuously overdosed her while they watched her body slowly shut down from a lack of food and water for 9 days. After the 9th day, we realized what was happening and that she was over medicated and dehydrating to death and we demanded an IV but it was too late by then, she died on her 14th day in this facility. To add insult to injury, the socials workers and doctor attempted to bully us once we decided to hold the scheduled cocktail and only give medications as needed, they were frustrated that she had not died on their timeline wanted us to take her home in a now vegetative state so they could turnover the room. Our biggest regret was having allowed our loved one step foot into this place and it is a regret that will haunt us for the rest of our lives. Of course we know they will read this and come up with an excuse of "misplaced grief" or "miscommunication". I urge you to not bring any loved one to this facility, unless they are really in the imminent stages of death (less than 1 week of life), and definitely do not send relatives here on a respite, or for short term symptom management. read more
