Happy at Home should be your first call!!!…read more Sydney and Emily are the ONLY reason I was able to move back to my home in Los Angeles vs. continuing to live with my dad in Iowa. They are truly the biggest blessing. I will happily speak with anyone about how great the services have been and provide a glowing recommendation. They have both done so much more than occupational therapy for my dad. Below is a list of just a FEW of the many things they have done for us: - Occupational therapy - Physical therapy - the best physical therapist we have had by far (Kassi) - Connected us to virtual therapist - Connected us with an extremely affordable elder care attorney - Referred us to payees/money management assistance - Speech pathology - Connected us with other elder care management resources that would assist me as a caretaker - Signed my dad up and got him approved for a grant to upgrade home like making bathtub ADA compliant - Connected us with PACE which is like Elderly Care Waiver but they also manage doctor's appointments - Joined my dad on doctor's appointments and gave me updates - Home assessment and recommendations/help making mobility improvements - Christmas gift program where volunteers "adopt a senior" and provided amazing gifts two years in a row - Free webinars from resources like elder care attorneys about Power of Attorneys and things like that. - Connected us with OT resources and free support for my nephew who has autism. Then they went above and beyond even more!! I was asking them to do things that I knew wouldn't be covered by insurance as occupational therapy. Basically I needed a stand-in for me, someone who would cover the things that fall through the cracks and aren't covered by a specific home health provider. They created a private pay program and allowed me to request help on random things that did not fall under the OT/insurance umbrella. For example, they joined him on a succession planning meeting with an extended family member so that he had support. They helped fix Alexa gadgets and let me know when the A/C wasn't working. Honestly I should have had to pay Sydney for being MY mental health therapist as she was such a moral support when I was overwhelmed. Sydney is like the daughter I wish I could be haha. Emily is her protégé and I love them both. Soooo many other things that I will probably need to write another review as I think of them. We used SO many CDAC and home health companies over the last 2 years, Happy at Home is by far the best and we use them consistently even while we had to use the other companies to supplement services for whatever reason. I definitely preferred all the partners contracted through Happy at Home. We are now ready for assisted living and I hope we can continue to keep Happy at Home involved in our care plan. I feel like they are literally the only people who have been this helpful and connected and provided continuity. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Happy At Home Consultant came to my home late November 2022. I had been experiencing falls. Karen…read moreSpeicher came to access what what would make my home safer. I went into my bedroom to get something & Karen followed me in. I told her my bedroom is a private area. The 2nd time Karen came she stood at me bedroom doorway & said "I see you made your bed today." I again told her my bedroom was private & I closed the door. Without permission from me she went into my bathroom & was laying down sticky-strips in my tub. I'm not a dirty person by any means but I would have liked to wiped down the tub first. The strips a few strands of hair under them, that I couldn't get out. Karen didn't wash her hands first so the strips were dirty. Karen put in the handle bar toilet helper & it was wobbling, loose & dangerous. It doesn't look that way, in the picture they used on their website, with out my permission. Karen came over without an appointment at 4pm wanting to come in & help me. I told her no. After I told them, I did my best with her but vwe just didn't suit each other. Sydney came over with the Nurse Linda. We talked about my needs & the Nurse Linda & I made an appointment. Linda contacted me about a week later to set up an appt with me.I said we made an appt. & I told her the date & time. I also said, I like my appts in the late mornings as I get high anxiety waiting until later. Linds said she gets high anxiety when she has to change people's appts. We made an appt. When she & Sydney were in my home. 2 days later I recieve a text from Linda (not for me) she was asking someone "Is Catherine that crazy lady in the apartments?" Even if Linds wasn't referring to me, she was still calling a client "crazy". This is unprofessional at the least. Linda is a registered nurse & should not be working with the public. Especially with older people like me, who can have anxiety or dementia problems. Well, long story long. Don't put your care or a relatives care in the hands of Happy At Home Consulting. I won't. Thank you for listening. I would put Negative ZERO Stars but, you have to give at least 1.

To begin I will start by saying that my family and I rarely complain about service. That being said…read moreI am writing this review in the hopes that I can reach at least one person considering Home Instead as an option for their loved ones and to share my experience with them. First, we were referred to this company by our rehabilitation specialist after my mom had a stroke. She has been in recovery ever since and needed a few days a week to assist with normal living routines like eating breakfast and getting ready for the day. She didn't need a lot, just some basic things when me and my other family were not available during the week. Our first experience with anyone from this company was quite good. We met with Leah who was kind, respectful and professional. She listened to our situation and set us up in their system. Then we had our first nurse. Our first nurse, can't remember her name, was fine. She went through all the right steps, no complaints. Then Wendy happened. Wendy was our second nurse of the week. Wendy showed up over 45 MINUTES late on a day where weather should not have been an issue. I received a phone call from Home Instead about 25 minutes AFTER she was supposed to be there explaining she would be late but didn't know exactly when. The excuse? She wasn't familiar with our home town. My first thought was wow, she doesn't have an operable cell phone? This caused me to have to stay home almost a full hour and miss work. Unacceptable. Then Wendy arrived. She proceeded to get to the house, and it was immediately clear she absolutely did have a cell phone, because she was on it CONSTANTLY. Now this may not seem like a big deal, but my mom's balance was impacted by the stroke, and she needs to be watched when moving throughout the house. Wendy would stand somewhere a few feet behind my mother while ON HER PHONE. We then asked her to make our mom's bed, which she did by throwing a single pillow (my mom has about 10 decorative pillows all on the floor which daily are thrown back onto the bed) onto the bed and not fixing the sheets, leaving all the rest scattered on the floor. She then asked my sister, who was home (thank god) to borrow my sister's cell phone (remember, Wendy's cell is very much functional as she was on it 80% of the time she was here) to "make a few calls". My sister immediately said no, as she should. Wendy finally left and we were completely shocked. We reached out to Leah to discuss our experience and she was very apologetic. She didn't charge us for that service, which I thought was handled correctly. A few days later we get another two nurses. I can't remember their names. Between the two of them over the next week: my mom wasn't fed at breakfast (2 times) or lunch (2 times). This was part of the very basic responsibility of what we hired them to do. My mom doesn't like to complain, so I didn't hear about the first few times they just didn't feed her until this last week. That was the last straw for me so I called Leah and informed her we would no longer be using their services and would be taking our business to a recommended competitor. Now, during their initial contract setup they informed us they require at least a week's notice if termination of service would be required. So when I called and terminated I was operating under the assumption we would have an additional week to get our new care team setup. The following Tuesday (one of the days we need people to help us) they scrambled to get someone here. She was about on time but we sent her home as I was sick and already with my mother for the day. Then, on Wednesday night around 6 pm by gut told me to check with Leah to ensure that we had someone for Thursday (our last day we would need assistance from Home Instead). About 6:30 I got a text saying something to the effect of "sorry, we were unable to find anyone to cover for tomorrow". 6:30. After I prompted a response. We were left in the DUST with absolutely no regard and no professional curtesy or letting us know we had no one. It is just my sister, mom and I in our family. Sometimes we need a little extra help since my mom's stroke. They knew that when getting to know our family. They knew our situation is difficult and we needed someone we could count on to fill in some gaps when we weren't available a few hours a week to talk care of our mother. We are internally a very optimistic bunch, but this was a very, very poor experience. I hope at least one person reads our experience and considers it before going with Home Instead. They were unprofessional, uncoordinated, uncaring, and most importantly they ADDED significant stress instead of doing their jobs and reducing it. Please do not use their services. They simply don't deserve your business. I would give them a 0 if I could.
