Showed up to my appointment on time only to find my barber Ray already giving a haircut. I don't know if he double booked or if it was a walk in. 25 minutes later and the haircut was done. Ray then waltzed out the door for a 5 minute smoke break. Once finally seated, Ray proceeded to give me an uneven trim complete with a sloppy fade. I had Moe and the only positive thing I could say about him is that he was able to take me in on 30 minutes notice. However, he did the opposite of what I had requested. I had asked for a trim and showed him a picture of the length i wanted. When asked what length for the front, I told him eyebrow height. He then proceeded to cut a majority of my hair and cut the front way above my eyebrows. He also turned me away from the mirror so I didn't see it until it was done. It seemed like he didn't want to be there and only knew how to do a crew cut. And it's a bad crew cut at that. The haircut he gave me just objectively does not look good. I do not want to even provide pictures as that would be too embarrassing. I would not recommend this place if you want your hair to look good. read more

So I've been sending my son and his father here for 20+ years. The old guys who used to run this place were awesome, cut with scissors, had character, were social, friendly, always left with a top notch clean cut. A true man's barbershop! So what we were told when the old guys left, one of the sons was taking over, not sure if true but someone had definitely taken over. Change is either good or bad but with family or new owners either way, you always hope for it to be just as consistent as it was for many more decades to go. It really breaks my heart to say this. My son and my husband have received the worst hair cuts in the last year from this place since last summer. Recently my husband had waaaay over grown hair and we drove over, Pulled up, guy with buzz cut, beer belly rubbing it, standing on parking block right out front puffing on a cig. Ugh! he was employed here, followed my hubs in but it was another younger guy that cut his hair. So my husband is a manly man not some pompous hair dude. Never says anything about hair, doesn't care. But he is so embarrassed of this last cut. Its short its long there are bald spots around his forehead the back top is just chopped off there are random pieces long and the topper - the guy cut his hair into a shape of a "V". The pojnt is in the back. What!!! My son just moved back from cali and couldn't wait to get a nice clean fade again, as he always tried to hit up this place on visits. Even he is confused as to what happened with this place. He walked out looking like MC Hammer of crack yo. I was like wth! Never felt this way about any cut he has ever got from here before. So now they are both growing their hair out (lucky for them it grows fast) My husband said they are more a trendy clipper cutters now. He doesn't think anyone knows how to use a pair of scissors after the last 5-6 cuts uh hmmm I mean clipper cut.... so so so sad I am posting this kind of review for this place. read more

This was my first time at this barbershop and it exceeded my expectations. My brother and I both received haircuts from Chin and were both very happy with our results. I get a little nervous when receiving a fade but Chin made sure that I was happy before I left. Chin is new to the store he said but seems to have great vision for your hair to best suit you. My usual barber was packed and recommended this place. Glad they did. Very small, very old-school. The usual sports banter and magazines. Nothing fancy, just a really good haircut. Went there with the intention of getting a haircut, but I left without one. First thing I noticed was that the barbers were getting drunk on the job and hip hop music is literally making the mirrors in the back rattle from the bass, so immediately I'm sketched out, wondering if I want to get my hair cut by what looks like a drunk frat boy. No big deal, though, a beer or two never killed anyone, I guess. I walk in an hour before closing time and was told that I would get a spot. I waited there over half an hour with no prospect of actually getting a turn. I would have waited longer, but it got worse really quickly when some of the barbers and patrons started exchanging rape jokes and talking about all the disgusting stuff they'd done while drunk. In the end, I just walked out. Who wants to give money to people like this? TLDR: This place feels more like a nightmarish frat party than anything else. read more

My husband was a little late, but they were still able to take him in and were really nice and considerate! Sean took his time, making sure every little detail was perfect. I passed this place while coming home from work today and made a note of the phone number. When I got home I called to ask about an appointment. The man on the line told me "we're all really busy, can't you just book online?" That was the end of the conversation. Not a good first impression, which disappoints me because of all the great reviews I just read. I'd been growing my hair out for about a year and a half, and decided that, now that I was at this level of commitment, I'd do well to seek out a somewhat more premium cut than simply the value places I've been in the past. Santarelli's seemed to have a good average rating (though I really should have READ the reviews rather than just glancing at the number). When I arrived there were two employees sitting around while a third was cutting a customer's hair. One of the idle men took one look at my shoulder length curly hair, asked if I was keeping it long, and with my positive response, deferred to the man currently helping another customer. Thinking waiting it out would be worth it for the no doubt stellar cut I was about to receive (or so I thought), I did just that - for about 40 minutes. When my turn came, I showed the 'barber' a photo of the style I wanted and communicated what I'd like: a little off the sides so that the rest of my hair, still kept long, would be able to lay flat. I should have noticed that he turned away and seemed to become distracted literally before I was halfway finished with each sentence. And so my descent of my follicles into tartarus began. Things seemed to be going well, though I was confused as to why exactly I was turned AWAY from the mirrors they'd obviously put a great deal of effort into installing in the place. The barber was visibly confused as to how and whether to wet my hair, as well as whether to COMB it out before cutting (narrow comb through curly hair - ask a non-bald CHILD what is likely to happen with that combination). I had some ideas on that subject, sure, but he presumably knew more about it than I did! I'd also very clearly asked for my beard to only be trimmed from the sides - nothing about the mustache. When I felt the clippers sliding over my precious twirled handlebar, I asked him firmly to stop, and if I could see the rest of the cut. Acquiescing, the barber pulled a handheld mirror out so I could see myself from a single strained, awkward angle, from which I was mistakenly led to believe that things were proceeding well. He finished up the cut, and turned his bad excuse for a handheld mirror back on me to "review it" through the glut of thick, textured cream he'd slathered on my hair (when I'd asked him for ADVICE about a LIGHT product to calm it down). Deceived by the smoke and (unused) mirrors, I paid for my cut and went home. Over the next few days, my insistent and self-delusional optimism faded, and I was slowly forced to come to terms with the gruesome mangling of my once-luscious locks: the blending was non-existent, with pieces of hair fully 4 inches longer than the surrounding areas popping up in bundles at various, inconsistent places around my head. I had to go in a week later with clippers and do what little I could to mitigate the damage. The "keep it all long except a little off the sides" manifesto was interpreted by this surrealist mixed-media head-artist as "make this guy's hairdo look like a mop - let's cut 6 inches off of everywhere except the very top." The haircut I received at Santarelli's was truly the most amateurish one I've ever seen or received; instructions simply not followed, useless products advised for, and premium prices charged for a product less than functional, to say the least. It seems this place once had a tradition of skilled, satisfactory service. As with all things, the seasons roll on, and the times change. Your life hangs on the precipice of chaos already, you don't need to delve into the unknown with your haircut, too. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else. read more

I went here on a whim because I very badly needed a haircut. I think I'll soon become a regular. This is a tiny shop, tucked away by O'Reilly's, the paint store, and that small Asian market. I love the sense of seclusion it has, despite a location on High St. The interior feels very old school, very cozy. The barbers had Pandora playing with some indie rock. It was a very relaxing experience. Most importantly, the haircut was very good - and at $15 I feel like I received my money's worth. My hair was a mess going in, and on point going out. I've had my hair cut here before- I usually just do a cleanup. This time I haven't had a haircut in about a month so it's a bit longer so I also wanted to get about an inch taken off and blend the sides. Booked my appointment online, showed the barber a photo of what I would like and explained to her what I wanted. Nothing like I expected, shorter than what I wanted and uneven length near my crown. I've been satisfied with the two haircuts I've gotten from here. Both barbers understood what I wanted and were competent enough to provide a good haircut. I will say that the service isn't the best or the most welcoming. I feel like if you're not a regular or friend of someone there, you probably won't be greeted in a friendly way or maybe not even acknowledged. At least that was my experience both times.
