Today was our first time at Goodfellow's and we'll definitely be back! I spent time looking up different barber shops, trying to find a place where my son would have a good experience since his last couple cuts were really terrible. Booking was simple and you can easily see everyone's availability online. Since this was our first time, I wasn't sure who to pick, but I noticed that Cory had over 500 five star reviews so we went with him. I'm not sure how difficult parking is on a normal basis but we were able to park on the side street with no trouble. Once we stepped on to High Street, I wasn't quite sure which building it was because the lettering on the window is slightly hidden (and I didn't pay attention to what the address was when I started my navigation) but once you walk up closer you can see the barber pole. When you walk in you feel like you're walking back in time a little. The whole vibe was pretty great! When you walk in the counter is directly in front of you and there are some stairs that go up to what I believe is the massage area. There is seating there by the door and also off to the right, including a sofa. We were greeted right away and only had to wait for a little bit to get started. The barbers are in two different sections and there is enough space so you don't feel super crowded. My son told Cory exactly what he wanted and that's what Cory did. Cory talked with my son and made him feel comfortable which I absolutely loved because normally my son doesn't talk to the barber other than answering with head nods or simple words. I think Cory did a great job treating my son like a young man instead of a kid. My son had a little complaint and Cory fixed the issue immediately. I'm pretty sure my son just found his permanent barber! Even if you have to drive a little further, I think this place is definitely worth checking out. After living in Columbus for a few years, I'm happy to say I finally found a barbershop that I will continue using. Goodfellow's Tonsorial Parlor was recommended by a friend after I griped about having a difficult time finding a reliable barber in Columbus. Welp, this little gem in German Village is just what I was looking for! It's an old house converted into a barbershop with 1-2 chairs per room. The decor is awesome and it feels very cozy. Booking online is a breeze, and no credit card is required to make an appointment for a regular haircut ($35). There is free street parking on High St or some of the side streets. I've been to two different barbers, and both did a great job on the cut. Personalities were surely different though -- one was very chatty, the other not so much. I rarely leave reviews on here, I would even say never, but the service at Goodfellow's Tonsorial Parlor has left me utterly disappointed. I came in expecting a simple, neat trim, and I walked out with a haircut WAY shorter than what I asked for. I asked for half an inch off, but instead received TWO WHOLE INCHES OFF. Despite the awful haircut, the stylist who cut my hair was actually very kind, so I don't want to take away from that, but unfortunately she really messed up my hair. It seems her fingers were weighing her down...I appreciate kindness and good customer service, but at the end of the day, I came for a haircut I could feel good about, and now I'm stuck waiting for it to grow out before I can fix it somewhere else. I drove 60 miles from Apple Valley to get my hair and beard trimmed. That's how impressed I was with this place. Unfortunately, a recent appointment will likely ensure I never go back. I would meet my nephew at Goodfellows for trims and a few drinks. Today, I was driving in for an appointment for my 12:00 and my nephews 12:15 appointments. I was running a little late and called Goodfellows to let them know. After apologizing for running late, I suggested that my nephew take my noon slot as I would be there by 12:15. I was told by the barber who answered (I won't include names) that it doesn't work like that, and they couldn't switch the appointments, even though I could have scheduled the appointment according to the resolution I was suggesting. I never asked anyone to wait for me or accommodate me because I knew they were booked, and I admitted this was solely my fault. After speaking to my nephew, we decided to cancel. I called beck and reached the barber I was scheduled with. I explained the situation and asked that he cancel our appointment and charge me any cancelation fee. This barber said that he could remove the straight razor shave and be able to do the remaining services if I wanted to keep the appointments. I agreed and told my nephew I would meet him there. This would have been a settled "win-win," but as my nephew was seated in the lobby waiting to be called, he heard a barber talking to another client about me and how disrespectful and inconsiderate it was to be late and expect them to deal with it. My nephew walked out after hearing this conversation. I enjoyed this place and was willing to drive 60 miles for the experience, but guess what. SH$T HAPPENS! I apologized. I offered to pay the cancelation fee. I offered a resolution that would have had no impact on them. In summary, you will need to determine if this is a positive or negative review. I loved this place until I had a problem and needed the tiniest of help and consideration. Now, knowing what I know, how can I spend the time, money, gas, especially with this "gossip awareness," to visit this place again? Any issue should be addressed to my face and not with another client. Goodfellows has lost two customers, and we have lost a great place to go when we need a trim! Walking into Goodfellow's is like taking a step back into a barber shop in the '20s. It's warm, homey, and feels very masculine without being aggro alpha. Scheduling was a breeze with their online schedule, and I received double confirmation, so no worries that when I arrived they weren't expecting me. This was my first time at Goodfellow's and Ethan was awesome, despite getting some tough news just prior to my time. He was professional, courteous, and really down to earth, and bonus, he gave me a rocking cut. I'm for sure returning here as the location is convenient and street parking was surprisingly plentiful for being on High Street. Pricing is great, and they're doing equipped for libations with, before, or after your barbering. Today My Bf and I went to get his haircut at Goodfellow's. This was his first time, and he was never informed it would need to be a one-on-one private appointment. Apron arrival, we were told to wait up in the "lounge" a cute bar style room with lots of neat antiques all covered in actual real dust and dirt. The kind that would make your grandma roll over in her grave. We were greeted by a seemingly pleasant woman who escorted us down the stairs, and proceeded to explain that due to their rules, and despite me wearing a mask, covering my nose and mouth, I would not be allowed to go in with the man I came with. I instead was told that I could return and sit alone, in the unkempt lounge, or sit outside (in the poring rain) on the porch. This is one star service if I have EVER seen it! I have the same germs as the man I live with, and should be allowed to sit in the same room, especially given that we were not given advance notice, what if I had been a child? I seriously love this place! I was looking for a new barber shop that was different from the old timey barbershops with old men. Don't get me wrong, those are fine too, but wanted a place with younger guys cutting hair that I could relate to and chat with who are in on the newer styles. I got a gift card to Goodfellow's as a gift after looking at some reviews and putting it on my Christmas list to give them a try. They did not disappoint. I randomly picked a barber (Ethan) and he's been my go to since. He gets my hair looking fresh and keeps it real. Super helpful if I am unsure of whether something will look good or not or how to get a cut and he's hooked me up. All the dudes at Goodfellow's seem super down to earth and easy to talk to and all have been incredibly nice when I have been in the shop. Love the decor and the feel of the shop with the couch/living room set up. Make sure you get yourself something to drink out of the ice box if you are there early for an appointment. I kinda feel like Goldilocks right now -- finding just the right place to get spiffed up. I went to salons for years because I liked the quiet, 1-on-1 experience, but I never loved the cuts. Then four years ago, I grew a beard and needed a barber to help me keep it tight (because I'm completely incapable of doing it myself). Even though I was initially super uncomfortable at a traditional barbershop, my boy Josh at Old Familiar took care of me and always kept my hair and beard on point. But then Goodfellow's came along... It's like the perfect mashup of a salon and a barbershop. It's the awesome cuts from the cool barbershops but packaged in an experience that's much more my style. The space is a rustic and beautiful parlor, with lots of rooms that give it a more intimate feel. On the first floor is a lobby that's comfortable to relax in, and there's a cooler where you can grab a drink. I mean, I CAN GET LACROIX AND A HAIRCUT. Then there are two rooms with two barber chairs in each. I love how private and special everything feels. As a bonus, on the third floor is a beautiful lounge where you can hang out while you wait. Definitely don't skip this -- there are some of the best views in the city! Enough about the space... let's talk about the cut. The owner, Dale, is so great. He's incredibly friendly and kind, and he patiently listened to me while I told him about all my crazy hair stories. I gave him a few of my preferences but then let him have free rein with the rest. My cut came out really nice -- I couldn't have been happier. Dale did an awesome job of teaching me how to fix my hair, and it was easy to do on my own. Dale has created something special at the Tonsorial Parlor. You're greeted as soon as you walk through the door and the place smells great. I was offered a drink from the fully stocked "ice box" and hung out until our wedding party arrived. Cory cut my hairs and had me looking like James Bond in less than 30min. This is when things got real. There's a third floor lounge that you can rent for special occasions that appears to be straight out of a magazine. It was perfect for what we needed and made us feel nice and cozy. There's a TV and billiards table. When I'm back in Columbus and need a cut, this will be the first place I head. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. For years I HATED getting my hair cut. As a trans guy, I had pretty rough experiences with people not really understanding the cut I wanted. Some friends and I were visiting Columbus last weekend from out of town and wandered in for a shave to kill some time. And, boy, am I glad we did! The shave was classic, old-school all the way--hot towels, sharp razor, hot lather, and most importantly, the hands of a very skilled barber. The experience is relaxing and rejuvenating, and the result are cheeks and chin as smooth as a baby's bottom! After my shave, I waited for my friends to finish their services in the 3rd floor lounge. After reading the Yelp reviews I was excited to get my first beard trim/cut. Browsed the company website, looked great. Looked through the hours of operation and saw by appointment only, which appeared to be on Sundays only as it was at the bottom of the list, just under Sunday. I went back read the Yelp reviews, the owners profile, and saw on Yelp that the walk ins were welcome. Arrived at 8am sharp to "beat the rush" , the place looked great, clean, nice reception area, friendly welcome. I was told walk ins were not welcome. There were no other customers at the time. I explained that I saw online that walk ins were welcomed, and instead of attempting to concern himself with improving business by finding out where I saw this, I was basically called a liar, and that "it does not say that online". Maybe I just wasn't one of the cool kids. After coming home, making sure I was not wrong I verified what I saw, I was correct. I do understand it's not possible to keep track of every website that post information about a business. But Yelp isn't some random site. I don't understand how a business that obviously is involved by creating a detailed owner profile, and benefits from the reviews and recommendations of others would basically tell me I didn't read what I read. I'm sure these guys are great for most people, just wasn't my experience. I did see on the companies website that you could book an an appointment. But for someone new to Columbus it is anxiety inducing to have to pick from a list of 8 random names to get a cut. Does this person work that day, this day, will I get there and whichever barber I randomly picked not be scheduled? I figured I would walk in, Yelp said I could, nope. Thanks for a really bad first experience, maybe that was their way of saying you aren't a beard type of guy, or not "our" beard type of guy. read more

Great haircut, pleasant environment, fun, vintage vibe. So I have been to a few barbers in town and this is hands down the best. You walk in and it's as if you walked into a old home , really cozy feel. Not a large operation but it doesn't need to be. They have a lounge on the 3rd floor which is on point , big sectional and a pool table in case there is a wait. Good Fellow' s Barber Shop is top-notch! The owner was very kind. He (Dale) is very hospitable and welcomed his patrons with a genuine smile. The barber shop itself was literally the nicest shop I've ever stepped foot in! Seeing how nice it was, I expected the prices to be outrageous, but I couldn't have been anymore wrong. As for my haircut, I walked in looking like a scraggly troll and left looking/feeling like a sexy beast hahaha I did receive a ton of compliments on it, and I really loved the fact that he used a straight razor at the end.
