I took my two boys to this barber shop. The owner, Craig, has renovated the shop. He cut the boy's hair well, gave me good tips for their hair types, and his prices were very reasonable. He was accommodating with scheduling us in last minute, which I appreciated a lot! I appreciated his kindness with the boys, and recommend him to anyone looking for a good barber for their boys! read more

Mike's is great. Another reviewer said cash only, he takes cards now but if you want to tip, tell him before he runs the card. Maybe it's a girl thing, I always tip. Why a girl at Mike's Barbershop? I take my toddler there to get his haircut. He's probably had 4-5 cuts at Mike's and while still slightly nervous about it, he stays still and talks about it before and after. Mike has a little chair with a steering wheel that my son LOVES and gives him a lollipop after. There are a bunch of toys in the front so my other kids can play for the ten minutes max it takes for the haircut. My husband also gets his hair cut here and likes it. I will say, this isn't a salon. It's a place where a guy named Mike chats with his buddies while he cuts hair for absurdly cheap prices. Seriously, he could charge double and I'd still think it was cheap. So no frills, but it's rarely crowded, he's good with my son, my husband likes him, we will probably go there until he dies. read more

I was getting my haircut regularly at Mike's barber shop. I came in today, Saturday, March 14, for a haircut, and I walked out after hearing Mike say something about communicable diseases and something about HIV, and John Holmes --- the gay porn star of the 1970's. Mike said to the customer, hat he had a joke for him. I did not hear the joke, but I did hear the barber (Mike) speak in a low voice so that other patrons wouldn't hear. What I did hear him say was that "he didn't make them up (the jokes) but passed them along". The customer, with his two sons present, said " I've no sympathy for them". Did this bigot mean like in Africa, or swathes of Asia, where it is a heterosexual disease. Or would that sympathy be conditional because they were of another race? Interestingly, It's not the first time I've heard old bigots in his shop running their mouths about "the younger generation" " Liberals want one world government", and I even heard one guy say that "he hated Muslims." ---that they better get used to having the bible (their religion) in government ---an outright threat to those of us who believe in the Separation of Church and State. In fact, I observed the young man is his barber chair react with dismay and disgust at that time when we all heard what they were saying. Mike did not say anything to those men then, at least while I was there, and so I wasn't shocked to witness what I did. He could have said that they were entitled to their opinions but to keep it out of his barber shop, but he didn't. I won't be going back. read more

As soon as I walked through the door I was denied service (assuming because I'm black). I walked into the shop around 10:30am on a Saturday morning, and after greeting each other the barber quickly said "I can't cut your hair", with no explanation as to why. I told him that I'm not from the Clintonville area and looking for a place to cut my hair. I have a job nearby and didn't have time to go to my usual barber in the New Albany area. He told me I should head a few blocks east to the Linden area (predominately black and somewhat unsafe neighborhood). What a shame that people still operate in this manner, especially in such a prominent community in Columbus. I'm a local professional and often do contract work in the Clintonville area for my businesses as well as for my 501c3 non-profit. I will share my experience with my cohorts and business partners in the area. *** Edit: for the record, I'm willing to be objective in my experience today - maybe his clippers broke the night before? But that's not likely because I heard and saw him using them. If the owner would like to respond and explain why any customer would be turned away at first glance, as I was. I would be glad to adjust my rating. And for those who may be skeptical of my appearance and demeanor, possibly being the reason why I was turned down - I am 32 and a black male, I am also a 6 figure professional in multiple art related professions, i work in project management for one of the largest most respected financial firms in the nation. My hair is short and easy to cut, and I dress (some would say) hipster like... but today I'm wearing designer boots, jeans and a Lacoste sport coat. Needless to say, I was very polite and professional in how I entered and approached the barber but still was turned away and told to go (not to a nearby salon or barber) but miles away to a black neighborhood. read more

My wife always goes with me To visit Mike. This man is a blessing to us. Is is a very kind and caring man. He is a colorful character and NEVER means to offend anyone. Before I began shaving my head, I got my hair cut at Mike's for years. The owner is the only barber. He is very friendly, fun to talk to, and just a good guy. He also gives the fastest haircuts I've ever seen. He does a good job, and for an excellent price. If you want a good haircut fast and cheap (and who doesn't?), give Mike's a try. And don't be concerned if there are 4 or 5 people in front of you. It won't take long. read more

Very nice place to get a haircut. The Owner Mike is the only one who works here and has been in business at this location for 40+ years he told me. Mike is a very nice guy and has reasonable prices. He's just an old-fashioned barber with old-fashioned prices. It only cost me $10 for a haircut and beard trim, you can't beat that. This was my first time coming here and most certainly won't be my last... read more

Mike's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

Mike's has been in this very same location since 1967 and from the moment you walk in you can tell. The interior doesn't remind you so much of a barber as your grandpa's garage but as you get to talking with Mike, it definitely fits. I'll say straight out that I'm never very happy with my hair coming out of any barber, so getting it short and manageable is really me end goal. What made me a repeat customer is a couple things. First off, my haircuts have never taken more than 8 minutes. Tops. Then he has this fantastic little shop vac that he uses to suction off loose hair before you go. None of that blow drier nonsense which just shoots the hair into the nooks and crannies of my ears and usually into my clothes. Lastly it's cheap. $7 for a men's haircut. Just be sure to let him know what his tip is before he rings up your credit card. He doesn't keep the transaction open for you to add one afterwards. read more

FNALLY! after 6 months of searching in Columbus for a competent barber, I've finally found one. Now, just for the record, I ask the same question to every barber I encounter- "can you do a flattop?" Most are honest enough to ruefully shake their heads. Some, like Georges, Mug&Brush, etc. lie and disfigure me. Others, like the Old Familiar, find a reason not to make the attempt. Mike said, "Yep" and proceeded to prove himself with alacrity, skill, and a great attitude. Oh, and 8 BUCKS!! Yeah, you heard me 8 Frickin Bucks!!! Mike has a new regular. read more

Mike's Barber Shop - Mike is amazing - Barbers Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

The most committed and reliable Barber I know. Been there for over 50 years. Only time this shop has been closed was due to Covid and his open heart surgery recently. Mike always there with a joke to keep you smiling . Thank you Mike for your commitment to the Barber industry. My husband Can't wait to see you after your recovery. read more

The best!!' We just moved from California... best barber and affordable .. will spread the news to others for sure

At first I was worried. Cheap price? Sometimes you get way you pay for. But it was open way early. So that was great. Also I tend to avoid having old men cut my hair because the couple times I did it, it was an archaic 1950s style cut. However this old man gave me a modern, professional haircut and I was very happy. read more

Wow. I need haircuts quite frequently. And as someone who was tired of all the bearded, bow tied, dapper hipsters who take 40 minutes to cut hair, Mike's is a breathe of fresh air. Tell him what you want, talk for 4 minutes, and you're out. Great service. Great prices. read more

He's been here 50+ years and he still only charges $7 per. Make sure to bring cash or you can't tip him. I brought a card and he said it doesn't work for tips. He's got some great stories of life and a very friendly and funny guy. He's super quick and effective. He's been doing it his whole life and said he's going to do it u til he croaks. read more

Started going to Mike about 2 years ago. I drive out of my way now to have Mike trim my hair and beard. I wont trust anyone else to touch my hair. A few times I have noticed a mistake on my hair and when I notice I stop back in and he fixes it. It has never been a big mistake just a hair or two longer but love giving him a hard time about it. There has been a few times i stopped in to just say hi due to not having the money on hand he still trimmed my hair and beard. He also helps people in the area who needs a hand up. He is a great guy to talk to and he does now take credit and debit cards. I have recommended Mike to several friends and even family. Mike is more than my barber he has become a friend. read more

I've been going to Mike for 21 years. Occasionally I have found myself short for time and have tried other barbers. No one compares to mike. His prices are great and jokes even better. And wait times are extremely short. I would give him a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Wow -- Mike is your barber! Was looking for a decent haircut at a decent price and got a great haircut at a great price. With absolutely zero input from me, Mike had turned my overgrown, mop of hair into a nicely sculpted head of hair. I wanted to leave him a tip but he had already closed out my credit transaction and was onto the next customer. So Mike, this review is my tip to you. Merry Christmas! Just a regular old barber shop. No appointments, no pretentious 20 year olds in tank tops, no frills. Just a great hair cut and a good sense of humor for a ridiculously low price. Make has been a barber for 49 years and it shows. Parking in the back. read more

First time haircut with Mike, haircut liked by all. Mike is proficient as well as efficient. It took me longer to get there than for Mike to cut my hair. It took him less than ten minutes! We had a great, (although short) :-) conversation. No Complaints!! I'm a new, loyal customer. read more

This barbershop is pretty much 100% of what I look for when getting my hair cut. No gimmicks, Mike won't talk your ear off unless you talk first. Just a good old fashioned barber shop. And the price is insanely low. My hair looks great, he understood what I wanted with just a few words. It's not super fancy but the quality of the experience overshadowed what this barbershop is lacking in comparison to the new chains popping up everywhere read more

Hi. Mike's BS has been a Clintonville establishment for 50 years now; it is a great, friendly old time barber shop catering to the local community. From the 195--60's hair cuts, to the newer styles of today--Mike provides great courteous service. Traditionally, Mike has provided hair-cuts for all clientele, and if he feels he cannot do justice to a requested cut or hair type, he provides the location to be able to obtain the requested service. Just a outgoing personality type barber that makes one feel valued and appreciated. Check the shop out--you will have pleasant extended services that goes along with old-time barber shoppes. A Clintonville institution. Mike's has been at this location for years. A little run-down inside but "Mike" is so friendly it doesn't matter. A quick buzz-cut at at fair price. You may, occasionally, see regulars hanging out in the shop...just to talk. I've heard some great stories. Cash only. read more

For the guy who just wants a straight forward look, this is the quickest and cheapest place you'll ever find. Good quality as well.

I got a great haircut from Mike. He really listened and did exactly what I wanted. I'm thinking I'll be back weekly.
