Once upon a time, there was a local small pizza chain in Duluth, called "Mr. Franks". Some years ago, Mr. Franks "West", at 21st Avenue West and Superior Street, was taken over by Lee, and dubbed "Lee's Pizza." Lee maintained the Mr. Frank's recipe, which is a good, if not great, substitute,if one has just had enough of Sammy's. Lee retired a couple of years ago, but the place was recently named to the top in a reader poll at the Duluth News Tribune. Although I will always love Sammy's, I'm partial to Lee's, because for six months, I lived in a little apartment above the place, and Lee and I became good friends. Worst. Place. Ever. Ordered two sub sandwiches at 8:12. Delivery guy showed up at 9:20. Over an hour wait for two sandwiches. The food was in ziploc baggies hahah. I thought this sandwich is gonna taste great because everything else is terrible so how can they be in business unless the food is bomb. Unfortunately our food was cold. So we took a bite to say we did then threw it away. Called the restaurant and they wanted to send us new sandwiches swearing it would only take 10 minutes. We passed and asked for a refund. The owner was yelling to the guy taking our order that we should just take the sandwiches but if we wanted we could have 10 dollars. I swear, you can't make this up. Very sorry to anyone who has ever ordered Lee's Pizza since October and got Ride and Die orders without intentionally getting it cause the former owner took our phone number and had it routed to Ride and Die in Superior when we bought Lee's pizza from him. I will get this straight for everyone on here. We my family bought this place back in October, and when we got it he has been using our business name and phone number for his Ride or Die in Superior stealing our revenue. What a con! We just yesterday got our original phone number back so it's never going to be routed anywhere else again. We have ordered pizza here many times. It's some of the best, under-rated, affordable pizza in Duluth. The kitchen itself is pretty dirty when I've been in. I try not to look around too closely when I'm in to pick up pizza. That said, the pizza has always been delicious. Great crust, great sauce, and quality ingredients. read more

The last time I went to Lee's I was ordering food for my family. In addition to getting two of the best pizzas in town, we also ordered a liter of soda to share. When we arrived to pick up the pizza, we realized we didn't have any glasses to drink our beverage. Lee's didn't have any to-go cups available, so they gave us a handful of their actual high-quality branded glasses as a "souvenir" free of charge. Sure, it's not the most polished joint, but they always go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need. And the food is incredible. read more

I wouldn't even rate this place "one-star". I ordered dinner at 8:39 and didn't receive my food until 10:38. When I called multiple times to check in on my food order, the employees were rude. The first time the employee said that the food just left. It was approximately at 10:00 when I still hadn't received the food and called again to check the status and they said it would be here any minute. It took roughly 15 minutes after that then it finally arrived. During this process the lady who took my order said it would only be a 30 minute wait. And secondly, I asked if I could get a refund or partial credit back due to the delay and they said nope we can't offer that. First delivery order from Lee's, asked for 6 p.m. delivery time and they came at 5 p.m., then when I opened the box the driver either dropped it or banged it against his car door or something on the way out of his vehicle. Haven't eating their pizza in years. Had it delivered and it was piping hot. Had a great deal for 2 pizza and bread sticks. For the money this is great pizza and you should check them out. They also have a pretty large delivery area. And the driver was super friendly. read more

Walked right in right out. The placed was small and filthy and empty, the lady at the register was going in between taking pizzas out the oven, yelling at someone in the back and yelling at a customer (the only customer) who had fallen asleep at his table. read more

This is the first time we ordered from Lee's Pizza. They were offering 2 pizzas and an order of cheesy bread for $25.00. We ordered 4 pizzas with 2 free cheesy breads. The delivery time was approximately 40 minutes which we felt was right for the distance. The pizzas we're all delicious! Great flavor. I decided to order pizza from this place because it was said that this place was #1 Voted Best Pizza in Duluth. The bad news, it's not! The reason why I said this is because when I got the pizza, it was cold and hard. Cheese had texture like rubber, and there was barely any toppings added. Just a layer of cold rubbery cheese. The price on this large pizza was about $15 plus tax. It took the pizza delivery guy about more than an hour to deliver my order. Worst part is, I had to go looking for him when his job was to come find me. I would not recommend this pizza place to anyone. This is the first and last time ordering from this pizza place. So it's 9:30pm on a Thursday night and I'm craving pizza but where to go? I'm not from the area so I googled pizza near me and Lee's popped up. Since they were open until midnight, off I went. Not much to the interior but I wasn't there for that; I was there pizza and, frankly, I was impressed. I ordered the Carr's special - Sausage, Pepperoni and extra cheese cut in squares. It was good, really good. Quality ingredients served with fast and friendly customer service. If I lived in the area, this would be my go to pizza place! They quote an hour for delivery and after an hour and a half all they can tel me is that the delivery person should have been here by now. We ordered a Carrs pizza and cheese bread, they send us just the pizza and they tell us that we never ordered that in the first place. I call and the person on the phone seems stressed out and probably overwhelmed by whatever is happening on their side. I was eventually told that they would send out cheese bread "for free". I have ordered pizza for delivery 7 times for our office. The pizza is great; we all agree about that. However, the 3 stars is for the worse than horrible customer service I've received over the phone, and the 2 hours we waited for our delivery. The website is warm and welcoming but that's where it ends. Maybe the in-person experience is better but I won't be finding out. I've given them the benefit of the doubt 6 times now. It's too bad.
