3rd time back again with same nail tech- the techs are personable and efficient- I know they are busy but they still make it about you- I had bright pink- this time went with red shellac- I was going to get the pedicure too but my toe nails still look great and I'll wait until I see more growth as they recommended too- so I just concentrated on my finger nails this time- My nails are growing well and I feel more confident now that I'm using shellac to help grow them- the tech noticed a difference too! I like that it's a comfortable space even when they are busy and I love their tv! Lol it helps time pass especially if you are waiting for a friend after your own service- I'll be back in like another 3 weeks for a mint green shade! read more

I wish I could leave less than a star. I am so disappointed. I wanted a full set of gel nails, short square shape with a light pink colour. I wish I'd have gone somewhere else. The lady doing my nails was extremely rude, brash, and curt with me. She made no effort to make conversation or exchange even in initial pleasantries. From the moment I sat down I felt uncomfortable. She proceeded with the manicure. It was a total hack job, and was blatant to me that she was rushing. She trimmed my nails, smacked some glue on some ill-fitting tips, and began painting. That's it. There were several issues I had to point out to her throughout my time there. These issues would have been ignored had I not spoken up. I feel this way because she was about to move into the next step right before I mentioned each issue (I wanted to trust the process and give her time to fix her own mistakes). To me, this indicates that she was attempting to ignore her mistakes by rushing through the steps of a full set. For one, she didn't put enough glue on the tips (which didn't even fit the shape of my nails to begin with). Because of this, each corner was lifting off. I pointed it out to her (as I know that this can cause premature lifting, and even bacteria or fungus to grow under there if water or debris get trapped beneath the lifted part). I was not rude, I just pointed to it and said "oh, I'm sorry but I think some of these are lifting off". She looked up at me and said "there's glue on it" and didn't fix the problem. She then began to apply builder gel, the clear sticky gel that forms the shape of the nails on top of the tips (which create the desired length). When the time came to put them in the light, she would just gesture quickly and passive aggressively towards the lamp. If my hand was resting on the towel when she needed it, she would grab it roughly and pull it towards herself. The nails themselves are misshapen and the polish is literally see-through in parts. Some of my nails are cut on an angle, and the gel polish is down to my cuticles, while the builder gel is not. Because the builder gel was not taken down close to the cuticle, I left the salon looking like I'd had a week's worth of growth since I got them done. While the nails are bad, they look very blocky and poorly shaped, the experience is so much worse. As she was doing the manicure, she was EXTREMELY rough with my hands, bending my fingers back towards my wrist/forearm and aggressively pushing back my cuticles. I do not have a low pain tolerance- it's quite average. But it was hurting me. At one point, she jabbed her fingernail into a hangnail I had on my thumb which was slowly beginning to heal. It bled. When it happened, I wasn't expecting it because I was looking at the music videos they put on, so I had to quickly stifle a yelp of pain. I did flinch and contract my hand to react, which I couldn't control. She made no apology- didn't even acknowledge it. I'm a huge fan of getting my nails done. It's a fun form of self care and a great confidence boost. I've been to probably over a hundred salons, all over Canada and the United States. I have had great experience and I've had horrible experiences. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst. This place offers cheap nails, which can be tempting for people trying to save their coin. But now I have to go get my nails redone somewhere else (normally I wouldn't, but these were done because I have an important event to go to). And I now have to spend maybe double the money I would have if I just went to a reputable salon in the first place. The beauty industry is a tough market right now. Halifax, like everywhere else- is flooded with salons offering nail services. If a business wants to stay open, they need to take pride in their work. They needs to give a shit about what their churning out and provide quality work that keeps people coming back. This is a place I will never go back. The disappointment was that before Christmas Day my partner's nails appeared to have almost two weeks growth because the tech did not sufficiently fill in her nails. I got a really poorly done pedicure here today with shellac. This is the typical Asian nail salon you see all over the place. I did see someone scrubbing out one of the tubs which is more than I can say about the hygiene of some of the other salons. What can I say. My pedicure was probably half hour tops. They have one of those massaging chairs that aren't particularly relaxing. She barely filed my feet down. Barely a massage. She did a good job with the color and my toes look fine but the bottle of my feet look the same as they did coming in. They also don't take credit, so I had to get a cash advance from an atm. The guy made sure to poke his head out the door to watch that I was actually going to the bank. Pretty disappointed. read more

My GF is a big fan of Lee nails on Quinpool and she always requests Kevin to do her nails. When I went to with her one Saturday I was very surprised to the whole progress just to get your nails done. For $30 a fill every almost 2 weeks and that is not the starting cost of $40-$50 to put a set on I was like WOW, I should be in this business. As well the whole cleaning thing find of turned me off due to sanitary reasons which I will not go there. But hey she loves the place and continues to go each and every time. I joined yelp to specifically comment on this sketchy place. If I could rate it zero or less I would. The place was dirty but I had a g/c so I thought I'll grin and bear it. I mistakenly told them about the g/c up front. I asked for a regular basic pedicure but they gave me $$shellac, saying they "misunderstood" me, and then wouldn't accept my g/c because it was almost a year old (gift certs no longer expire in Canada). Lee's Nails is just a small shop on Quinpool, distinguishable only by the ridiculous 80's era decals on the store front windows. My boyfriend and I have made it a habit to imitate the cartoon ladies, delicately flashing their newly polished digits, as we pass. I never thought I would ever have to frequent Lee's, I keep my nails fairly short, apply my own polish and I'm not a fan of fake nails (after a gel nail incident a few years back). The weekend before my class ring ceremony I was playing a game of pickup basketball with a few friends and broke two nails (I had grown them out specifically for this ceremony). I was having a major nail crisis, so I went to Lee's without an appointment, with little hope that I could even see someone, let alone fix my poor nails. I was pleasantly surprised ten minutes later when I was getting my hands massaged. An hour later I was on my way with two fake nails and fresh polish. The whole visit only cost me $50, which is a great price for such efficient and satisfactory service. Hot Hint: If you are a fan of manicures and pedicures but not a fan of the possibility of contracting bacterial infections (as can happen when salons don't properly sterilize their equipment) you can bring your own tools, or buy some for cheap at Lee's. read more

I went there once and I got great service. Second time was absolutely horrible. Don't bother making an appointment because they neverrrr actually start with you on the scheduled time so might as well walk in. They don't turn people away even if they don't have enough staff. Avoid! Poor customer service and a very rushed experience. My friend and I both got acrylic sets and they are roughly shaped and polished. Our fingers hurt from how harshly they buffed our nails. I went here and asked for uv gel nails and the lady pulled out a liquid and powder and tried telling me that it was uv gel But luckily i always do research before i get stuff done ! she was going to give me acrylic nails and charge me for uv gel. so i told her no i didn't want acrylic i wanted uv and she said that it was a powder uv gel which is a lie there is no such thing. So she says so you want bio gel which was actually just uv gel with a higher price so anyways. They filed my nails way to much pretty much to the skin and cut my pinky finger with the hand file. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY !!! they are scammers. I came to Lee's nails asking for an acrylic set. The manicurist applied my acrylics with small talk here and there, so far so good. The big let down was when he tried to claim he did a set of bio gel on me. I have had both types of nails and it was definitely acrylic, and I definitely said I wanted acrylic when I walked in. I explained this to him and his response was, "oh, okay" clearly caught in trying to over charge me for my treatment. I have yet to return and don't plan on it. I scheduled a french manicure appt but was pleasantly surprised to learn that they had a mani/pedi special on so it was upgraded to a that for the just a little bit of increase on price. The staff was very nice and clean and the nail care was a great experience. This place is conveniently located in Halifax so if you work downtown you should consider swinging by on your lunch break to pamper yourself. They offer a wide variety of services and their prices are what you'd expect for downtown. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to try next! read more

Not worth the trip...The worst quality, questionable sanitary and unfriendly manicure/ped experience I have had. Was convenient time early in the day...was parking out front so I dropped in...no customers in shop ...hmmm maybe I now know why.. Was out in well less than 30 mins...nails were cut very crooked ...did not even clean the nail filings....after finished....when requested it was with a very dirty towel she grabbed from the counter...My advise is to steer clear....cannot imagine they have been around for 10 plus years..... read more

This was actually the worst. After an initial battle where they kept trying to up-sell us---my friend and I just wanted a regular manicure---we finally decided on some colours. The man and woman were both pretty blunt and unfriendly, it didn't look like they sanitized anything, they even took out a gross used file to file our nails---but didn't even do that well since the ends of some of my nails were left jagged. I picked a navy blue and in the middle of the application he pulls out a bottle of oil or something (kerosene?) to dilute the polish because it was too old and thick... uhhhhhhh. When applying the polish he used his two giant thumb nails to scratch off his mistakes (gross) but that didn't stop him from leaving polish on my fingers anyway. When my friend said she didn't want him to cut her cuticles he argued with her then finally let it be but the rest of her manicure suffered as a result. To dry your nails they pull out a little standing fan that you have to hold your hands in front of. When we left, both of our manicures were ruined within 20 minutes. Never. Again. read more

Listen to this... I went in to get my nails done for my graduation, and all I wanted was a simple ombré. You would think that is a simple enough request... you are dead wrong. All was good until they started painting my nails. They did a horrible job, it looked like they needed a refill despite being just done. And worst even, the top cot was uneven and my nails ranged from matte to shiny. When I told them of my concerns, the guy working on my nails basically yelled at me. After his freak out, he attempted a hack job fix which I also commented about as they looked really bad. At this point, every worker in the salon is yelling, staring at me, and going off in a language I do not understand. Another customer started commenting that I was being "ridiculous", and the guy replied to her that I did not know what I was talking about or what I wanted. I am about to cry, as I felt like I was being attacked for being dissatisfied with a poor service. One nail tech finally came and redid the colour from scratch. It still looked bad, but it was an improvement and I was genuinely scared at this point to voice my dissatisfaction. They made me pay full price and told me I should "wash my hands at home" as I was getting ready to leave. Worst. Experience. Of. My. Life. - absolutely do not recommend to anyone. read more

I'm in the service industry so I know about customer service . I've had my nails done at multiple places and this place has me TRUMATIZED !! To the point I actually called the association . I have been going to the same girl forever and she was out of town , so by friends I was recommended to Lee's. So let's start with when the older guy , instead of soaking my nails off , RIPPED them off to the point they were breaking in my he middle of my nail bed , I was fighting tears , and even when I told him he didn't stop ... just said it was fine . THEN barely buffed the nail and just started to put the acrylic over top of my split nails instead of adding tips knowing they were going to break off ( and now my hands are so sore I can barely do my clients hair ) not to mention within 4 days they were lifting because he painted up onto the skin so they are now ripping and getting caught in my clients hair . Went in Saturday , they told me to come back Monday ( today ) so i did even though I was TERRIFIED at the thought of them touching my hands again and I was NEVER ONCE acknowledged when I walked in , waited for an hour .. no one said a word , so I left , 70 dollars poorer , sore hands and just so mad at the service . read more

If I could leave zero stars for this ' salon ' I totally would. Yelp unfortunately does not allow this. Went to get a simple shellac manicure. First attempt, there were bubbles in the polish, and the colour was not consistent. So they then added another coat. Still not satisfied as this now left steaks and bubbles in the polish. Also it was not shiny at all. I normally go to princess nails in CP or Jadore in Bedford but my gf and I were on that side of town and decided to give it a try. MISTAKE. My nails are horrible. They look like a small child tried to paint them. They were closing so I told the manager how I felt and showed him my nails. He offered to redo them. I told him I'm sorry but I'm not confident in your abilities. He yelled at me and told me he would only charge me for a manicure with French tip. Ended up being 26 dollars. I will never return. Also the bathroom is filthy. Very concerned about the hygiene. They also did a shoddy job on my friends acrylic nails. Do not give them your money. Had I looked them up before we went in I would have seen their awful ratings. Horrible customer service horrible service period. read more

I only visited this salon once. I think the people who work there are nice but the lady who did my nails made a noticeable line of demarcation in my natural nail from overusing the electric file. She also wanted to cut my acrylic nails down with a toenail clipper. I'm a nail tech and esthetician and I know this is not proper practice. To shorten them she should use the electric file and I told her so at the time. Sanitary precautions were not in proper practice either. I would rather pay more for my nails and have properly cleaned instruments used than pay half the price and risk infection or nail disease. read more
