We arrived a little earlier than our schedule appointment time but Mustapha welcomes us and took us in early. There were other barbers working away along with the owner Mrs. Belinda. The inside of the shop is clean and well maintained. There was a young man (it happened to be his first day of work- I think he was high school age) working hard and sweeping all hair up around the barbers chairs. Mrs. Belinda the owner was cutting a little boy's hair, first haircut, I think the child was a little over a year old. Her manner was so kind and sweet, the little boy didn't cry and his haircut went well! We showed photos to Mustapha of what Ian was looking for in a haircut. I think my son was going for a marine fighter pilot haircut. The haircut by Moos was amazing- he did a great job, the attention to detail was on point. Moos aka Mustapha is kind and welcoming, plus he has great talent. My husband, son and I were very happy with the outcome of the haircut. We always book Moos via Booksy. It's in a small shopping center near a Real Estate Office and some other small businesses. The inside is clean and organized. It's not the type of salon that offers champagne. It's just a regular non-fancy no frills type of salon. There are two women that are hair stylists here - Phyllis and Nancy. Jenny was the original owner of the salon probably 35 years ago and is no longer the owner or affiliated with the business. The current owner has owned this business for nearly 30 years. About 5 years ago I got a horrible hair color job and wanted to go back to my natural blue black hair. I turned to Yelp and found Jenny's Beauty Salon. Nancy was really nice on the phone and she told me that she had time to color my hair. Nancy did an amazing job and colored my hair back to it's beautiful blue black color and used protein filler to keep my hair healthy. Just today, I was in desperate need of a trim. I called the salon and Nancy wasn't available. Phyllis said she had time and was able to shampoo, cut, thin out my super thick hair and blow dry my hair. It looked amazing. I'm very happy with my new trim. Customer service on both occasions have been positive. Both Phyllis and Nancy are professional, kind and good at their profession. To address the anyone who might be concerned - both ladies are fluent in English. There is a Yelp review on this business listing clearly stating that these ladies do not speak English which is a complete falsehood. Also, when did it become a crime to speak another language other than English in America? Don't believe the lies in other Yelp reviews. Bottom line both Phyllis and Nancy are awesome. My dentist whose dental practice is located in the Rose Garden area of San Jose has been going to Nancy for over 20 years. These two ladies have a strong client base. They accept cash or credit cards but tips must be in cash. I'm definitely coming back to Phyllis for my haircuts from now on. I came out of there fully relaxed and fully bald, with a beard that was more "competent adult man" and less "lived in the forest alone for a decade". You remember how your grandfather had a Study? A special room just for him and your dad? It was quiet, smelled nice, and was very definitely a place kids were not allowed to go? Well this is the barbershop that caters to that style. It's small. It's quiet and understated. The waiting chairs are comfortable leather, not special plastic backwards-leg things that the latest yoga magazines rave about. They won't give you a complimentary boba tea or latte, they WILL offer you a cold beer or water, or a slug of good tequila or whiskey. They don't play pop music or the next great hit. They don't play any music at all. Just the snip of scissors, the buzz of clippers, and quiet conversation. It's supremely relaxing. The one thing it needed to be perfection itself is a friendly shop dog to greet customers and get head scritches while your barber does his exemplary work (and it is exemplary), but even without that, this is THE place to get your hair and beard taken care of. This is a BARBER shop, not a stylist parlor. I highly recommend it. Things to note: I was a walk-in, but was lucky enough to come in when there was an open spot. If you pass it often, no problem, but if you're making a special trip, get an appointment. They don't take credit, only cash or payment app (Zelle, etc.). Ask them to get a shop dog when you go in!
