Beautiful campground!…read more We were driving east on Route 89A towards Marble Canyon and we were all tired and hungry. The sign for the campground was a welcome sight even though we were not thinking about camping there. We were looking for a comfortable picnic ground were we could have a festive lunch, a little nap and a couple of hours of rest before getting back on the road. So we turned right onto AZ-67 a little passed the campground entrance, and a few hundred yards, left onto the entrance of the no fee picnic area. The place is beautiful and well maintained. The picnic tables are nicely shaded by big trees and the public restrooms are clean. After filling our bellies we went for a walk exploring the surrounding, and I can tell you that the campground itself is just as well-kept and maintained. Right in the corner of Route 89A and AZ-67 there is the Jacob Lake Inn and Store. So if you want to stick around for the night, but are not big on camping check this place out, it is a good alternative to roughing it out under the trees! And the place is only 45 mile from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!

First, it took a while to reach the campground from the main highway. Near the beach area, it can be very sandy. If you have a rental car, be careful to find a path with flattened sand unless you're driving a 4x4 jeep. Second, the view of Lone Rock was not impressive due to the lack of water. It used to be possible to kayak around Lone Rock (when it was surrounded by 20 to 50 feet of water). Unfortunately, without the lake water, the view of Lone Rock is meh (comparing the 2023 photos with snapshots from 2019 or 2021). The low water levels are the visible effect of climate change and diminished snowmelt from the mountains feeding into the Colorado River. I did not stay at the campground, so cannot speak to that experience. But if you're looking for a view of Lake Powell - I would drive over to the Wahweep Marina on the AZ side of the state border and take a sunset photo from the boat launch area there.

Camped here with a friend in early September 2020 and it blew our expectations out of the water…read more We were nervous about the first-come-first-serve camping policy and not being able to make a reservation, but there was plenty of room even when we arrived on a Saturday evening on a holiday weekend. We pulled up about an hour before sundown, found a place to park and set up our tent, and enjoyed the beach. There was a stunning sunset and sunrise. Everyone we met was very kind and helpful. The other campers answered questions and helped us find our way around. It seemed like most of them camp here regularly, which gave it a nice community feel. The only downside we found was that it was a little loud in the evening, especially from the ATV's zooming around. Since it was really dark at night, we were even afraid they'd accidentally run over us in our tent. The next morning there was a long line to use the public bathrooms and showers, which are located fairly far from the camping ground, so be sure to account for this if needed. Beware if you have a vehicle that's low to the ground due to the sandy roads. We drove a sedan slowly and didn't have any trouble. The only mistake we made was accidentally driving over a few big rocks at our camp spot, so be on the lookout for those off the "road" I would return and camp here again in a heartbeat.

When you check in you get a "tour" of the lobby, outdoor fire pits, free smores, restaurant, and how to maneuver in your tent (how to work shower, lights, wood burning stove). There is no electricity but they provide you with battery pack to charge phone in both main tent and kids tent. The beds are very comfortable (even in kids tent) and plenty warm. Games and trekking poles to borrow. 24 hour coffee/tea. You park your car in parking lot and they meet you there with golf cart and take you and luggage to tent.

You order at the counter, they bring it to your table which can be inside or outside. At night they have live music, free s'mores by the different campfires, free games and lots of seating. Our deluxe tent was amazing! We had panoramic views of the mountains and off to the distance Lake Powell. Our tent had a small wood burning stove, a comfy king size bed, a couple chairs, and a full bathroom with flushable toilets, warm water shower and sink. They provide a few towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, tp, etc, and a couple lanterns and mini fans. There's two battery packs in the tent to charge your phones or electronics should you need them. Under Canvas was warm, accommodating, clean and offered tips and advice on local adventures, hooking you up with local businesses should you want. They also give recommendations on local hikes or landmarks to check out. Lake Powell is about a 15 minute drive from the campsite, as well as Page, AZ with spectacular Horseshoe Bend. There's a lot of hiking trails within a few minutes drive. We stayed two nights and I was bummed to leave! We decided later this summer to stay at either the Glacier or Smoky Mountains location. Definitely worth it!

Stayed a few nights here in August on both ends of a rafting/camping trip through the Grand Canyon…read more I had an excellent stay both times - very comfortable and clean rooms, wonderfully warm staff, decent prices, and an incredible location inside the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument! It's a bit of a remote location (which I loved) but the lodge has everything you could possibly need - a really great on-site restaurant, general store, gas station, and they even do their own guided fishing trips and kayak rentals complete with backhaul drop offs to a launch point of your choice. And even though you're a bit of a captive audience, their prices are surprisingly pretty reasonable - even for the gas! The lodge is currently split into two sections - one has been recently renovated and one hasn't. I stayed in a double queen room in the renovated section and a single king room in the non-renovated section. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and very cozy - but I definitely prefer the renovated rooms - simply because they have a superior bathroom layout/shower - The shower in the non-renovated room was very rudimentary- almost like one you'd find in an RV - and there was very little counterspace. And the TVs include an option to log into your streaming apps to watch your fave shows. But the beds were both very comfortable in both rooms - the mattresses felt very supportive but not overly hard - seemed like temperpedic quality. The decor in the renovated rooms is very desert-cowboy-chic - but the non-renovated room was super retro - more like a 70s spaghetti western style lol. There are refrigerators and Keurig coffee makers in all the rooms - renovated and non-renovated alike. All the rooms have outside patio seating but it's not private. I was next to the restaurant in the non-renovated room and was worried it might be too loud but I didn't hear a thing - it was peaceful and quiet! Speaking of the restaurant- the food is absolutely fantastic! I ate two dinners here and a breakfast and loved it all. They also have a unique dessert - avocado pie! Highly recommend! Everything here is family owned and all the staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and fully intend to return bc there's SO much to explore in the area - especially if you love the desert outdoors!

By far the best aspect of the lodge was the guide we hired to help us fish Lees Ferry. His name was Shane and he was incredibly experienced. It was my first time fly fishing and he taught me to cast, mend, and set the hook. We caught more fish before noon than I did on my last fishing trip. Shane knew every spot to visit to get the trout biting. The food at the lodge was also incredible. I ate one of the best patty melts I've had and the breakfast burritos hit the spot before a fishing trip. I also can't give the sweet potato fries high enough praise. They had the perfect amount of crunch and salt I look for in a fry with that same sweet potato taste. If you stop in; try the avocado pie! The lodge is absolutely worth a visit. Stay a night, try out the restaurant, try to book Shane if you can, and fish until your arm gets tired!

It was a wonderful tour…read more Not as lengthy as I thought, but the young tour guide was very calm and patient. A lot of beauty to admire at the canyon, and really nice stories to be heard and shared. The tour guide did state multiple times that we can take our time. He also created a demo micro slot canyon before our eyes. All the drivers were very nice. Here are some things to note though: -The check in process was confusing the day we went. We kept getting asked if we checked in. Initially we weren't greeted by anyone. Then a very pretty lady helped get us started with signing a paper waiver. -In my opinion, we actually had a large group, a bit over 20 people if I recall correctly. However, it wasn't overwhelming. -We separated into taking a wagon and small bus to the slot canyon. There were two different groups. Getting back to the destination spot was split into a bus, an older suburban, and a UTV. Not sure if the wagon ever came back. -We were the last tour group of the day. -They have portable potties near parking grounds, but is about a 8-20 min transportation dependent on type of vehicle and how fast you are from the slot canyon. -Definitely don't want someone who has mobility issues or have discomfort while walking coming to this trip! -No videos
