While visiting the new Lakewood Ranch model homes in Lakehouse Cove, we previewed the new Lee Wetherington models. This visit confirmed why we are still so pleased living in his model home in Edgewater Pointe after 18 years. We found that Lee's homes have ageless design and décor features that cannot be matched. There is innovation and design features in every room. Lee was the first builder in Sarasota to incorporate disappearing family room doors (doors that slide out of view at the corner). With the doors hidden, we are in effect sitting by the pool while in our family room. We entertain often and are always overwhelmed by the compliments from our guest who appreciate the distinct features that our Lee Wetheringon home has verses theirs. With only minor updates, our home remains new in every respect thanks to the progressive design features that were incorporated. We are completely satisfied with our home after 18 years. If we decide to move to a new home, we will again choose Lee Wetherington as our designer and builder. His new models in Lakehouse Cove and the Islands on Manatee River are a real temptation. Wetherington Homes was recommended to my wife and I by some close friends who had built with them a little over two years ago. We liked their home and decided to go with Wetherington when we decided to have our own home built. We were not disappointed! Having gone through the construction process three prior times, twice in Pennsylvania and once here in Florida (the latter, with a different builder), I must say that Wetherington was the best we had experienced by a large measure. The design studio, choices, and personnel were first rate. Our lead builder Chris Stauffer and head of the pool construction section, Todd Hubbard, were the highlight of the building process. Chris was not only easily accessible throughout, but responsive to any questions, requests or concerns. These were acted on quickly and to our satisfaction. He also was great at providing guidance through the process. Todd was also very accessible and provided excellent guidance with pool design and oversight. Punch list items near moving time were relatively few and also quickly addressed. We would highly recommend building with Lee Wetherington. Life is not perfect, therefore nothing that happens in life is perfect, but I will say that my experience with Lee Wetherington Homes was as close as one can get to perfection. I had researched several new home builders before choosing Lee Wetherington Homes as my builder. The reason I chose LWH was that no other company could match their quality and value. I felt they were honest and upfront on every aspect and at the end of the day, the price we agreed on in the beginning was the price at the end. The quality of Lee Wetherington Homes is outstanding. You know when you have walked into one of their homes. In the building process they use, just to name a few features, a stem wall foundation, poured concrete tie beams, and Tailored Foam insulation in the concrete block. Communication, in the building experience, is key and there was no lack of it while building my home. Our experience with Lee Wetherington Homes has sadly been very disappointing. What should have been the construction of our dream home turned into an overwhelming nightmare. Throughout the building process, we faced numerous issues with the quality of workmanship. We noticed sloppy work from almost every subcontractor involved, including tile, grout, painters, carpentry, window and door installation, driveway pavers, and lanai/pool/cage construction. To make matters worse, there was a clear lack of oversight and supervision from our superintendent during the building phase. This negligence has led to ongoing construction and repairs, even after we moved in. As we approach the end of our 2-year warranty, we are still discovering serious issues in our home, which is why we decided to write this review. Based on our experience, we believe Lee Wetherington Homes consistently overpromises and underdelivers. We strongly urge future homebuyers to be cautious and thoroughly research their options before choosing this "custom" builder. We just moved in to our brand new Lee Wetherington Home and we are so happy how everything turned out. I can't say enough about how our expectations were exceeded in every way and how well we were treated by all the staff at LWH. Dennis took great care in helping us select the right lot and floorplan that met our needs. Then Steve, their in house architect, made some great suggestions on customizing the plan to meet our wants. Amy, in the design center, guided us in selecting the finishes to make this the home of our dreams! And Sara, our project manager, did an awesome job constructing our home and always took the time to answer our questions regardless of how silly they were. Our home turned out perfect! I also want to mention that during the construction we spoke to some of Lee Wetherington's subcontractors who told us that our Lee did things the right way. They required certain things that go in the concrete floor and block walls that other builders didn't do because it costs more. After hearing that, we felt really good about our decision to build with Lee. read more

Wetherington built our custom, one-off design in beautiful Venice. Being snowbirds, my wife and I were not available during the entire construction process. Being a detail-oriented person in my past career, I was nervous about not being on the job-site every day. I have to admit that the home building process was painless and the end result was a beautiful home with the features we wanted in a great location. We had a couple rain delays at the foundation stage, which I guess that can be expected in sunny Florida, but once the rain took a break and the construction started, everything went smoothly. The home designer did a great job of putting our wishes on paper and Amy, the interior designer, was great. Our supervisor, Jan, kept us advised throughout our time north and kept my mind at ease. If we decide to move to a larger home, the only builder we would use in the Lakewood Ranch area is Lee Wetherington Homes. I currently live in a Lee Wetherington Home, the home is 12+ years old and still looks like new. The homes in my community, Willowbend, all still look wonderful and are all more than 12 years old. The quality of workmanship and materials is a testament to how well these homes were built. We looked at other homes that are similar age and none of them look this lovely. In my opinion, the way to truly judge a builder is to look at how well their homes wear after 10 years.
