A group of friends and I were on our way to a campsite last July when my car's engine blew out. We were stuck in an area 6 hours from home that didn't have immediate towing service. It was a long and drawn out process that took 4-5 hours of coordination, but my insurance eventually hooked me up with a towing company (shout-out to Yolie's Towing!), who then hooked me up with an even more local towing company, Lee Vining AAA Towing. The plan, carefully outlined and crafted through communication between Yolie's and Lee Vining Towing, was to bring my car to Lee Vining and spend the night since it was already getting late. The next day, LV Towing would take my car to the nearest Kia dealer that was en route home. When Damon arrived with that tow truck, it was like the pearly gates were opening right before my very eyes. I might have teared up. He secured my car onto the tow bed pretty much blindfolded with one finger and drove us into Lee Vining to spend the night. The camping trip turned out to be a nice little excursion into Mono Lake and exploring the small town's food scene (as recommended by Damon). The burger joint was on POINT. The next day, Eric was to drive us to a Kia dealer in Stockton. He only had one seat available in the tow truck, so he goes, "You guys just wanna ride in the car while it's on the bed?". Say. Less. We hop in. I'm thinking this is the coolest thing in the world - I'm getting a ride in my car on another car! It's like car inception. And the best part... Eric goes through Yosemite. We get to pass through this beautiful national park, like it's one of those double-deck tour buse experiences in LA or SF. We make it safely to Stockton for my car to get worked on. I sign some forms, and off goes Eric into the sunset. Like a hero. Thanks to these guys, an amazing memory in my life was formed that I can look back on with great fondness. Amazing experience! My car's alternator went out while on vacation in June Lake. Called everyone in mammoth and Bishop and everyone was 2 weeks out before they can see me. One of the shops in Bishop recommended Lee Vining towing. I called and spoke with Shelly, he was very nice and said he son was coming back from Mammoth and can swing by our campsite. Cory came to look at my car and took with him. Cory couldn't guarantee when it was done but reassured me that they would do their best. My car was done the next day and I was able to get home safe. My son's car was tow here. The car was loaded with valuable snowboards, cameras and clothing. I feared it was was going to be gone when we went two days later to pick it up. I encounter the nicest, most honesty, helpful staff, that had taken great care to insurance the safety of his car and belongings. The overnight storage fee was fair and reasonable. My friend was the mom who got stuck in some powdery silt 0.4 miles from a paved road near mono lake in her jeep with 3 kids in the car. She called auto club who sent these guys. Two of them came in a low profile truck and said they didn't want to risk getting the tow truck stuck, so they walked out to her jeep to see if they could dig the jeep out of the silt to get her moving again. The two guys walked out, took a look, declared it too hard a job to dig by hand and then told her that her ONLY option was a $750 tractor tow. With no alternatives, she reluctantly agreed to the total charges of $400 + $750 to get the half mile back to pavement. I then called around and found some off road angels who went out with two people (one man, one woman, two shovels) who dug the sand away and got my friend and her jeep in under an hour. The next morning we found out the owner of this company charged her $400 for the two guys who came out to look and then wouldn't even try to help recover the vehicle. I called the owner myself and explained how the two strangers came out and dug her jeep out in 45 minutes without charging a penny, so why did this owner feel justified in charging her $400 for a recovery they never did? The owner listened to me and offered to reverse the charges. He sounded pretty mad on the phone. I wasn't asking for a full refund on my friend's behalf, but I thought maybe just the charge for the hour they actually spent driving to her and not recovering her would be more fair than $400, but he said it was fine and he would just reverse the whole $400. I thanked him on her behalf, he said he was glad she got recovered and the kids were safe. But then? A week went by and then another week and she NEVER GOT A REFUND! So now the entire off-road community is angry and will be letting this owner know. Honor your word! Refund the single mom you didn't help! read more

this is with regard to a tow the company attempted, failed, then charged the stuck person $400 for nothing accomplished and walked away, leaving a mother and daughter stranded out in the desert at night in their jeep. The vehicle was recovered a bit later by good Samaritans. Per this continuing saga on FB, complete with pictures & statements by the Samaritans, the tow company owner offered a refund for the failed tow. But at the time of my writing this Yelp, it has not materialized. From what I read of these events, it would seem to be judicious to look for another tow company. As an addendum, I owned and operated a strictly off road tow company. I NEVER let anybody stranded & I didn't charge for work I couldn't do. People aren't hiring you for someone to talk to. They're paying to be recovered.PERIOD! read more

I can't thank these guys enough! Stranded down in mammoth lakes for 2 days trying to get a tow to go 10miles into town. We called everywhere until we came across Frosty 4wheeler. They gave us Lee Vining Towing's number. Beyond responsive, picked us up in less than an hour. Towed the truck to a local shop & then proceeded to give us an extra lift to our hotel we were lucky enough to book for the night. Broke down and needed to get home. It was Mother's Day and we weren't going anywhere. A nice gentleman picked us up and drove us to town so we could get a room and a bite to eat. On Monday, Cory showed up and he was super. He needed up driving us home at over 200 miles. Very pleasant and professional. Truck was comfortable considering the distance we had to ride. Bad customer service. Lee Vining AAA Towing had to tow my car that I left in a Yosemite parking lot (where a ranger had told me to park) during my 3 week backpacking trip, and they left it unlocked after towing. There was no note, so I'm unsure how long my car sat in the parking lot unlocked. Luckily nothing was taken. I called complain about the unlocked car, and the response was essentially that I shouldn't have parked where I did (after I left on the trip, construction began near where I parked and the car had to be towed - no fault of my own). I can't thank the team at Lee Vining Towing enough for how they helped me in trouble. My partner and I were driving back from a trip to Lake Tahoe, and while passing through Lee Vining, someone pulled out in front of us and totaled my car. No one was hurt, but I was terribly shocked. Within 10 minutes of the crash, Cory from LV Towing was by our side. He quickly towed our car and talked us through the whole process of calling insurance and finding a way home. Cory was even kind enough to drive us to Mammoth Lakes so we could rent a hotel room for the night and make our way back home the next day. My family and I took a trip to Lake Tahoe this Thanksgiving and we needed to put chains on our car for the way back. We stopped here to ask if someone would help put them on and sure enough the young gentlemen were extremely helpful.! I am actually writing this review while we are still on the road and don't want to forget. They were both very helpful and David, in specific was respectful and very helpful towards us. We actually went back because a small part of our chain was loose and he did not hesitate to help us a second time. During our trip to Bodie and Mammoth Lake we had a flat tire. The next city was Lee Vining. We put or "donut" spare on the car and quickly looked up the nearest tire repair in Lee Vining. It was Lee Vining AAA Auto repair. I called and spoke with Enrique. He gave me directions. We were in and out less than 15 minutes. The guys were super friendly and nice. HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND NO RESPECT FOR OUR SAFETY OR WELL BEING! I want to warn you now!!! If you have car problems in Yosemite and your life depends on help, don't let AAA and route you with help from this company!! In our case our transmission went out and we were helpless from roughly 3pm on. This company finally sent "Gary" for us at 9pm, this guy left us stranded at the West Gate of the park, alone, no cell service, in the rain without any other help on the way at 10pm at night. The excuse that Gary gave us was that the park rangers wouldn't let him back in the West gate to the park if he left the park so he wouldn't take us to Groveland. He stopped on the way to the gate so we could try to get some cell service so he could call his boss and we called AAA to try to arrange for another tow from West gate to Groveland. He got through and his boss told him not to take us any further and that he shouldn't have even helped us out in the first place and never should have put our truck on his truck. Basically abandoning the companies mission of helping those in need of help on the road with vehicle problems. Well when he dropped us off at the West gate (as far as he would take us) I ran to the gate drive through pay windows and they were all no longer manned and straight open to all traffic for free, no fees, no attendants/rangers, nothing at all stopping him from coming back in. So he was full of garbage just didn't want to drive us to Groveland, even though we have the 200 miles towing from AAA and he only took us about 20 up to this point. As he was finishing dropping our vehicle from his tow truck a Park Ranger drove up to check on us (they knew we were broke down in the middle of the park so came to check on us) I talked with her and explained what the driver told us and she said he was making that up (nice way of putting it, I think the words were more like full of $h!t). The rangers give them complete right of way to help out people broken down doesn't matter the entry/re-entry and that this was just his and his companies way of making up their own rules to get out of making un-wanted tows even though contractually they are supposed to help you till your at the nearest mechanics or your hotel/residence (basically somewhere safe). He left as soon as he could without a second thought, we had even offered to give him $100-$150 to take us all the way there but turned us down as desperate as we were, no food, no jackets, no cell phone service. Luckily the nice ranger came back and let us use a landline phone to try and get another Tow, the driver from Groveland came out and helped us out and couldn't believe the garbage Lee Vining towing fed us and left us stranded. read more

My '96 Explorer died while still in Tuolomne Meadows, Yosm. 3 different people tried to give us a jump but the conclusion was that it might be the fuel pump. AAA sent Lee Vining Towing. It took 2 hrs for Cory to show up but he was friendly, gracious & checked out the car to make sure it definitely needed towing. He towed us to Lee Vining and advised us not to take it to Mammoth which is very expensive, but instead take it to Gardnerville, NV, where they most like would have the parts and get it done in a timely manner. Unfortunately, he had 2 more calls so could not take us that day. We overnighted in LV, then the next morning, we got towed to Gardnerville. In the meantime, I had checked around and had chosen a auto repair service. The 1.5+ drive was great; Cory knew everything about the area so it was a very interesting ride. It is obvious he is a people person and loves his job. Luckily I had AAA Plus so it covered the 100 miles of towing. I feel so helpless when stranded in the middle of nowhere and Cory was a saving grace. read more
