But while scrolling through Instagram and searching hashtags, I came across Magazine Nails and was immediately impressed by their work! I DM'd them with photos of the nail design I wanted and asked if anyone could do it. Not only did they reply quickly, but they confirmed they could do the design and booked my appointment right then and there. The entire interaction felt warm, professional, and welcoming, it really gave me a good feeling about choosing them. When I showed up for my appointment, the front desk greeted me kindly and told me exactly where to sit. Tommie was my nail tech, and when he asked me which of the two reference photos I wanted, I was so impressed...it showed he had really paid attention to our DM conversation. That kind of customer service means a lot! The nails turned out so freaking cute, I absolutely loved them! He nailed the design perfectly. What stood out even more was how friendly the entire staff was. Two other women who worked there stopped by just to compliment my nails. After moving to New Orleans I have been trying to find someone who does Russian manicures…read more I have had several appointments with nail techs who seem to believe if they file around the bottom of your finger enough times they're doing it right. They are not. It got so bad that I took my question to Reddit, which is how I ended up booking at this place, which sadly was no different. When I sat down (twenty minutes late) I was informed by the nail tech that she does Russian manicures, but doesn't cut with a scissor. Immediate red flag but I had already paid in full and needed the disaster set I walked in with removed. This person then proceeded to not follow any of the steps of a Russian manicure. No orangewood stick. No flame bit to lift the dead skin. A jagged cut around the cuticle with oil added to hide it. Abrasions where my live skin was filed with the ball bit. I was then informed that I would need to pay an additional $60 for the hard gel application. To be fair, it was applied nicely and the shaping was great. It just wasn't a Russian manicure. If it had been billed as a hard gel manicure and left at that it would have been fine. The gaslighting at the end - I was told I should book hard gel fills moving forward because I don't "need" a Russian manicure - was the icing atop a very shitty cake. If you don't know what you're looking for, this is the place for you. The vibe and aesthetic of the salon is nice. If you're looking for an actual Russian manicure, keep looking.

They sell clothes, jewelry and other things so if you did have to wait a while, you have something to keep your attention. They also played great 90s R&B that day, making me feel right at home. My appointment began promptly and my nail designer Michelle educated me on the benefits of wearing Après gel over my nails to help them grow. I really appreciated that because my nails have been on the struggle bus. I also enjoyed watching the process because it was different from the typical acrylic application. It took about 1.75 hours for her to finish but I was very happy with the results. I'll definitely be going back.

She made no effort to keep the soap out of my ears which was super unpleasant. The materials they used seemed like cheap, disposable ones. It's truthfully just a very awkward and unnecessary amount of time to have wet hair. Not to mention the blow dry at the end was absolutely horrible. If a blow dry is part of the experience then at least one person should be trained how to properly blow dry hair. Once I entered the building my 1st service was waiting on me. No paperwork was completed as a 1st time customer and was asked by the person doing the massage what areas I needed done. She was very pleasant and could tell I was FURIOUS with the process. She kept apologizing. THE MASSAGE WAS AMAZING!!!! I would recommend her but I am not toooooo fond of the place. Then the FACIAL!!' Absolutely horrible. I sat in a chair where the lady explained what she would be using. No time was my skin discussed. When it was over no discussion of my skin and was. Told we will see you up front. Massage 1 hour and facial 30 minutes. Well my grandmother had a manicure. PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY SHE WAS STILL DRYING AFTER 1.5hrs. After I paid and added $22.00 tip the cashier (same person who did my facial) says before I can even leave she left $22.00. WOW!!! Are you serious? No one even offered the products in the lobby for sale. After my facial my face was soooo dry it was ridiculous. I was not even asked what type of skin do I have. No type of data sheet done. After leaving there are a group of people sitting on a stump cussing, and arguing in the corridor patio area I was like I just spent $200.00 for this. I will never again. I would not even recommend this place to anyone
