However, his actual availability never matched the schedule he gave me. After several failed attempts to set up a cut, I decided it was time to move on. I got online and searched for "best barber shops in Queens." Right at the top of the search was Prestige Barbershop here in Lefferts. Honestly, I've walked past this place many times before without stopping. I had the impression that barbershops in Kew Gardens don't always deliver the best fades. Naturally, I assumed this one might be the same and planned to head to Jamaica for a fade instead. But these guys have done something smart. They have a website, offer online scheduling, and showcase all their barbers on Instagram. That's what made me decide to give them a shot. I checked out the barbers and their work on Instagram, and I was impressed -- their fades looked solid. That simple, smart move of being visible online and showing their skills won them a new customer. I told the owner kudos for that. Plus, booking an appointment was really easy and convenient with no back and forth or hassle. If you've ever dealt with barbers who make the scheduling process more complicated than it needs to be, you know what I mean. The cut looks clean, and I like it, though next time I might go back to a fade. I'm used to getting fades, but I'm open to trying new styles. I'll see how it grows out in the next few weeks. The plan was to do a cut that looks good now and continues to look good as it grows in over time. That part remains to be seen. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the haircut, the service, and the shop. If you're in the Kew Gardens area and have been looking for a place that does good fades, stop by and check out Prestige Barbershop. It's right across the street from the 7-11 on Lefferts.

Ledo has been my barber long before he opened this shop in LIC. I remember my first haircut by Ledo at Astor Hair, Union Square. Frankly, I was scared. I am always a little perturbed when trying out a new barber. The first haircut with a new barber is never perfect. The barber generally takes a few attempts before he gets what really pleases me. So, I sank into Ledo's chair. He quizzically looked at my square head (not the easiest shaped head!) and I began giving him some instructions. He told me he knew what I wanted and what would look good on me. He made some suggestions and I reluctantly agreed, wondering what this man is up to hovering over my head with those scissors! Snip-snap-snip-snap bzzzzzz snip-snap buzzzzz .... Ledo went about calmly (and very confidently) with his scissors and other equipment on my head. I was shocked when he was done. It was perfect! I couldn't believe it. It was love at the first scissor snap! I was hooked! A good haircut makes me feel good and that day I really felt good. I do believe Ledo performs magic with his hands. He is a really cool guy, very observant and focused, an artist, a magician, extremely hard working and a really nice guy with a good heart. I live in Staten Island and yes, I travel all the way to Long Island City, Queens to get my haircut from Ledo every week.....I wouldn't go anywhere else. Many come to him for their haircut from far and wide. He is worth the trip. His new barber shop in LIC has a delightful, arresting old-world charm. Its decor, ambience and lilting music transports the observer to a bygone era when class and sophistication were valued and upheld. The first time I was there I felt I walked into an episode of "Mad Men". The shop is new, clean, smells good and very comfortable. It is a very unique experience, unlike any other I have encountered before. Yes, sometimes we have to wait a while for our turn but it is totally worth it. $25 will get you an excellent haircut from a great man. read more

Of all the business experiences I've ever dealt with, this is absolutely one of the greatest. I've been to barbershops all throughout NYC and none of those experiences have come close to this. Granted, I don't have a crazy hairstyle, but it's a big deal when a barber doesn't pay attention and you end up walking out of a shop with a haircut that is about 60% of what you wanted. This barbershop gives you 100%. I'm sure all of the barbers at LEDO are fantastic, but Sal in particular is an absolute pleasure. read more

They pay a lot more attention to the world cup soccer game so much more than to your hair, and they will always cut my hair short than I ever want it, plus if your hair is one inch or longer , they will not know what to do with it , even the owner himself will book appointment with other barber, so I stay away from ledo barber as far as I possibly can, I will consider move out of LIC because of it. read more
