Dr. Leavitt performed surgery on me several years ago. It was supposed to have been a simple laproscopic removal of ovaries. The surgery was done in an outpatient facility. My family practically fainted when he came out to tell them he was transferring me to the hospital. He had my blood & tissue all over his shoes. I spent 3 days in the hospital. He was so angry that he had to transfer me (like it was my fault!) He even embarrassed me in front of a visitor by speaking rudely to me. On my discharge day, he removed all the staples. Naturally, 3 days wasn't enough time for healing, and consequently the incision started to open up after I came home. I was frightened, and called him. Instead of being concerned, he screamed at me saying that happens all the time and refused to see me in his office when I asked him to take a look at the incision. Needless to say, I went to another physician. This physician just shook his head. Then he confided that he, himself, had problems with him after referring other patients.
I had only had 1 appointment with him prior to the surgery, and I must say, he seemed nice. That's why I proceeded with the surgery. After experiencing such a wild display of erratic behavior and schizophrenic-like emotional swings, I began to suspect he had problems. I have no way to prove what I suspect, but the "boating under the influence" referred to in the other review, may shed some light on my suspicions. I would have to ask, under the influence of what? I'm confident the info referred to in the other review on the Florida Department of Health site doesn't begin to tell the whole story about this man. I could go on and on and fill in many other details, but suffice to say, I would avoid him like the plague. In fact, from the legal notices in the paper this morning regarding a foreclosure by Marine Bank against him, maybe many potential future patients will be able to avoid him as well. read more
