J.W. Hulme and I have a long and sorted relationship. I did business there for several years until…read morethey started outsourcing to China. Apparently they recognized that they were losing business by removing their manufacturing from the US. Now I'm back, because they have been offering items made in the US albeit, I don't know if they are being made in Minnesota. For myself, I am a bit of a purse snob. I have several vintage Coach and D&B purses from my mother's youth. However, I exclusively purchase French made Longchamps and American made J.W.Hulmes. I get loads of compliments on my Hulme bags. Most are reminiscent of New York City made Coach bags. They are heirloom items. I purchased my first Longchamp 17 years ago and they came with a "key leash." I prevents my keys from sinking to the bottom of my purse and stops me from panicking if I can't locate them immediately. Now J W Hulme's American made purses have a key leash. Hopefully, they are visible in the photo I've posted. Not only are they offering American made leather products, but they are offering clothing and accessories. They usually state in their catalog where the item is made. I started purchasing the majority of my Christmas and birthday gifts again at J.W. Hulme. I like that they're offering other things. It gives me more to chose from when it comes to presents. I am not going into their retail shop, as my first experience was less than pleasant. I'm very pleased to exclusively purchase from the catalog. I bought one small, "imported" purse for my stepdaughter. I didn't want to spend a fortune on the item, because I wasn't sure she'd appreciate purses yet. It was made in China. She loved the purse so much, that it fell apart within a couple of months. Stick with the America, British or even Mexican made products from this retailer and you'll be pleased. I pray that they are employing those fine leather artists here in Minnesota.

It was so pathetically stupid. They had no idea what they're once glorious brand stood for. They failed our community.

ZZ…read moreTop One day while I was negotiating a treacherous snow barrier between the street and the sidewalk outside of Heimie's Haberdashery, a most dashingly dressed employee rushed out to save the day, escorting me over the snow pile. I guess my questionable mountaineering skills must have made him nervous! Heimie's hero was just the Sherpa guide I needed for my mini-Everest expedition. I can't thank him enough for helping, especially since he wasn't even wearing any winter gear...just his fancy shmancy suit. Heimie's snowbank conqueror was so impeccably dressed that I'm sold on purchasing a bow tie here for my six-year-old nephew very soon. He will be going on his first official chaperoned ice cream date with a young lady determined to marry him in the future, and he specifically requested a bow tie for the event. Clearly there is a lot at stake for this very serious date, so he will need a dapper tie that is sure to impress! No pressure, Heimie's, no pressure.

This is a very sad review to write because I had such high hopes for this store. But my experience…read morewas dreadful. There are no reliable custom tailors where I live, so I set up an appointment for mid-January, when I visited the MSP area. They measured me, and I ordered three pairs of custom slacks. Since they advertise themselves as custom tailors, I assumed they would be making the slacks in-house. But after I had paid, they told me they would be made elsewhere and the process would take about a month---i.e., until mid February. It turns out that the slacks actually are made in China. When they did not arrive on the delivery date, Heimie's told me there would be a further month's delay. By the time they arrived at Heimies, 2-1/2 months had passed. Then the Heimie's staff let the slacks sit in their shop for a week before, at my urging, they finally sent them to me. And when the first two did arrive, they were not as ordered! I had pay a local seamstress to correct them. Heimie's has not responded to my repeated inquiries as to the undelivered third pair. I had to challenge the charge on my credit card and I am still---3 months later---without a seriously-needed third pair of slacks. My experience is not unique. Other reviewers have reported long delays in delivery, broken promises, and non-responsiveness. I wish I'd read those reviews before patronizing Heimie's.

I picked out the fabric and my name was put on a list. I didn't get an email, and I left messages at Tony's two times but didn't get a return call. I finally went by Tony's and was told that the lady I had been working with wasn't in and that she would call me as soon as she arrived. You guessed it. I never got a call. That has been three days ago. Just be aware that they may do good work, but they don't do what they say they are going to do. It is now April 12.
