I hadn't been to Leatherhead leisure centre for a few years and was surprised to find it covered in scaffolding last night when I arrived to play badminton. Apparently, they're just finishing phase 1 of a 3 phase refurbishment Our badminton court was in the main hall, which can accommodate 4 courts. The lighting was overhead but not too bad - we only occasionally lost sight of the shuttle. The court surface wasn't slippery and there was no breeze. The main drawback is that the prices here are high compared to nearby leisure centres for badminton. They lose a star for not allowing recovering Armed Forces personnel from nearby rehabilitation centre Headley Court (some of whom have had amputations from war injuries) to use the swimming pool when members of the public complained. 6 years ago this place used to be a depressed building; barely calling itself a leisure centre whilst hosting a swimming pool, a few spaces for sports and disgusting carpets. Now it's shiny, modern and welcoming. The staff are pleasant and they rent out sports equipment for free! And by sports equipment I mean we got a badminton raquet. What else they're hiding under their counter I'm not sure. There's a huge kids section with an area for parents to sit down and keep an eye on them, whilst also being able to have a cup of tea! Delightful. The spaces upstairs that you can rent for classes or whatever are very bright and airy, with are least one of the rooms having a mirror wall. It's genuinely nice to be there these days. read more

A clean and tidy establishment, good facilities,but feels like a doctors surgery! Perhaps I'm the only one, but whenever I'm greeted by the reception staff I feel like I'm at the doctors surgery. I feel like I am somehow an inconvenience to them and my patronage is not required. You're never greeted with a smile, you're made to wait until they have finished their conversation with their colleague ( normally about what they had for lunch) and whenever you ask them for timetables or information about classes they have no clue. And why close early on a bank holiday, makes no business sense at all! I'm sorry but this is simply not good enough!Customer service training is badly needed, make the place welcoming and ensure that when staff are at a reception desk they are ready to receive people not make the wait while you finish you're telephone conversation with your husband! Rather than saying "the computer says no" perhaps learn something about the place you work at and consider greeting paying customers with the respect they deserve. read more

This is the local leisure centre that has so many activities it's untrue. You can go to a pay as you go gym, no expensive joining fees etcthey have aerobics, step, fight klub, fitness yoga, water aerobics etc. You can hire a tennis court, badminton court, they have crazy tots. You can hire some rooms for a party or conference, they often are holding all sorts of events at the weekends. The building itself is a little tired but we have heard they are to do something about this, but don't let this put you off because this is a good centre with friendly happy staff that are willing to help you. I would recommend classes taken by Elaine, she is fun and bubbly and hard work, but that's what you want isn't it from a class of step or step and tone etc Go on give it a go! read more

IF you decide to phone them they take ages to answer (20 minutes plus). I tried to book a squash court and they didn't put it on the system (second time this week). The place is going really downhill and the staff don't seem to care. Really not impressed read more
