History
Established in 1974.
Leather Art was originated in September of 1974. It was founded by Errol G. Specter who is still the owner/operator of the business. There are no employees. Errol began the business after apprenticing for six months from 1973 to 1974 with artist Allan Carp in West Covina, CA. Since then, the hand crafted leather work of Errol G. Specter has been sold in nearly 1000 art and wine festivals, craft shows and other festivals. Errol has also placed his work in many San Francisco Bay area stores over the years. He is currently retired from the art show circuit and has recently opened his own gallery at The Tannery Arts Center, 1060 River St., Studio 108, Santa Cruz CA. Meet the Business Owner: Errol S.
Errol is an artist of many talents and media since childhood. He grew up in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. After high school he joined the US Navy and was discharged from active service in 1968. At that point Errol began his professional life as an artist by producing a series of abstract oil paintings that showed in a gallery in Del Mar, CA. He then went to school in San Diego where he completed his initial college education with majors in Art and Philosophy. After leaving college he opened his Leather Business based in Ben Lomond, CA. Due to the success of that business, he was able to reanimate his fine art work and also established his electronic music studio. To date he has produced 18 albums of visionary music. He currently offers to the public through his web site all of the various mediums of art he has developed over the past 40 years and has some of his leather artwork displayed at Roaring Camp General Store and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Gift Shop in Felton, CA.
