Joe promised, and Joe delivered…read more When my wife and I moved out of Brooklyn and bought our home in East Brunswick, we fell in love with all the landscaping the previous owners meticulously put in. Our property felt like a botanical garden, far exceeding the standard run-of-the-mill landscaping jobs you see in most neighborhoods. What I didn't realize at the time was how completely unprepared I was to maintain this level of landscaping. Even after renewing the previous owners' contract with Broehl's (the local gold standard for lawn care and maintenance) there was still too much to do. Unfortunately, I have a black thumb for this kind of thing, and there's only so many checks I can afford to write to try and keep things looking good. So for the past few years my wife and I have actually invested money in scaling *back* some of the landscaping; essentially ripping out and replacing some of the more complicated beds that have steadily been beat on over the last few brutal winters and didn't look good any more. When we met with Joe, we were clear that we wanted nice-looking beds, but nothing that would be over-the-top difficult to care for and maintain. And we wanted clear sight lines down our front yard so we could see our kids playing in the street. The overall amount of work we need to do to get our property where we really want it is pretty staggering, so Joe discussed a phased plan that would allow us to get started without breaking the bank. Long story short, he and his crew ripped out the mess of bushes and plants and undergrowth that marked the front and center portion of our lawn. He designed a simple, but elegant bed that he said would look great but wouldn't be impossible to maintain. He took photos of our property in advance, and then simulated his recommended design over the photos via computer, allowing us to "see" what it would look like before we'd have to commit. As you can see from the photos, Joe and his crew did a great job. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the work. We get a ton of compliments on the before and after. (Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the before, but trust me -- this was a huge leap forward.) Truth be told, you're really at a disadvantage if you cannot do at least some of your own landscaping. Professional landscaping is expensive -- plain and simple. And frankly, I hate paying for it. But as I said in my previous review, Joe is a no-nonsense, honest businessman. If, as the saying goes, a man is only as good as his word, Joe is a good man. He and his crew are completely professional and do great work at a very competitive price. Just look at the photos and see the work for yourself. Alex, on the other hand, gave us a quote on the spot and his team was at our house within a week with trucks filled with dirt and top soil to fill in the low spots. We haven't had any issues with pooling since. Since then, ADP Land Design has helped us remove a 50' decaying tree, removed an old tree stump, planted several new trees, built a fence around our 1 acre backyard, and tidied up the landscape on our front lawn. Everyone was super friendly, responsive, and professional. My husband described the crew as working as if they were working on their own yard because they were taking such care. We will be using this service now on an ongoing basis, for weekly mowing, seasonal clean-up, pruning, etc., and for whatever else comes up! We live on a decent size lot, an acre, and the yard and beds, shrubs, etc., had not been maintained for a long time, prior owner made some bad selections, etc. So, this was a big job. Removed 10 ENORMOUS shrubs, installed dozens of new plants/trees, huge spring clean up, installed 21 cubic yards of mulch, weed preventative, created overall landscape design, relocated some existing shrubs, used existing field stones to create perimeter for beds. Plus, willing to go extra mile to do extras that I did not expect, like removing tree limbs that needed removal either because of pre-existing damage or for health of tree. Update: the original review was written about 18 months ago. We continue to use Princeton Lawn and Landscapes for all our lawn and landscape needs. We continue to be very happy and highly recommend them to everyone! Tom continues to go above and beyond to make sure we are happy with any of the work his team does for us.

About 2 years in we started getting multiple cracks, the cracks were large and ran across the width of the driveway- I contact Amwell, Thomas, and asked him to come take a look. It took several calls before he finally showed up. He told us he would be able to fix the cracks but he was very busy right now so he will let us know. Several weeks passed and I never heard from him. When I finally was able to reach him again to see if he could give us a date to return to fix the cracks he said he didn't know if he had time to fix the driveway since he was so busy. It was a competitive price and honestly the best I'd gotten from checking with three other Masonry Companies. I should have realized something was wrong when Tommy called me two days before the scheduled work to try to come the following day, as he'd had a cancellation. Normally not an issue, but he called me at 9pm at night and I had other things going on the following day. In addition to this, I had to pester Tommy about a formal written estimate, which I finally got in writing via an email. It was a short paragraph that was missing the total for the job, and wasn't on any letterhead or even in a format or on a form. All I had was Tommy's verbal estimate from when he came to see what I needed. On the day the work was to commence, Tommy came with his crew of two other men. While he did an acceptable job on the Asphalt Repaving of my driveway, the cement slab he laid on the side of my house for my garbage cans remains unfinished. He left a crowbar, a dirt mound, the wood planks in place and several other bits and pieces. I had asked him to lay a second slab of concrete because the first one was too little in length. He said, "No problem and that he had to be back next week anyway to finish.". After about three phone calls from me Tommy finally responded and said he'd call me the next day to set something up. When he didn't call, I called him, my fourth call of the week and he said he'd be there the next day in the afternoon to finish. He never showed up. He never called or texted me. I finally sent a text saying we were done and that I could not give him a good review. Last, but by far not least, at about 3:30pm on the day of the job, he approached me about payment. I was going to give him either a credit card or a check which is standard, although some companies let you pay online or bill you. Tommy gave me none of those options; instead he asked for CASH!!! $2500 CASH!!! He said this was because he pays his crew in cash. Honestly I don't want to know he pays his crew in cash, but I was still shocked. I had no prior knowledge from Tommy about this, not in his initial visit or in his email estimate! So, at the end of the day he springs this on me. I had to get in my car at 3:40pm in the afternoon on a Friday and rush to my Bank to withdraw $2500 dollars in cash!!! Poorly done. The communication and professionalism from Tommy was sorely lacking, I felt disrespected and felt like I was treated very discourteously. I was left with an unfinished job and was forced to find another Mason to finish it. I cannot recommend Amwell.
