Phelma and Marla are the two directors who took a big interest in our son and we greatly appreciate all they did for our family. I will start off by saying I am a first responder so I am extremely picky and very protective when it comes to my children. If I didn't have total confidence in ALFK Academy I would not be leaving this review or entrusting them with my child's care and education. When we moved to the area a year and a half ago we needed to find child care/early education for our youngest. We searched around the Sherman/Denison area and zeroed in on ALFK Academy after checking with other centers because of their focus on teaching children in a Christ centered atmosphere. The class sizes are great and allow for more one-on-one time if needed. The entire staff is wonderful and communicate with us on a daily basis whether at drop off or pick up, or via phone if there is a need to do so. My son is excited every morning to go to school and see his teachers and friends. Sometimes he can be quite a handful, but the staff know exactly how to bring him down a level in a calm and caring manner and have done a wonderful job in helping us prepare him for kindergarten. In fact, he is at a higher level now than our other children were at the same time in their lives, and I have no doubt it is due to the curriculum and teachers he has at ALFK Academy. I really could go on and on regarding the positives of ALFK Academy, but I worry this could become so long many won't read the entire review and just keep scrolling, so I will close by saying.... Take it from someone who worked here! It is unsanitary! Kids were playing with a dead rat outside! and instead of the teacher washing their hands, they used wipes. When brought up to the manager she laughed and said she'd take care of it later. It is still outside for children to pick up! It never got handled. The children's toys are NEVER CLEANED! They use expired milk to give your kids!! The manager lets her children run around the school doing whatever they want! The pay for teachers is very low and even lower for the floaters. The manager watches the cameras on her free time judging every single teacher and gossiping. I was told I would be a floater and I got floater pay. Not teacher pay. Yet was expected to be a teacher and exhaust myself trying to keep eyes on all students cause the primary teachers don't do their job when the floater comes in to help. It's not helping! You are expected to do their job entirely for not the same pay! I left when I was told I would be filling in for a teacher that called out sick in the toddler room because that is not my job description and out of my pay grade! (Which I was very honest and as nice about the situation as possible and communicated to them.) They make you sign a form stating if you do not put in a 2 weeks notice you will get pay reduced for the last pay period. That makes sense! Right? Well I finished my pay period out. Signed for it and everything. Pay period was from 3/10-3/23 . I left and gave notice I wasn't coming back on the 25th. To which the manager and the owner decided to make up the pay period by adding 2 extra days to my paycheck to make it my first and last and told me I will only be receiving minimum wage (for the entire 3 weeks I worked) when I wasn't getting enough pay to begin with for everything they were making me do! They are doing illegal things and make you sign documents that contradict themselves! It's very sketchy and they are doing a lot of illegal acts. I only say this because this is Jessica Queen(The hiring Manager/Soon to be Head director) and Bindu Jaganatan (Owner/ Head Director)'s game. This is how they make money. They rip off their workers and call them "bodies" (check camera and audio she says it in the front office) to fill in where they need help and then push them to quit and cut their pay in half. It's disgusting and pathetic. Your employees and these children deserve so much better. I care about these kids, and I care about any future employees.
