I mainly come to Ollie's for comics. I was surprised to see that they had so few. I later went to a new location in Orlando and found the same situation. I guess that's normal for a brand new Ollie's. I still managed to make a few good finds, and the rest of the store was like any other Ollie's. Worth coming to every once in a while to see what closeouts they have. I expect the comics will be more full after a few shipments.

Know ahead of time that Metropolis, IL is cute and charming as heck. But besides this, there is pretty much nothing else to do besides Harrah's Casino, so I'd recommend it more as a road trip stop rather than spending a weekend here. You can easily be in and out within 2 hours max. The Super Museum, however, was a LOT more than I expected! This collection of Superman memorabilia is insane, and has so many pieces that are decades old, from many of the films, and some random, quirky stuff. The tickets were only about 8 bucks and you can spend as long as you'd like in there. They've got a pretty awesome gift shop, too! This is a really neat attraction to stop at if you're driving through Southern Illinois!

I am not a hardcore Superman follower. I went in not knowing what to expect and walked out genuinely impressed. This is not a polished museum experience. It is an enormous, sprawling, slightly overwhelming collection of Superman memorabilia that someone dedicated their entire life to assembling. Much respect to the passion and dedication this took. The front of this establishment is a gift shop packed with Superman (and other superhero) giftware. If you want to see the actual collection you pay a little extra and head into an entire different adjacent room. This space if filled with little trinkets all the way up to full collector pieces, costumes, props, and items spanning decades of Superman across every format. They even have pieces from Lois and Clark, the 1990s TV series, which I absolutely watched as a kid. If you are anywhere close to Metropolis, just go. Budget an hour, pay the few dollars, and go see the "museum". You don't have to be a Superman superfan to appreciate the sheer scale of what one collector put together. It's worth the detour. But today, I felt an employee was lurking, watching me look through the racks and I was uncomfortable. A piece of clothing had fallen to the floor near me, that I don't think I dislodged. The employee came right up near me, and hung it back up. I apologized despite not being sure I had done it. They said nothing back me, just gave me a dirty look. At that point I put back the shirt I was planning to pay cash for, and walked away. I glanced over my shoulder and they had already snatched up the shirt and moved it back to what I guess was a better spot. I just smiled as the person glared. Once I finished shopping, I was privileged to be in the checkout line to witness Target employee Chris interacting with the customers ahead of me. He was so professional and friendly, handling each person as if he knew them, issuing a warm smile with every interaction. I saw other Target associates come to him asking when to take their breaks or how to handle a particular issue. Chris quickly answered them without losing track of the task or customer in front of him. When it was my turn in line, I asked him how long he had been in management because he looked so young. To my surprise, he told me that he was not a manager. I wish more people with customer service jobs took the time to engage with those around them, as Chris at Target in Marion, IL, does.
