They include some things like a barn tour, and they ride a pony at the end of the year for the 4 year old class, but they aren't outside playing or incorporating outside learning. They are largely inside with ditto sheets, and doing typical preschool curriculum (ABCs, 123s), circle time, coloring on a coloring sheet, music, art and PE. That was a little disappointing and maybe I should have done more research on it. There also aren't stations in the class. They get moved to various locations like the music room, PE, library and that was not a fit for my kid. She was afraid of having to leave the classroom as a child getting used to going to school for the first time. The farm felt big for her They are also not very supportive if you have a child who regresses with the potty. They need to be 100% potty trained and must stay home if they have 2 accidents in a week. If you need an accommodation, like using a different potty in the building, that's not accommodated. Their stance on child psychology and education principles are largely old - school and not at all geared towards the child. It's more one size fits all. There is also limited time to volunteer in the class if you want, or even interact with the teachers. You drop off at the door, pick up later, and need to call the front office to schedule anything further. You don't get many updates on your child, just a "they did good or they had a hard day " if your child is out sick or for another issue, they do not check in after an extended period of time. I found that to be strange. Communication lacks as there is no email or way to communicate with parents outside a red folder with some assignments and a calendar. There is an app they use for (I think weather alerts?) but they never once updated it with any information. If you have a concern you have to call the office. They could benefit from an upgrade into the year 2024 on how to communicate with parents and use technology. For a parent with a 3 year old or 4 trying school for the first time, I can imagine communication feels very important to feel your kid is ok. I'm writing this as neutral as possible for parents to make up their own mind on if this could be a fit for their child. A huge positive is the option for half day Kindergarten when that time comes. The class sizes are also fairly small.

My son has learned so much from his time with Ms Jamesha and Ms Kendra. They are the sweetest and handle the kids with such kindness and patience. You definitely feel like everyone employed here actually cares about the children and this is not just a job to them. Which I think says a lot about this particular location. I am writing as a concerned parent to share my experience with Callahan Learning Center on Maple…read more My child has been attending for the past four months, and during that time, my child has been sick several times. This is not my child's first daycare experience, so my child has already been exposed to group settings before. Because of that, I have concerns about the cleanliness and overall condition of the facility. I believe the center needs repairs and a much deeper cleaning routine at the end of each day. On several occasions, I have arrived in the morning, when my child was only the second child there, and noticed that the floors and tables were still dirty. I have seen crumbs underneath the tables and trash left behind, which is concerning for a childcare environment. I also do not feel that this facility is a good fit for healthcare workers or parents with demanding schedules because of the strict 9-hour limit and the added charge for every minute after that. This policy can be very difficult for working families. Another major concern is the K4 class. I personally do not feel that it is preparing children for kindergarten. I asked several times what curriculum or program they use and whether formal teaching is taking place. Through the app, I would mostly receive pictures of stretching or occasional activities, such as learning about plants or coloring ice with food dye. However, I never saw evidence of a structured daily educational program. I also asked about workbooks, and although workbooks were present in the classroom, nothing had been completed in them. Honestly, it often felt like the children were mainly being supervised and given paper to color rather than being actively taught. From what I have seen, my child has not learned much during this time. I would often ask my child what they learned or what they did during the day, and I did not get the sense that there was consistent academic instruction. One positive is that students are allowed to bring snacks and drinks from home, which helped because my child did not always like the food served there. The center does document food intake, but there were several times when I questioned the accuracy because foods were marked as eaten that my child does not eat at all. I also have concerns about hygiene practices. On one occasion, the children had been outside playing, and afterward there was a bowl of grapes on the table. The children were allowed to put their hands directly into the bowl without washing them first, even after playing outside. That was very concerning to me. I do want to say that Ms. Kat, Jamiese, Ayede, Jessica, and Lexie were wonderful teachers and worked well with my child. I truly appreciate their efforts. However, I do not understand how Whitney became the supervisor. In my experience, she has had a nasty attitude and is often on the phone. I have also seen other reviews mentioning staff being on their personal phones, and from what I observed, that appears to be true. Overall, I am sharing this because I believe parents should know both the positives and the concerns. My intention is not to tear anyone down, but to speak honestly about my experience and the areas where I believe serious improvement is needed

I've had minor incidents but I am not a parent who doesn't understand accidents, hits, scratches, bites, etc. occur sometimes . I've worked in daycares and if you are very cautious/overprotective/ questioning everything parent daycare may not be the right fit for you! I do not worry about my 2 year old at all anymore once she is at daycare. The most I do is miss her and wonder what she is up to, which I did not feel with her previous daycare. All of the staff from directors to part time teachers and drivers are awesome. The only area for improvement I've seen is the need to replace the carpets (they are filthy), deep cleaning toys/furniture, or renovating. The professional deep cleaning service was there a few weeks ago , but that isn't enough after so many years things must be replaced.

After that she excused herself and went to the restroom. When she returned she told me they only have 46 slots with 52 kids already... I guess they don't go by ratio. I looked at her and smiled, that's what I do when I'm annoyed but want to be kind. I asked why I didn't receive a call because I took off work for the tour. Again in an overwhelmed state she says "I am the only one here today, the online scheduler just sends things in, I've been very busy today." As though her busy was superior to my time and responsibilities. After all, that's the job. I calmly told her, still smiling, I also work and am very busy, in addition to having a disabled child getting ready for brain surgery and touring schools... but I still can manage to RSVP regret. She ask, "if you'd like I can give you a tour and when"... I told her no, no thanks. As I was walking out I summed it up to a blessing for seeing what it would have been like there. It was the first time we had ever left him really with anyone other than family and they made us feel so good and comfortable. He has come LEAPS and BOUNDS since he started here. The staff in the Infant B room (Ms. Zariah, Ms. Tina, and Ms. Lindsey) are great and we/he absolutely love them. They are very good with communicating how his day was and it's great to get the updates and pictures throughout the day through the app. Ms. Kellee the director is great and always very easy to get ahold of or speak to.
