    Review Highlights - Breezewood KinderCare

After pulling my son out of a horrible daycare in Fredericksburg, I went to meet with a good friend of mine who works at this location.

This review is for the preschool. If you are expecting an outdoor / nature school it is not nature…read more- centered under age 5. They include some things like a barn tour, and they ride a pony at the end of the year for the 4 year old class, but they aren't outside playing or incorporating outside learning. They are largely inside with ditto sheets, and doing typical preschool curriculum (ABCs, 123s), circle time, coloring on a coloring sheet, music, art and PE. That was a little disappointing and maybe I should have done more research on it. There also aren't stations in the class. They get moved to various locations like the music room, PE, library and that was not a fit for my kid. She was afraid of having to leave the classroom as a child getting used to going to school for the first time. The farm felt big for her They are also not very supportive if you have a child who regresses with the potty. They need to be 100% potty trained and must stay home if they have 2 accidents in a week. If you need an accommodation, like using a different potty in the building, that's not accommodated. Their stance on child psychology and education principles are largely old - school and not at all geared towards the child. It's more one size fits all. There is also limited time to volunteer in the class if you want, or even interact with the teachers. You drop off at the door, pick up later, and need to call the front office to schedule anything further. You don't get many updates on your child, just a "they did good or they had a hard day " if your child is out sick or for another issue, they do not check in after an extended period of time. I found that to be strange. Communication lacks as there is no email or way to communicate with parents outside a red folder with some assignments and a calendar. There is an app they use for (I think weather alerts?) but they never once updated it with any information. If you have a concern you have to call the office. They could benefit from an upgrade into the year 2024 on how to communicate with parents and use technology. For a parent with a 3 year old or 4 trying school for the first time, I can imagine communication feels very important to feel your kid is ok. I'm writing this as neutral as possible for parents to make up their own mind on if this could be a fit for their child. A huge positive is the option for half day Kindergarten when that time comes. The class sizes are also fairly small.

I contacted three stables in the area and all but Hazelwild gave me the runaround; requesting call backs and emails only to be told in the end that they were available for the service I was requesting. My time and effort were wasted and I ended up having no time to develop an alternate plan. However the Hazelwild staff were responsive and let me know the first time what they offered and that they were unavailable for me. I can't say how much I appreciated that.

I will list the Pros and Cons of whether or not you believe you should send your child to Childtime…read moreof Fredericksburg. I will mention for this post that the 6 Cons far outweigh the 4 Pros. We made the choice to pull our child from this daycare for the following reasons: Pros (4): 1) The main teachers for the toddlers room under 2 to 1 years old are amazing. They care about the kids and try to educate as best as they can. 2) They provided gifts/bags (i.e. candies, snacks, kids arts and crafts) for holidays to parents. The spirit weeks are also nice. 3) Daycare prices are very affordable. 4) They provide diapers for kids. Cons (6): 1) Security is suspect. There is a check in system and code lock but this is rendered ineffective due to piggybacking and there is hardly anyone ever at the front desk. There are questionable people who sometimes roam/linger the parking lot due to being off a main road and next to a gas station. 2) Cleanliness is a SEVERE issue. (There is no cleaning service that comes in at any point of the week. In the afternoons, it smells like diapers "urine and feces" in the front lobby. The teachers barely have time to clean the rooms and toys due to being under staffed.) (My child caught pink eye 3 times over the course of 2 weeks. Has had croup cough 3 times, and a number of upper respiratories over 6-8 months. And caught COVID-19 once.) 3) Safety is a yellow flag. (On the first day my child started, in transition of morning and afternoon staff they sent my child outside without a coat because they misplaced it this was in February.)(Another instance they sent my child outside missing one of their shoes). 4) Communication is not present. (Communication from the Daycare Director to the staff and parents is lacking drastically.)  (You ask the director one thing you get a different answer from the staff.) (One instance, a teach told us pink eye was going around the daycare we called the daycare office to see how many pink eye cases they had she said 0, my child had pink eye the following week.) (Another instance we were told water day was one day we brought our child in for daycare in swim attire. Just for us to be told once we got to the daycare that we would need to come back with clothes. We were late for a meeting because of that.) 5) Staff Turnover is evident. There are no updates of when a new teacher enters the classroom or leaves and what the new careproviders credentials are with the parents 6) Curriculum not present. There was never one presented or explained to us. Eventhough they say there is one on the website we have never seen one provided for our child. For the saftey of your child and your peace of mind our suggestion is to choose wisely. Sincerely, Concerned Parents

The facility has gone down since many good staff members have quit due to management at this facility. When you ask for upper manager no one contact you back and Ms. Wright refuses to give you the upper managements information to contact. The facility has had many maintenance problems that has lead to them closing the facility and not giving parents proper notice. We where not notified either when my granddaughter started having behavior problem out of the blue which we had not had any problems prior with her until she was placed in classroom with not enough adult supervision and another child started biting her and was not reported right away. We found out once my granddaughter stated someone bit her and then we had to ask question. I believe upper management needs to either step in and take a hard look at how this facility is being run or they will end up with a law suit for neglect before someone ends up hurt.
