I NEVER received any confirmation text or call that it would be holiday rates when I made the tee times. Oh, except after I first got there and told this verbally, I magically received a text at 7:42 that it would be holiday rates! I asked about any kind of discount or break on the price and was told emphatically nothing they could do! And I called other golf courses around and no one else seems to be charging holiday rates. We were looking for a new place to eat, and we read that there was a restaurant here. When we got…read morethere, we were informed the restaurant had closed 3 years ago, but the former president of the country club, Al Harker, gave us suggestions of other nearby restaurants. Then, he chatted us up and suggested we try a free 18 holes of golf and think about joining the country club. Mr. Harker is a great pitchman. We took him up on his offer and came the next weekend and played 18 holes. We were sold by the 5th hole. The first few holes are gorgeous, as they are on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Shafer and expensive homes. The last 9 holes are long, across the street and also fun to play. This is the nicest golf course in Monticello, and I imagine in and around this area. The membership for people under 40 is only $450.00. When you play, it's only $8 for 9 holes or $16.00 for 18 holes with a golf cart. When the kids at the clubhouse see your car approach, they bring a golf cart to you. Now that's service. The PGA pro, Jim, runs the golf shop and gives lessons. He's also very, very nice. The bartender, Angel, is friendly and will tell you lots of interesting things going on in and around town. We've had our vacation home for 3.5 years, and sadly, we've found the locals in Monticello to be less than friendly, and our neighbors have got to be the most suspicious, unfriendly folks around, but the members at this country club are very welcoming and wave when they see you. The minus one star is for the fact that the country club has no permanent restaurant. The Riverside Restaurant grills from Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m, and the country clubs offers hot dogs, brats and some fried appetizers. The shop sells soda, candy bars, jerky and potato chips. My biggest gripe though is how gross the bathrooms on the course are. No one has ever cleaned them in years so they are completely unusable, especially for women.

The waitress was average, could have been better, took a little longer then we thought to bring us our drinks ( which mine was completely wrong) and appetizers. The busboy on the other hand was horrible. He came out with our food ( which took about an hour) and ended up giving it to the wrong table. My husband tried to tell him that was our food but he completely ignored my husband and took part of our meal back to the kitchen. At this point we decided not to wait another hour for our dinner, paid for what we actually received and decided we will never return. If you are looking for a relaxing dinner without any hiccups and not too long of a wait I wouldn't recommend this place. A few places I would recommend, Oak & Barrel, Riverside Restaurant & Lounge and Anglers Restaurant, we have never had an issue.

What a great mom & pop business! We love this place because it's so nostalgic, not because we grew…read moreup here but because the pavilion, snacks, ice cream and mini golf makes us think how ideal a childhood spent here would have been. The prices are also nostalgic, like circa 1985. We've spent some time now on the driving range with the two, large, circular nets, old mini van with car alarm, a painted, dart target and big white barn (not a target but directly behind all the targets). Having all those targets to aim for makes practice a lot more enjoyable. We haven't tried the par-3, nine hole golf course, and I'm not sure we will because we are lazy, and they don't offer golf carts. I can see why they don't offer golf carts because the golf course is really a grown-up version of mini putting with a fuller swing, but part of the fun of golf for us is a cart. They have golf clubs you can rent, but they are so banged up, I'm not sure you wouldn't do better buying some clubs at Goodwill or any thrift store. We haven't tried the mini putting either, but it's sweet with rudimentary made buildings and characters. We like this place a lot because it seems very family oriented, is very, very cheap and there's no pretense of any serious golfers/golfing. It's surprising the people you see here from Chinese groups that don't speak English well, rednecks who looks more comfortable with a gun than golf club, teenagers who look too goth to know such a place exist, three generations of Hoosiers having family fun, and then, there's us - big city yuppies who need to master their skills at a friendly, nonjudgmental place before playing at the next corporate outing.

The carts are junky and I have never experienced worse cart paths. They are all made of dirt and gravel. They also don't allow spectator carts so don't expect to get to ride and watch someone play. Don't believe the website or the pictures you may see of this course. There are very few spots that actually look like a proper golf course. Not to mention the prices are crazy for this kind of condition. Everyone we have brought here today and even talked to has had something bad to say about this course. No wonder the only reviews were from 7 years ago. Even if it is a 36 hole course, it's a terrible time and not worth your money, or your sanity. I would rate this 0 stars if I was allowed.
