They'll turn up the ballpark driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at the ticket gate as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, they'll say. It's only eight dollars per person. Folks'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the Umbrella Bar and the Backyard, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. Or they'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Funk...The one constant through all the years, Funk, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, Funk. I went to some single A games in Virginia that were played on a high school field, so I was shocked when I arrived. It's a really nice facility, I was told IU Kokomo plays their games there. Not familiar with the ballpark, my experience started with buying tickets over the phone. I described the kind of seats I wanted, lady at ticket window provided exactly what I wanted; they were great seats!! The night I went was thirsty Thursday, so domestic beer was $2 for 12 Oz glass. Had a brat and eventually French fries. Parking was easy, may be a challenge if sold out. I had a blast!!!

The basketball court was refinished and added sturdy end brackets for holding the backboards, cool images on the backboards, seating, and a wall mural with a basketball theme too! The restrooms were upgraded and the park was generally in great shape. But now, one of the backboards is missing and the other has the finish on the backboard damaged. What happened? Can't someone at least get a plain backboard and basket to make the court playable? Such a shame. The rest of the park seems to be in okay shape. There are lots of amenities on site: baseball field, skate park, tennis court, and on the south end, a small playground. Lots of open space and some trees for shade (other smaller ones have been planted for future shade too.) There didn't seem to be any designated parking lot for the park. There was some parking along the baseball field on the north end and some street parking. And the "shelter/restroom" is rather small, so it doesn't lend itself to be the place someone would rent. Still, if the parks department or the neighbors spent a little bit of money, the park could become a lot more functional. Review #2482

The playground equipment is spread out among the trees and lets the kids burn off energy running from one piece to the next! There are multiple slides, swings, and there are two fort pieces. The large tower has slides and tubes that the kids can slide down. With multiple slides, the wait is minimal and keeps the descents interesting for them. There is also a shelter that can be used and I saw a remote grill near the playground if the shelter is being used. Lots of parking with two lots to help get visitors closer to the field they are playing on that day. Nice park with more to do than just sit and watch. Review #2330

Highland Park is a huge community park in Kokomo with lots of green space, recreational spaces and…read morea historic covered bridge. What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

We rented the Rogers Pavilion at Highland Park for our family reunion in August. We booked it about…read morea year in advance since we have our family reunion every August, and we wanted to make sure we could get the date we needed. The pavilion was around $250 for pretty much the entire day, which I thought was a great price for the amount of time and space you get. We really like this park because there's plenty of space and lots of parking. There's also a playground directly across the street that's suitable for kids of different ages, along with a basketball court. The pavilion itself has plenty of tables and chairs, you just have to set them up yourself. There's also a small kitchen, which is very convenient, along with two gender neutral restrooms on each side of the kitchen. The only downside is that the grill provided with the pavilion is a little bit of a walk from the indoor area. There's also another covered pavilion with seating between the grill and the Rogers Pavilion. There happened to be another event going on there during our reunion. It didn't interfere with our event, but of course, having the entire area private would have been even better. I really like this pavilion and think it's a great place to host an event. There's plenty of space, lots of parking, and activities for all ages. I'd definitely consider renting it again for future family events!

There is a well maintained parking lot that makes it easy for visitors to access the nearest playground. There is also a maintenance building nearby that stores the picnic benches in the off season. Beyond the playground is a baseball field, a basketball court, and a second playground to the west. None of these are conveniently located to the lot, but they do help fill out the space more evenly. This 150 year old, red covered bridge was moved to Highland Park in 1957 by the Historical Society…read more The bridge was originally located in Vermont, Indiana and is the last bridge with Smith type #3 trusses in the State. (Robert Smith was a famous covered bridge designer from Ohio. His unique designs used less wood.) The bridge, which was built in 1875, has a sorted and interesting story of survival that is described on the City of Kokomo's website. I walked across the one-lane bridge on a hot day this week. (The bridge is only open to pedestrian traffic.) The bridge is cool inside, shaded by large sycamore trees. Modern party lights hang inside the bridge to provide light. The bridge spans a creek that runs through the park. The bridge provided a beautiful backdrop for photos. There is close free parking near the bridge. Vermont Covered Bridge is a must visit for covered bridge buffs.
