Highland Park is a huge community park in Kokomo with lots of green space, recreational spaces and…read morea historic covered bridge. What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

The pavilion was around $250 for pretty much the entire day, which I thought was a great price for the amount of time and space you get. We really like this park because there's plenty of space and lots of parking. There's also a playground directly across the street that's suitable for kids of different ages, along with a basketball court. The pavilion itself has plenty of tables and chairs, you just have to set them up yourself. There's also a small kitchen, which is very convenient, along with two gender neutral restrooms on each side of the kitchen. The only downside is that the grill provided with the pavilion is a little bit of a walk from the indoor area. There's also another covered pavilion with seating between the grill and the Rogers Pavilion. There happened to be another event going on there during our reunion. It didn't interfere with our event, but of course, having the entire area private would have been even better. I really like this pavilion and think it's a great place to host an event. There's plenty of space, lots of parking, and activities for all ages. I'd definitely consider renting it again for future family events!

I needed a place to stop with bathrooms, but where the toddlers could play while I fed the youngest. This was perfect! It was maybe 7 minutes off Hwy 31 but we weren't in a rush, so no big deal. There's a nature center, but not open the time we arrived. The restrooms are attached to the nature center but luckily accessible from the outside and open when the nature center is not. Restrooms were clean. Just be aware that it's a little hike from the playground. Playground was nice, but in desperate need of new mulch. 2 pavilions but we chose a large tree to provide shade and stretch out under. The grounds are very well groomed and if I lived here, or if I didn't have so many littles, I would have liked to walk the path. Overall a great park!

This was my first visit to Jackson Marrow Park and I am generally a fan. There is a lot of open…read morespace which makes it possible for a 1 mile walking trail with a small amount of elevation change. There is a wooded area of the park that the trail goes by as well. Near the parking area is a large playground area that has a large fortress for kids to run around. There are also some swings, but not much else considering how much space is allotted to the kids. There is also the Kirkendall Interpretive Center which nobody has reviewed yet...probably because it has limited and odd hours, mostly afternoon. Seems a waste to build a facility and then not have someone there to allow visitors come in. Overall, this is a nice place to go for some peace and quiet or walk your dog if you like taking long walks without having to worry about traffic. There are a couple shelters available, but they require some trekking which can be bothersome if you have to haul a bunch of supplies from the parking lot. Review #2316

My first impression of the park was Fantastic! Beautiful stone structures like the pavilion and…read morebell arch are interspersed with colorful playground pieces (some really unique) and flower gardens. There is also a railroad car, swimming pool, volleyball, baseball, picnic tables, a concert stage, and a petting zoo! The playground was extensive and had so many pieces that kids could play all day! There are animals/dinosaurs to climb on, swings, slides, spinning pieces and things to climb through. One contraption was unlike any other piece I've seen in my extensive park visitations: it looks like a rail that kids hang onto a device that slides down hill with a few bumps and humps along the way. (Probably on older kids could do this one.) Upon closer review, I might take a half point off because the zoo is in need of attention. It is getting some; the aviary is being upgraded while the birds are housed off limits in a barn. At some other petting zoos, there is staff available to watch over visitors and there is much more open access to the animals. Here, a high chain link fence separates the animals from the kids and a separate structure within the fenced area that contains lemurs and peafowl makes any contact impossible (probably a good thing, but it makes viewing the animals difficult too.) They do have an eclectic mix of animals including various chickens, geese, deer, alpacas, mini mules, Vietnamese pigs (I'm guessing), as well as the numerous birds in the aviary. If you like looking, it is fine...just not a "petting" zoo. I thought I saw a food dispenser on the other end of the fencing. When I approached, several animals came up to me like they thought I might feed them. Another thing: The swimming pool is large and has a water park. Very cool! But the large slide was going to be off limits all summer. I assume it is going to have some maintenance too. So, I am assuming that the park is going to continue upgrading the facilities and will round up to a 5 star rating. It truly is a beautiful park...just needs a light touch up. Review #1062

Beautiful birds flying around a large enclosure. There are benches inside where I suppose you can sit but I don't want to get pooped on so I stay outside. It was reimagined almost 10 years ago in 2014. There is free street parking available for the park and you could also park in the Bauer Family Center lot, which it sits behind. The park is not very big and has a decent full basketball court, a shelter with picnic tables under it, and a a couple of playgrounds. There is fitness equipment there, but it looks to be in fair condition, and thats generous. There are two playground areas here. They are both on the rubbery mat surface that are popping up at most new parks. There is an area for smaller kids that is fenced in and has a jungle gym with a tiny bridge, and some slides. There is also a low hanging swing there and a metal bench for caregivers to sit and watch the littles play. The other playground area, for bigger kids, has a bank of traditional/toddler swings. This area features a monstrous jungle gym contraption over there. As well as a stand up see-saw, and seat spinners. The equipment seems relatively new and is in great repair. The park has a hole seems to be well maintained and was clean. There is a fence around the entire park's perimeter. Other park amenities include a shower, which I found random, a glider swing, a share a book kiosk, and some benches (the Buddy Bench). This is not a destination park, but is a very nice community park that is nestled in a small neighborhood.

There are distinct playgrounds for different age groups and on the older kid side, there is a basketball court too. Parking is limited to street parking for the park visitors, but there is a lot for the Bauer Family Center if visiting both places. I was able to street park on Fountain St without any problems. There is also a small shelter area for shade since the trees on the property are on the perimeter and don't offer much shade to the playground. Note that the Bauer and other neighborhood buildings have murals that add fun backdrops to the playgrounds. Review #1086

It is a very modern park that is lined with the rubbery surface that most of the new parks are using. It has a half basketball court with an adjustable rim. The court is in great shape and has a bench along the baseline for spectators to sit and watch. You will find a very nice paved walking/jogging trail that goes around the perimeter of the park, as well as trails leading to the park from nearby neighborhoods. The bathroom facility at the park is very well maintained and is one of the better ones that I have seen in a park. They serviced the restrooms and trash while I was there. The park has two picnic shelters with tables under it and one has a couple of grills just outside of it. The playground is awesome. It has top-notch modern equipment. One side of the playground area has a very nice large jungle gym with a couple of slides, one of which is a spiral slide. There is also a bank of swings with traditional and ADA swings, a spinning net sphere, a pull up bar, and an interactive light game. This side is intended for 5 and older, but my 3 year old spent most of his time over here. On the other side is play equipment for smaller kids. There is a bank of toddler swings, a small jungle gym with a tunnel and slides, a couple of see-saws, a modern merry-go-round, and an expression swing. In between both area is some picnic tables and percussion musical instruments. Both play areas have benches on one side of it for parents to sit and on the other side (outer perimeter) are some workout equipment between some more benches, under a nice shade bearing awning. The workout equipment is intended for those over 14 years old. The equipment happens to face the respective playgrounds, so parents can get their workout on while keeping an eye on their littles. On final feature of the park is its green space. There is a patch of grass that can be used for playing catch, soccer, football, or flying a kite. It can also be used for working out or having a picnic. The only downfall of this space is that it is like in like a little crater. So, it gets very soggy after rain and snowfall and takes a while to dry. I really like this park. My littles and I spent about 2 hours here. It is not very big, spanning 5 acres, but still has a lot to do. This is definitely a destination park and was well worth the 40 minute ride for me to get here.
