A few of us went here for dinner after work. It's a great location, across from the water. We walked in on a weeknight and there was no wait. We were seated in a booth in the back which was nice. We ordered several dishes and shared. We had the gnocchi with chanterelles, sole, burrata salad and veal scallopini. The best dish was the sole. Coming in second was the mushroom gnocchi but it was on the salty side. The entrees came with sides which were amazing (spaghetti and whipped mashed potatoes). The only dish I didn't really like was the veal because it was chewy and overcooked. The portions were huge so order accordingly. Was recommending to go here by the hotel concierge. Popped in to get a pizza to go. The waiter was very kind and prompt in getting me taken care of. The pizza chefs are at the front so you can watch the pizza being made--which is such a quick process (3 minutes). There is indoor seating and a few tables out front. It's right on La Croisette, so a great location. The pizza was so fresh, delicious and light. The sauce was so yummy! read more

Food is a 4 and a long known establishment spanning decades. Great pizza, pasta and fish / meat choices. The reason why I am not giving it a 4 or higher is because the tables are crammed together resulting in the place getting atrociously hot and stuffy (impacting the overall dining experience). As a result we prefer the italian Caffe way better but the food is very good. read more

Last nite was our first nite in Cannes. We had the most horrendous total dining experience ever at Le Vesuvio. Our waiter was the worst ever. Rude, Disrespectful, and generally bad . After asking for ice for our drinks he said he would no longer serve us. Another server brought our Pizza which was just fair at best . Our Pasta was not edible it was so bad . It took 90 minutes to get our Pasta. These people have attitude that is off the charts, just that it's bad attitude. read more

It was our last night in Cannes and my husband and I really wanted to eat at one of the restaurants in the sand on the water. What we didn't realize is that they were only open for Lunch, probably because it was February, and it was just too cold for dining on the water. As a result, we saw Le Vesuvio across the street, did a quick Yelp look-up and saw that they got good reviews - for good reason! So, off we went across the street. We were seated promptly though there were many guests in the foyer looking at menus, presumably to determine if they wanted to get seated or leave. If they left, it was their loss. We squeezed our way to the back of the restaurant where the host pulled a table out so I could easily be seated, and a woman took my coat so I could have more space for seating and for my purse. Service was friendly and prompt (by French standards) in that we were asked if we wanted to order anything to drink fairly quickly. We opted for a mid-range white wine from the Cotes de Provence which ended up being very good. Within about 10 minutes, every seat next to us and around us was full. The place was hoppin! I can see why people say to expect a long line and to try to make reservations. I guess we got really lucky! Food was excellent - I had a pasta dish while my husband had a pizza - both were so good, and we practically licked our plates, and ate everything! Service was friendly and attentive, but the place did get very loud with it being so full. When I dine, and the place is really full during the "off season", I know I'm in the right place. (The couple seated next to us lived part of the year in the Cote d'Azur and said they ate at Le Vesuvio pretty regularly.) Good meal, reasonable prices, good service. Worth a visit! read more

On my annual trip to Cannes to see the family, Vesuvio is on the top of my list! I ate here twice in a week and it is my favorite restaurant in Cannes. Everything on the menu is above and beyond good but I recent discovered the Gorgonzola pizza! WOW I was amazed! The lasagna is also amazing including the veal. The highlight of my trip is to eat here with my grandmother and finish it off with a framboise melba! There is always a mild wait because this is THE best place in town. I suggest getting here before the dining rushes of lunch or dinner. DO NOT SKIP THIS PLACE! Rose wine and pizza in the summer is worth living for! read more

The majority of everyone dining the night I came in had a signature piping hot pizza in front of them, which I was very tempted to order. I actually went with the salmon fettuccine and was pleasantly surprised. It was fresh, flavorful and the salmon was cooked to perfection. The order was so big- I only finished half of my dish. This place is right on the famous La Croisette. It's jam packed every night and very lively. It's a great place for groups and to celebrate your birthday (trust me on the birthday part). Great spot over on the Cafe side. Tasty people, beautiful food and cool Cannes vibe that pleased my senses. Prices aren't outrageous for being right on the strip, and staff was friendly if not occasionally forgetful. If you go to Cannes and don't eat at Vesuvio you're fuckin' up! The prices are fair and the food is amazing. You may have to wait and once you get a table you probably won't have much room but its totally worth it. My suggestions are do the Magherita pizza so the toppings don't take away from the spectacular taste. Also the Gargonzola penne will curl your toes. Amazing food. American people who leave reviews about the poor service need to understand the service in Europe is much different than the service in US as they don't work off of tips. Our service was better than most other places we have visited here in EU. I'm very picky with Italian food, I'm not only an American citizen but also an Italian citizen. There's two sides to Vesuvio. The Cafe side and the Restuarant side. Both are great and reasonable priced for their location. The food is good, wine list is extensive and service is good for Cannes. My tip is you can get good wine by the glass on the Cafe side as you need to order a carafe on the Restuarant side for higher end grog. read more

It's Cannes and where do we go to eat that isn't going to break our bank any further than it was from time spent in Monaco. We find La Vesuvio and there is a line out the door of this place. What an amazing experience our waiter Alexander was honestly one of the best I have ever had, what a personality. Prices were super reasonable and everything was fantastic rustic Italian. They have a wood fired pizza oven and some really gourmet pizzas. I do wish they crisped up the pizzas just a little more but that would be the only complaint I had. This restaurant reminded me of some casual US Italian restaurants. Very busy, had to wait for a table, table crammed against one another, very loud. The food here was decent and reasonably priced. The wine just ok. The service was slow but thats because they're so busy. The pizza was very good. Oh and unless you want to up your cancer risk, you probably shouldn't take a table outside. We sat next to a chain smoker on one side and a cigar smoker on the other side. Not a MUST go but not bad if you want a reasonable Italian meal in Cannes. read more

Love this place! My favorite pizza place in Cannes, and my second overall favorite. They don't take reservations, so either get there early or be prepared to wait a bit. Don't worry, the wait isn't too bad.... just grab a glass of wine at the bar. Then make sure you order a pizza. Or try the sole - it's AMAZING. Lasagna is pretty incredible too. Servers have all been fun and very tolerant of the foreigners in for the festival. We see the same faces every year and they're all sweet. We were in Cannes for 4 nights prior to a cruise that embarked in Monte Carlo. We dined there 4 times over 3 days...EXCELLENT menu. From thin crust pizza to seafood pastas and delicious veal, this place won. We tried a few other restaurants in the area and were disappointed. Not the case with Le Vesuvio. Great Italian restaurant in the heart of the cannes croisette! we went to this place after an evening full of the fireworks competition and with almost every restaurant overloaded with waiting lines and frustrated staff, this one seemed to stand out! We ordered an Aubergine/Egg plant pizza, A lemon-butter sole fish and a Penna A l'arrabiatta pasta. The Aubergine pizza was the BEST I have ever had, well marinated and seasoned and the dough was crusty and thin just how we like it. The fish stole the show for me! It costed us half the bill but it was good enough to be worth it! Well seasoned, amazing quality and simply put, amazing! the arrabiata wasn't the best I have had but pretty decent and spicy. We had dinner at Vesuvio after reading the great comments from our Yelpers and felt like we needed to add some things. Everyone was spot on with the service - probably some of the best we had in Cannes - and we were dinning at 8pm which made it even more impressive. Our only disappointment came when our waiter was very insistent on a particular meal. As we looked around after being sat all the food looked great and the aroma of so many dishes was intoxicating. We had just decided on a potential meal (one our neighbor had just received) when the waiter came back for our order. He started right away with the sea bass meal for 2. He was very persuasive and before we knew it we had both ordered the meal. The food was good - just not worth what we ended up paying - and we both left the restaurant wondering how we started wanting Italian and ended up eating fish.
