La Corsa Al Cilento - Pasta carbonara and pasta marinara (with seafood)

An absolute gem of a restaurant located a bit off the beaten path of the hustle and bustle of…read moreMontreux and among our favorite dinner spots in our two weeks in Switzerland. This cozy Italian restaurant hugs a walled stream that comes down the mountain and serves some of the best Italian food we've had including our frequent trips to Italy. The place is decidedly low key. You are greeted by Mario a French speaking Italian (little English but you can get by) who is laughing and joking and making sure you have a memorable meal. For such a small place, they've got a huge number of options on the menu from pastas, risottos, meats, fish and pizza plus a few of mamma's recipes; at least 50 options. No English menus but I promise you know enough Italian or French to decipher most of it. The wine list-there is no list-just empty bottles sitting on a wine barrel with neck tags to indicate the price. I found a brunello for under 90 Chf! A great bargain. And speaking of bargains, the massive plates of food are priced mainly around 30-35 Chf. We were a group of 4 and each ordered something unique: creamy and luscious carbonara, vegetarian friendly eggplant Parmesan with its fantastic red sauce, a bacon and red sauce pasta and the decadent ravioli with black truffles (amazing!!). We shared a bruschetta to start that was made with very fresh and tasty ingredients. What a great find! If I lived nearby I'd be a regular. At these prices and with this quality coupled with Mario's fun style, you can't have a bad meal here. Highly recommended.

Made it Al Cilento and so very glad we did. And really glad we had a booking. We were greeted by…read morethe owner and immediately seated. By the time we ordered all tables were full and all locals. Know it was going to be good and it was far better than anticipated. We ordered bruschetta to start. It arrived deconstructed and what a great idea. It had the normal toast points and olive oil to add as desired with the tomato/basil/onion on the side and was accompanied with arugula, cantaloupe and olives....a meal in itself. For the mains we ordered the Pasta al Forno and the homemade Ricotta Raviolis Al Pesto Maison. Both arrived and we thought we were in Italy. They were huge and beautiful. And perfectly cooked. We ate until we couldn't eat anymore and barely ate half... the portions are huge. Sad we were too full to have dessert. Hopefully we will return in another visit. Recommend you try this small Italian restaurant that is located off the Main Street but within walking distance of the main hotels. It is Not a touristy place. You feel like you are eating with family. Also recommend advance booking.
