Waited 20 minutes to get a waiter- I moved to the very front of the bar hoping to catch a waiter on his way to the bar- no such luck so I left- went to Balthazar instead. read more

An oyster cleaning station is the first thing you will see just outside the entrance with a friendly oyster splitting gentleman smiling at you when entering the restaurant. Seafood is brought in daily from Brittany. The service here is professional and efficient. It depends on the waiter whether it is more on the friendly- or more on the efficient side. We had both experiences here. There is a friendly priced menu with the option of luxury foods like oysters, foie gras while paying a small extra. Other than that the menu is fixed and we were told the main course options couldn't be altered, even not with cheaper options from the menu. A little flexibility would have been nice, no deal breaker though. For starters we shared 6 No. 4 Oysters which came on ice and bread and vinaigrette with chopped shallots was served on the side. Seasoning is left to the guest, which is just the way we like it. The oyster still needs to be cut from the shell, this adds to the freshness. As a main course we had the Tartare de boeuf with fries and the Cabillaud which is cod fish fillet served with aioli sauce. The tartare was fresh and came already prepared with pickles, onions and capers, it tasted very good. The cod was served on a bed of vegetables such as pumpkin, sugar snaps, haricot vert, carrot and potato. On top was chopped black olive which complemented the fish nicely. A good selection of wines per glass, carafe or bottle. The view of the Chateau and the Theatre is stunning, in summer the terrace has the best viewpoint. Portions are reasonably large, we chose to end the meal with coffee and after we had a walk to the Chateau we fetched Italian ice-cream from the Italian ice-cream shop around the corner from the restaurant. Reservations are useful if you want a specific table. They seem to have a loyal local clientele which is always a good sign for the vacationing guest.

Slow service and a bit of an attitude from the staff, but food was excellent quality and pricing was fair, if a bit higher than expected. We brought a group of 20 people, had a reservation and were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is a fairly large place and located well within the city, near the city center and it's main tourist attraction the Chateau de St-Germain. They have an outside area, but we sat inside for dinner. We did kind of an attitude from the man who met us at the small-ish reception area, but it was not a big deal. Service was slow even though we were a large group. I am basing this on European standards, not American. However, they kept the drinks fresh and the waiters were very attentive overall. They ran out of my first choice, which was sea bass (filet de Par), so I had the cod (Pavé de cabillaud), which was very good. My colleagues were also very positive in their reviews of the food items. Dessert was had by many and comments were positive as well. The time to get served both was quite slow, as I mentioned.

He cleaned up a booth for us and all the staff were very friendly. We enjoy the leisurely pace of French meals so keep that in mind if you're a speedy minded North American. Same if you want soda refills or ice-that's not a French thing. The food was excellent. Our group tried the chicken burger, a cheeseburger, 4-cheese tagliatella, and cappocia, all except the pasta came with fries. The fries were so delicious, and if you want a more French experience have them with house mayo instead of ketchup. We had grilled pate fois gras for a starter and that was interesting. Good but unique-it reminded me of French toast. We also tried three desserts: chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and the dessert of the day panacotta. The panacotta was my favorite of these but all were good. The hostess brought us complimentary macarons as well (so nice) and I will say my first taste of pistachio macaron will not be my last. Far exceeded any expectations! This is a spot I'd recommend you try.

RANK: Woohoo is right - friendly staff, outstanding food! 2 entrees, 8 glasses of wine, 2 desserts - all for $80US We had just flown in to Paris last night and were walking up and down a main drag where we were staying. There was nothing particularly wrong with what we saw, but we want something quiet and small. We had circled back and found this restaurant, with a very friendly man named Yves who invited us in. The prices were close to 1/2 that found on the main drag - that's a good thing since the dollars in bad shape. Yves recommended the fish stew and brought for dessert a sweet cream dessert with grapefruit - absolutely the best dessert so far in Europe (we've been to London, Stockholm and Bristol so far). The staff were very friendly - as well as the patrons. One of the best experiences - one of the best meals. I tipped Yves an extra 10 Euro - he wanted to make sure I understood tips **ARE TYPICALLY INCLUDED IN THE BILL IN FRANCE** - but I went ahead and gave it to him anyway. He also advised to always eat at places off the main drag - they are cheaper and better. He is right!
