A two-top opened up inside and Julian was concerned that it would be too hot, so he made me go inside to check first. Thankfully, it was right by the open area leading to outside, so we took it and were seated in about 20 minutes, rather than 45. The place was packed the entire time we were there; its reputation certainly precedes it. Good energy and beautifully decorated with stunning art inside. Carbonades a la Biere (beef stew; 19.45 Euros) is their speciality and was delicious! So reasonably priced for the flavor and te size of the dish! After Julian mentioned that the lamb is the best dish on the menu, there was no question that I was ordering it. Jarret d'Agneau Roti (Roasted Lamb Shank; 27.35 Euros) was so very good! Full of Rosemary and so tender! As Julian was running by, I quickly asked him: "Tiramisu or Tarte Tatin?" No hesitation, he replied, "Tarte Tatin." I wasn't sure if he actually put the order in for us or not, but then it arrived at our table and it was delicious! Pear Tarte (8.65 Euros) with a side of ice cream. Its the perfect combination of fine-dining but with a family-run feeling that means you feel genuinely very welcome and catered for, rather than pretend poshness. San Daniele currently enjoys a Michelin Star, and for good reason. Quite a large menu for such a high quality restaurant, with a great mix of surprise combinations and old favourites with a twist. We tasted fish, pasta and meat and all three were simply delicious. I wish I could have licked my plate each time :) Fantastic (can I use that word again?) wine menu also. Desserts were of a similar quality, with probably the best moelleux chocolat I have ever tasted in Belgium. Which I think is quite a statement. It's just a very good 'brasserie' at a location where you would not expect it, better than most typical places in the city centre. Oh and be sure to have a drink later on at the pub le saint Charles. It doesn't get more authentic than that and they have the cheapest beers in town.

After walking around the main square, we went down a quaint little side street and stumbled upon this unassuming sandwich shop. The owner greeted us out front and told us he wanted to make us the best sandwich we've ever tasted. He said if we didn't like the sandwich, it would be free. We decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad we did. Not only is the owner one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, but his sandwiches are absolutely delicious! I can't even tell you what was in them, but they were incredible. Now every time we're in Brussels, we'll be stopping by Tonton Garby for a friendly visit, and a delicious sandwich.

The owner is so passionate and friendly and tries to strike up a conversation with every single customer, no matter where they're from. I thought the customer service was next level. As for the sandwich, I want to preface that I don't eat regular sandwiches. I'm super picky and usually just get meat and cheese. NOTHING else. So his sandwiches weren't really my style. They looked very good but I know I wouldn't enjoy it if I just ordered off the menu. He puts a ton of fruits and cheeses into your sandwich and asks a bunch of questions of what you like before putting it together. I went for a blue cheddar cheese and since I wasn't getting anything else, he cut a gigantic chunk for my sandwich. The only downside is I think the only meat he uses is small salami slices. He put in triple the amount he usually puts but the cheese still took over the whole sandwich (I ended up buying more meat from the grocery store to fill it up). Every sandwich he makes is the same price and comes with a drink. I wanna say that his normal sandwiches are probably amazing. Mine was okay after I added all the meat into it. I also didn't eat it right away. But I think the customer service itself should receive 5 stars.
