When I spent 5 months studying here in spring '90 I used to frequent a hole in the wall couscous place. Today on my first trip back to Aix, there's no way I could have found it, considering I was brought there first by Tunisian local friends who introduced me to the joy of North African cuisine. In the 22 years since, I've tried to make it myself, had it at lacking alternatives like in Paris, NY or SF. Finally, after all these years, the couscous is light, individual (not sticking together), the vegetable stew is perfect, and best of all, the HARISSA is real!!! Feel like I'm 21 again... P.S. upon entering, this place looks dark and dungeon like, and then it opens up into a beautiful garden!!! Doesn't hurt that the weather is just like at home today!!! read more

How can you enjoy food when the bearded man in charge is filthy rude and turns you away saying there is no place available and there were two tables empty? He spit on me as he made the Pff sound that is so common with the French. As we walked away, another lady came running and said that they DID have a table for us. Voila! It just magically happened! There are plenty of Moroccan places to eat in Aix where they make you feel welcomed. And don't spit on you before dinner ‍ Strongly recommend not bothering to go to this establishment. read more

Excellent food and generally efficient service. I had the lamb+vegetable tajine and it was very good. The red house wine paired well and was good on its own. Only a few minor complaints, like my table was wobbly, and when I walked into the restaurant, no one was there. I had to go all the way to the back of the deep dining room and turn left into the inner courtyard before I saw anyone and even then, they didn't notice me for several seconds as they conversed and I walked much closer. There is a lovely inner courtyard ("riad" in Morocco generally refers to a common Moroccan architectural style of a home with an inner courtyard open to the sky). The bathrooms have a chic, modern style to them and are very clean. read more

This has been the most DISAPPOINTING experience so far! We went to dinner at this place today and we weren't hungry to eat one whole entree per person and so we decided to share. But apparently we had to order one entree per person. We agreed and ate as much as we could, when we politely asked for the take away box our request was rudely denied. Seriously, first we are forced to order food and then we cant even take leftovers that we paid overpriced rates for?!?? I mean what wrong did we do?!? It was a logical request. Also, the manager is rude, when i asked for some hot sauce, so that I could add flavor to the tasteless "couscous grand" he looked at me in a guttural way as if I asked him for his kidney. The manager is a 25 year or so old imbecile who probably inherited this place from his father and will leave no stone unturned to run this establishment to the ground because of his attitude, lack of manners and unprofessionalism. read more

We had dinner here tonight and while the food is delicious. The management sucks - we were forced to order two dishes despite us requesting them that we weren't that famished. We ate as much as we could and we weren't given a take away box. We politely requested them that we paid so much money and we would really like a take away box. The owner (whoever that 25 year old imbecile) is quite rude and mannerless and really needs to learn a lesson in customer service! He should be fired immediately. Horrible disappointed in a country that has been nothing but so kind and accommodating to us in every way possible. read more

Four of us enjoyed a delightful dinner last night on their outside patio with Moroccan music playing softly in the background. We knew before we arrived we'd order couscous and it was delicious. I ordered a bottle of a Moroccan red wine and it was lush with fruit. Our waiter struggled with our English but we got the job done. I'd recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to try something different in a delightful setting. read more
