We found this place, not far from the port in Marseilles. They had some seating outdoors, and some indoors. It seems like most of the seating outdoors was only for a couple of seats or four people at best, so we sat inside where it was cooler and the tables were larger, the owner came and spoke with us and answered our questions about the menu. We all ordered a variety of things, but most of us ordered the steak. All the food was absolutely amazing. The attention and Service was that of a five star restaurant. The food was perfectly cooked the steaks at the right temperature, the hummus was perfectly made, and we were more than thrilled with everything we ordered. We would most definitely come back the next time we are in Marseilles. read more

In a lot of places in the world falafel is just a mediocre quick meal with very little interesting to offer in terms of taste. After a visit to Israel a few years ago I discovered that it could be different, still cheap and quick, but a lot better than I expected. It's the same high quality that Au Falafel serves. Lots of humus, greens (and not just some cheap salat and tomatoes) and small freshly cooked falafels in small layers in a hot and soft bread. For a good and quick meal, this really is a very nice option. If you want takeaway, you order what you want at the bar in the back, pay and then hand the receipt to the rather busy guy making the falafels in front of the shop. That had me confused for a while, so I got slightly behind in the queue, but I got what I wanted in rather quickly. As for eating in, that's also an option, but probably not the romantic option, with plastic plates and takeout-customers wandering back and forth. read more

It's a great little place that's conveniently located. It's one of the few restaurants which was open on Labor Day. The food was great. One of the best hummus I've ever tried so far. The falafels are also amazing. The meats are cooked just right. The service was great, especially the lady who spoke good English. She was really accommodating and helped us with our orders. If I were to ever return to Marseille, I would definitely go back to Au Falafel. read more

Every once in a while I get a craving for falafel, and this is my safe go-to place if I don't feel too adventurous. Their hummous and falafel plate is delicious, their outside terrace lovely, and service is basic but good. They also serve some delicious kosher rosé. read more
