Lunch in a medieval setting…read more Imagine having lunch (or dinner) in an authentic 11th century castle. In fact, you can also stay as the chateau is also a hotel with a few rooms. Note that the management has changed the focus of the restaurant away from gastronomic and is now offering a limited number of dishes. Obviously, the scenery has remained the same with the pretty village of Trigance below the fortress, close to the renowned Gorges du Verdon. Inside, everything reminds you that you are in an authentic castle (see photos). The place has an overall look of sophistication with carefully selected pieces of furniture. We had duck confit which was served with an assortment of local vegetables and served in large plates beautifully laid out. We also had a plate of southwest specialties generously served (Foie gras, magret fumé,terrine de canard, toast pain aux figues). For dessert we sampled a white chocolate mousse with shaved coconut and sheep milk yogurt with a mango coulis. All this with a bottle of Minuty rose. The service was attentive and timely. The prices are reasonable. By all means, spend the time to visit the castle and admire the views from the panoramic terrace.

Although the host spoke limited English, he was very cordial, genuine, and kind to us and even came in clutch giving us an adapter when we left ours at our last hotel. Also, ALWAYS opt for the dine-in service because not only is it hard to find places to eat around here, but it's worth it. Our dinner was gorgeous and full of fresh ingredients that made you feel both healthy and appreciative of the type of thought that gets put into crafting your dish. And out of all the places we've stayed and had breakfast at (including outside of France), Chateau de Trigance is #1. The breakfast has a basket of bread, your drink preference which they ask the night before (we got big coffees), fresh fruit and yogurt, natural honey made from the village, cheese + meats, etc. A testament to how meticulous this place is in delivering premium service is how they TOASTED all of the breads in your breakfast basket. I was already swooning over this place, but toasting my bread? You've won my heart, Chateau de Trigance, LOL.

Located in the old walled city of Grasse it's a short distance from the parfumeries that tourists both French and international love to visit. It's best to park at one of the three nearby parking lots and walk through the windy narrow streets to this restaurant tucked away in the former store rooms of a building. There are the amazing arched brick and stone ceilings and there is a nice cover patio in front perfect for relaxing and enjoy the Cote d'Azur weather. It's the kind of place Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware go to get inspiration. Very Provinciale. Specializing in cuisine traditionalle there is a nice selection of a la carte starters, mains and desserts as well as two 3 course prix fixe menu for 36 and 26 euro both with many choice for each course. The portions are larger than at most restaurants in France. There are equal selections with seafood and meat and even vegetarian main dishes, not always something easy to find in France. The starter were huge with my salad being loaded with lardons as well a cured duck and the warm goat cheese salad the French spouse was just the way it should be she said and since she grew up in Grasse I'll take her word for it. The mains were equally good with a lamb confit cooked en papillote in filo dough wrapping, served with potatoes gratin and a celery root and parsnip root mash. The French Spouse had a more regional dish which is a seafood stuffed with fish in a tomato broth, it was served with rice and the parnip and celery root mash. The dessert were huge and tasty. One was chocolate mousse cake with a base of Genoise layer with super light but still rich and chocolatey cake with more creme on top and served with a cup of warm chocolate sauce to pour over it. The French Spouse's lemon crepe was full of tangy lemon curd and served with a shot of kir. The place is filled with locals wanting an upscale but comfortable meal. There is a lunch time prix fixe for 13 euro. The dinner menu ranges from 6 to 20 euros per plate and has to the two prix fixe.

My friends ordered variations of the ratatouille. Putting it inside a crepe is such a novel idea and mixed with egg just made it irresistible. After trying it I wished I had ordered the same. I, instead, chose to order the honey, chevre salad. Those are two things that should always be together on a salad. The sweet honey and the baked chevre are MOUTH WATERING. I am unsure of how this message has not been passed along to American restaurants yet. Please start doing this and I will eat salads daily (or maybe just more often than once a month). It had every flavor you could want from a salad and topped with bread to make even more delectable. The view is beautiful and overlooks the valley. You can daydream about the houses you'll never be able to afford or instead about which wines to try next. Clean bathrooms and decent wifi for anyone who cares. The staff are extraordinarily friendly. It was a great experience here and I would highly recommend anyone eat here while in SPDV.

It is away from the tourist trap areas and hidden in a small alley by the local theater. The restaurant is rather small and featuring one family style bench and 3 small tables. The walls are lined up with boxes and crates of Italian wine. The food choices are small, homemade, and very delicious! The price is well under the usual local's fare. Every thing is €10 or under!! Their specialities are the rabbit, broccoli soup, pasta con pancetta and believe it or not -- chicken finger and fries. We ordered the first three mentioned as recommended and we're not disappointed! The rabbit is tender, the side bake potato is very tasty. Prepare to fight and disown your loved one over the broccoli soup and the fried cheese. And finally the pasta, mixed lightly with Parmesan and pancetta bits deserves two thumbs up!! All these with a bottle of mineral water comes out to €25! This is among the best meals we ate in the Riviera and the lowest price!
