Looking for one last blow-out before you leave France? If you're departing from Boulogne or Calais,…read moredrop into Wimereux, a little seaside town between the two. Here you will find Menus from 23 to 33 euros, all with 3 courses, and a la carte. I think they are open 7 days a week, and they close for all January.
We combined menu fixe with carte - no problem, and were served with memorable meal. Fish is landed daily in the village, and is a good choice. As you can see from the pic, no-one told Dick that the seaweed in the Grand Plateau de Fruits de Mer was not for eating! Portions were extremely generous - more than we could eat. At the end of the meal they left the Cognac bottle on the table - something I haven't see for a long time in France - with a help-yourself gesture.
I didn't stay overnight, but photos of the rooms, and the rates (40-100 euros) indicated that this would be your typical French family-run hotel - nothing de luxe. There's good golf nearby and this would be an excellent place to stay for a short break.
