This establishment removes all the bad reviews that might reflect the truth!! My companion and I went to eat at l'Escale in Boulogne sur mer, just opposite the entrance to Nausicaa on July 14, 2021 at 13:00. We took each one: only one drink, one starter and one dish, we got it for more than 80€! We first ordered the aperitif, my companion had asked for a 50 cl Kameliet beer at 8€40. I asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail at 6€90. The quantity of this cocktail was not specified on the menu but for this price, I expected to have at least the quantity of a soft so 33cl. I only had an drink of 20 cl of fruit juice with grenadine! With this price/quantity ratio, my companion's beer was cheaper than my non-alcoholic cocktail! It's abused!! The entries were good without being exceptional. For the dish, I had chosen scallops served that day with steamed potatoes. I ask if it is possible to change the accompaniment: steam potatoes for fries. The waiter tells me that there is no problem. I'm also asking if I can get a little mayonnaise, again without any further comment, no problem. They serve me the fries with a mini pot of mayonnaise. When I received the note when I settled, I thought that it was not true ! 2€90 extra for changing the steamed potatoes into fries! It's still potatoes! 1€00 extra for a little of mayonnaise!! Among all the restaurants that my companion and I test in Boulogne sur mer, L'escale is THE ONLY ESTABLISHMENT that charges the fact of changing the accompaniment AND the sauce!!! The least you could do would be to warn the customer that there is a supplement to change the accompaniment and for the sauce! But obviously L'Escale prefers to keep the bad surprise to its customers for the end when it's time to pay!! And fortunately that we had not had dessert or that the water carafe remains free! We settled the note without flinching, without even making any remarks to the boss, leaving him the bad surprise of reading this review after our passage. We came out of this establishment, very unhappy and the impression of having been taken for pigeons!

With finely executed dishes, this restaurant with a modern decor offers a good variety of simple, satisfying and refined options. The flavor profile is not necessarily complex but the pairings within the dishes allow for a full expression of the flavors of each components. The amuse-bouche was a red beet mousse with leek micro greens. Very nice, refreshing. The first appetizer was a slice of home made foie gras with a pineapple chutney. Excellent foie gras and an excellent match with the chutney. Unusual and delectable ! The appetizer was a butter seared scallops with sweet potatoe mousseline. Again very good. Well cooked and a good pairing with the sweet potatoe puree. The trou normand was a smart twist on pina colada with a pineapple foam over a coconut liquor/ rhum-raisin ice cream float. Not too sweet and refreshing. The main course was pan seared Turbot with duxelle of mushroom and mashed potatoes. Simple, well executed ! For dessert we picked the croquant au chocolat with milk chocolate ice cream. A nice treat and a sweet note to end a great meal. Not too sweet and balanced. Cold, soft, crunchy. We loved it !
