A bottle and a half of good, French wine, complimentary glass of champagne and a nice variety of desserts. Both the pear with salted caramel sauce and the crème brûlée were delightful. And, if that wasn't enough, they finished the meal with little coconut cookies and a raspberry coulee. All of this for about €80 per person. Wouldn't be able to touch this meal in the US for less than $120 per person. The restaurant was busy and so the ambient noise was up there. That said, service did not suffer and we felt we were well attended to for the entire experience.

I had the tuna, which was perfectly cooked and surrounded by a succulent puree of red peppers with leeks. The wife had the lamb, which she also said was delicious. For a starter we tried the scallops in a cream sauce--so tender and NOT overcooked. Desert was a homemade mille feuille that used whipping cream instead of pastry cream, making it much lighter than your usual mille feuille. The service was brisk and efficient. If you can get a table on the terrace, go for it. The restaurant was packed on a Thursday night so be sure to make a reservation and expect tight tables--typical in France. We were happy to see a number a good reviews on Yelp and an interesting menu and decided to have dinner here. Our waiter was very friendly but did not speak much English and we speak French rather badly, but we were all able to manage just fine. I ordered the Charcuterie platter for my dinner, which was delicious. Dining companions had a chicken dish and the fish du jour. Everyone was happy with choices. Good food. Good service. I would certainly come back.

The building itself is remarkable because the famous writer Jules Verne was born here. The ambiance is classy, and the place was pretty empty when we went, which I was surprised by. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating of my father's dietary restrictions (no dairy, meat, gluten etc...). Normally, dining out with such food restrictions in France is a nightmare. At several other restaurants we went to in France, the staff acted offended when asked to prepare a meal for my father, but not here! They made him a nice salad and vegetable dish, which he enjoyed. My mom, sister, and I were able to sample some classic French dishes here. Our meal was fantastic. I tried frog's legs (les cuisses de grenouilles provençales) and escargots for the first time. Both dishes were excellent. The frog's legs were lightly fried--perfectly crispy, and topped with seasoned chopped tomatoes. The escargots were well cooked, served with oyster mushrooms (pleurottes) and a delicious sauce. We enjoyed pork cheek (la cocotte de joues de porc au sirop d'érable) and two fish dishes for our main course. The wine we had (Domaine Martin Côtes du Rhône Villages, Plan de Dieu, 2013) was also excellent. All-in-all, this was a wonderful, authentic French meal. For anyone seeking a nice dining experience that's not too expensive in Nantes, definitely come to Le Nouveau Monde!

It was similar to the butter at Pierre Gagnaire and L'Arpege in Paris. Turns out it is the same great butter from the master Jean Yves Bordier. His old technique of churning butter in old wooden barrels creating some of the yellowest, almost cheese like butters, Ive ever seen. I guess it's no surprise that Chefs like Sergio Herman, Alain Passard and Pierre Gagnaire get there product from here. It is pretty phenomenal. I wish I lived nearby and try some of his great sounding compound butters. I guess the next time Im in France a trip here might have to be on the books.
