I'm sorry to say that this was the one disappointing meal I had while in Paris -- especially because I'd never had Senegalese food before, and was really looking forward to it.
This is in a trendy neighborhood, with prices to match. We visited for lunch, and ordered the lunch special: €15 for a main dish with rice and either a beverage or dessert.
I ordered the shrimp dish (gambas) and a ginger drink. The ginger drink was very strong; only get it if you really like ginger. The shrimp were served whole, which I was expecting, based on the photos I'd seen on Yelp ahead of time. (I'm an American trying to expand my culinary horizons by eating the heads of shrimp!) The flavor was okay, but was nothing special. My guy ordered the vegetables, which tasted fine, but were a fairly small portion, and were not heavily seasoned. The rice was completely bland: it wasn't seasoned at all, and didn't even taste like it was cooked with butter or oil.
We wound up ordered a rice pudding sort of dish and a chocolate cake for dessert. The chocolate cake was the highlight of the meal, though I don't think there was anything distinctly Senegalese about it.
Perhaps we ordered the wrong things; maybe the dinner entrees are better. (At around €20/plate, I hope they are better!) But our lunch was unimpressive.
My guy spoke French, so I'm not sure about English menus, though I suspect you'd be fine ordering in English. read more
