So when we visited Leuven and he discovered there was a place called Nosh specializing in bagels, there was no doubt we would go...like, the very next morning. Nosh is in a perfect location to have breakfast in Leuven, right next to Grote Markt with a nice size terrace. We visited on a lovely summer day but it was a bit breezy so we chose to sit inside. The interior is nicely decorated with fun colors and a few cozy spaces, rather than one big open room, so it felt quite inviting. And the staff were all super friendly and attentive. We even chatted with the owner (who is great!) about how Nosh has evolved over it's 19-year history in order to meet the ever-changing tastes of Belgians and tourists over the years. I ordered the Nosh Breakfast (18-19€) which included a bagel (I chose wholegrain) served sandwich-style with scrambled egg + bacon, plus a side of 2 American style pancakes with fresh fruit + maple syrup on top. My partner opted for an Everything bagel with a couple fried eggs. My partner commented that his bagel did taste like an Everything bagel - so they got the seasoning spot on! - but the bagels weren't as dense as in the US and didn't quite have that satisfying "chew". They are more roll-like in texture. My breakfast sandwich, while good and filling, was missing sauce or cheese or fresh greens - something that would take it to the next level and make it stand out. The American pancakes, however, were just like home and satisfied that craving nicely! Even though we visited for the bagels, the food ended up being secondary to our wonderful experience with the owner and staff. B O T T O M L I N E : Worth a visit if you're spending a day exploring the historic centrum!

This place was an unexpected highlight!!…read more The pancakes was the star of the show - the chef in the kitchen is doing a good work, we even spotted the two workers in front chowing down on their shared plate of the pancakes - they were soft and really good. Chill atmosphere with people working at their tables with lit flowers in the ceiling, they have a really beautiful spot for being a cafe. I was pleasantly surprised. The lady spoke excellent English and was very kind. What more can you ask for!?

The ingredients were fresh, the eatery is small which can be exceptionally nice on a Sunday afternoon. I hadn't tried bagels before, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Nina without the avocado. I liked that, it shows that there was no problem to accommodate my tastes. It's something different than what we normally have for lunch/brunch and everything in between. They have bagels of the month on their board, that might help you with your choice. The staff was friendly and kind. I finished off with a carrot cake, oh my oh my! Tasty, not heavy on the sugar: it's served with a syrup that fits it perfectly. Overall I had a good experience and I recommend it!
