Classy ambiance with delicious food! We came here after wandering the Champs Elysees. We had a reservation, and were seated quickly in the open-air deck. We had a great view of the comings and goings of the Cours la Reine, and the Seine over the road. My salmon was a bit dry, but when eaten with the sauce and peas, was moisturized and flavored well. My lunch date's duck was delicious! Juicy and flavorful, it was a delicious bite. The bread served on the house is a bit dry, but flaky. The chips were salty and crunchy. Le Mini Palais is in an idyllic location inside the Grand Palais, an exhibition hall and museum complex. The restaurant has a gorgeous main dining room and terrace, but unfortunately they stuck us in the reject room (I didn't bother to take a picture), a small annex dining room off the main large space. It had nice views of the terrace, and at least we had a table by the window, but I regretfully wish I had spoken up at the time and asked to be seated elsewhere with better ambiance. We were served bread and popovers, a fun and unique alternative to the standard bread offering. They were crusty on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside, and had a nice buttery and eggy flavor. The food was delicious but quite rich in general. Mom and I went halfsies on two dishes. The first was the parmentier, a dish of duck confit topped with potato purée. It was luscious and flavorful, but probably contained an epic amount of butter. It was quite greasy and the potatoes were absolutely butter laden. Imagine rich duck confit topped with the absolutely heaviest and richest potato purée in the world, and that is this dish. Rich but good. It was impossible to finish because of the richness, even though we swapped our plates halfway through eating so we could sample both of our selections. We also tried the Scottish salmon with green lentils and bacon. The fish was cooked perfectly and the lentils were super flavorful. This was also a tad decadent due to the bacon-laced stewed lentils beneath the fish. I'm glad we opted for only main courses and not appetizers and/or desserts. Because this place is so posh compared to some of the other restaurants we visited on our trip, I feel like the service was also less warm in comparison to other experiences. Some of the staff was actually a bit rude to us when after our meal we wanted to go onto the terrace to take a look at the view. A server actually said we should have just asked to be seated there, like it was our fault. Very strange and awkward. Based on my personal experience, Le Mini Palais was overrated and the service was lacking. Even though the food was generally good, just heavy, I wouldn't come back here for a future meal, nor would I recommend it. The locations great and the restaurant is pretty. The purple/blue light is a bit odd but you get used to it. The service was good. Our server forgot a requested side but it came out right away when requested again. The food was good but not really memorable. The red wine marbled egg starter was interesting but the highlight was the celery mousseline. The penne cooked as a risotto was just okay. The chorizo added some nice flavor but the pasta was okay with no hint of risotto creaminess I imagined. One star is very tempting. Highly regarded, this is a great spot if you feel its important to be seen by the Paris fashion crowd. But be sure you can compete with them. If not, and you're there to experience their fabled cuisine, forget it. Other than watching dozens of people impressed with themselves in a half-empty restaurant and eating ok food which isn't what you came to Paris for, this is a no-go. Saumon mi cuit is suppose to be something special. It wasn't. The duck filet was boring. The Crozes Hermitage tasted great, but not enough to make up for the food. Fabulous room. Mini Palais is an unfair name for this place...since you're EATING IN A GIANT PALACE. I came here with my family and some old friends as a reunion dinner and we were in awe from start to finish. We sat on the palace grounds under spotlit marble statues, facing the Seine. We were eating on the early side for Paris (7 PM) so there were few other diners and service was impeccable. I started with the salmon fume, which came with an entire plate of salmon and a tzatziki and mint garnish. Fantastic. For dinner, I (and most others) got the tamarind-crusted pearl cod. The fish was light and was bathed in a broth that tasted like everything from lemon to ginger..and perfectly complemented the dish. For dessert, I had a baked fig thing that was very very good, but I'm not sure why I ordered it since I don't find figs exciting. I did love the ice cream that came with it. Others get the Crazy Pot, which is a giant tub/vase full of ice cream. It's absurdly large and a funny dessert for a grown man to order, but I watched it happen. Pictures will be uploaded shortly. Went in the afternoon for a tea break had the afternoon tea with an assortment of cakes and cookies, small but delicious and a pot of tea all for 19 Euro. The room has a wooden floor, not a lot of decorations, but the music is at a good level you can hear the person you are with. The chairs are comfortable. There is outside dining as well. The location is ideal if you are at the Grand Palais or Mini Palais to just drop in. read more

If you have the dough, this is a definite MUST. Customer service= typical 'French" style...a little lacking but better than your average Parisian restaurant. The GM checked in with us 3-4 times in the 3 hours we were here, I loved that! Ambiance= cool light art instead of boring/snobby art. High ceilings, and romantic. A little noisy because of the ceilings, but not too noticeable. Location: right off the Champs Elysee, sitting snug next to to the Grand Palais. Wonderful views of this gorgeous building and literally a stones throw from la seine...with a breathtaking view of the Eiffel tower. Was the perfect place to mosey over to after dinner for a romantic make out session. Food= WOW. The best risotto I've had in my life! I know, I know...it's risotto. But seriously, everything this place brings you is top notch, from the cheesy 'muffin' bread and jar of mini baguettes and various french breads as soon as you sit down, to your drinks and dinner. Quality is the best, and food is created and cooked with absolute love. Even a simple plate of risotto made my experience in Paris food totally complete. We ended up spending a little over 100 Euro for two and we had drinks, entrees, and shared a dessert. First up, this place is going to be hit or miss if you can see from the reviews. Some are fantastic, some are horrible. Secondly, regardless of the above comment, you WILL have stereotypical "French" slow/disinterested/rude service. Be aware of it and just be patient. Third, this is one of the only places open on a Sunday. If you need to eat somewhere Sunday night, go for this! Fourth, as part of the second one, they probably also don't speak English. Don't get the English menu. Our waiter got confused because we were ordering in English and he didn't know what was going on and I ended up getting the wrong thing. After some google translate, two different menu comparisons, and some spanish thrown in there, they very helpfully got me the correct dish. And last, our food was fabulous but don't bother with the virgin cocktails. read more

We had the chance to sit outside on the terrasse for lunch, which was really amazing. The view is great, and the tables are well separated, you do feel that you have some privacy. The food was great, very well presented, and not too pricy. The hostess was very nice and welcoming as well. If there is one thing to be improved, i'd say the service, as the waiter did not look happy at all to be there. I recommend the Creme Brulée as a desert, amazing! read more

This very classy brasserie first caught my eye a few months ago while reading a NY Times article regarding various brasseries in Paris. I dined at many restaurants during my trip and my time here was particularly memorable because it was the most glitzy and the largest one of the bunch. I have to admit, I felt like an important VIP while sitting at the bar and drinking my wine and eating my steak tartare. I say this place is glitzy because it's located inside an old museum (it's inside the Le Grand Palais museum with its own separate entrance). So its walls are tall and the space is very open. Unfortunately I visited during the winter time. I say unfortunately because I understand dining on the outdoor patio during the summer time is an exhilarating experience. I ordered from their bar menu (they were in between lunch and dinner around 3:00 PM) and like I said I sat at the bar. Verdict of my steak tartare? I wasn't a fan of it. It's basically raw ground beef. However I'm glad I tried it and it definitely satisfied my appetite after a busy morning of walking around the Louvre. All in all, my visit was a very pleasant experience. Prices are a little bit on the high side, so I would recommend grabbing lunch or ordering from the bar menu if you want to keep costs down. Also don't worry if you're a local or a tourist, there was a good mix of both when I visited. Oh and by the way, if you see him say hello to the resident black cat for me. read more

Horrible service, received stale bread and the waiter took forever to come over. I put in my cocktail and food order together. My food came right out but my drink took another ten minutes to receive. Two stars for the gorgeous venue, but definitely would not be returning here anytime soon. Currently waiting over a half an hour for my check to come. Overal Update: Last night, I attended a solo dinner at your restaurant. I avoided any real comments back to the waiter, as I felt was overally annoyed by the situation at the time. I woke up this morning, in hopes it may have resided by now, but I am still rather pissed by the situation. I had decided on eating at the MINIPALAIS because of the gorgeous interior and exterior. The food overall was satisfactory, but the service was completely appalling. After sitting down for a few minutes, someone came over and dropped off bread, and he mentioned bringing back the butter, but that was never received. On top of the no butter, the bread basket I received was stale. The next time he came over, was about 20 minutes after that and I had to flag him down. He then took my cocktail order with my dinner order. About ten minutes later my food came out, steak tartar and fries. At least ten minutes after that I received my cocktail. This was frustrating to me because I like to enjoy my drinks before my meal. Also, going back to the meal, I realized that the fries served would be considered the bottom of the barrel, all small pieces of fries. I had asked for mayonnaise, but the waiter stated the kitchen did not have any, so instead he suggested mustard. I waited about ten minutes before starting my meal to receive this mustard; When I realized he was not coming back, I began eating. When I was finished I sat at my table, turned around a few times to try to get the waiter's attention, then debated on just walking out on the check. Literally, no one was paying any attention to me over that 20 minute wait. I got up to go to the restroom as I debated on walking out on the check. I instead asked the attendant at the front desk if she could gather the check for me, she stated she could not. I then went back outside to my table. There were two guys in suits and the waiter and I mentioned to them all that I would like my check. I sat back down for about 5 minutes, no one came over. I stood up and went back to one of the guys in a suit and asked him to print the check. They both asked me how the meal was and I responded with, "ok", clearly I wasn't coming back anytime soon because there was no enthusiasm with that comment. This has been the worst experience I have put my money towards in the past two weeks I have been in Paris. I will be living here permanently and I plan to never return to your restaurant. I thought I knew what to expect here: pretty good food in a beautiful setting. Needless to say, I was shocked when I had spectacular food in a stunning setting (and throw in excellent service to round it off). It was the last night my parents were in Paris visiting my and I wanted to take them somewhere that could provide more-than-decent food and nice ambiance. From the many reviews of Mini Palais I read, the restaurant fit that criterion. I knew we were in for something special when a particularly up-beat and charming server brought over fresh gruyere pop-overs. That's right, fancy cheese-bread. Warm, soft and practically melt-in-your-mouth, these were an excellent way to start the meal. Since it was their last night in Paris, I knew I could not let my parents leave without trying Fois Gras (I had failed with escargot, my "meat-and-potatoes" father flat-out refused). Unsurprisingly my dad was skeptical. Goose liver? Why would I want to eat that? I reminded him what hotdogs are made of (think intestines, lots of intestines) and he eventually gave in. After ordering an excellent bottle of Pouilly-Fouisse, the moment of truth arrived which came in the form of 4 slices of thin fois gras rolled up and sprinkled with sea salt, sitting upon a large piece of toast. I cut the toast into 4ths and we each took a piece. My dad looked at the fois gras with great consternation but eventually bit in. "Oh my God, that is good" he proclaimed "That is really good." I could not express it any better myself. We looked at the plate, one slice left. We looked at each other. I do not doubt that familial feuds have begun in France over who gets the last piece of a really good fois gras, but wishing to avoid that we split it (Although I swear he cut himself a bigger half). The mains were equally delicious. My father had the gnocchi, and was one of the most tender pastas I have ever tried. My mother's artichoke risotto was creamy and prepared perfectly. I had the best dish of the night which was Canette (ducking) with candied orange and honey. I always follow the most important carnivorous rule: If possible, always order the animal in baby-form. The Cannette was wonderfully seared and cooked just a shade above rare. Incredible. For dessert we shared the Baba-au-rhum for two, Enormous and covered in rum and Chantilly, I cannot think of a better way to end the evening and this entire dinner was an excellent end to my parent's trip in Paris. I had the pleasure of dining at the Mini Palais yesterday with a friend and my daughter. We ate on the terrace which was lovely in terms of architecture and style. The inside was a wonderful combination of old and new with an open ceiling which exposed the original, ornate ceiling. We started with a coupe de champagne accompanied by a tasty sort of puffed roll baked with cheese. I had the Vitello tonnato with big capers and parmesan which was outsanding ! My daughter opted for the Pork belly grilled with herbs, Agria mashed potatoes and mustard from Meaux. She finished everything apart from some of her potatoes. Whiting, almonds crust, baby spinach salad, pequillos and capers was the choice of our friend. None of us left anything on our plates ! The service was quite good apart from at the end when we were looking at the dessert menu. Fortunately for our stomachs, because he took so long to see what we would like, we decided we were too full after all. I noted that there is a private dining room in the restaurant as well should you have a special occasion to celebrate. Dining at the Mini Palais was a lovely experience and I will sit inside next time to enjoy the plaster statues and other decorator touches the room has to offer. This is a restaurant that is much better than it needs to be. Located in a wing of the Grand Palais, which is close to Ground Zero of touristic Paris, Le Minipalais is clearly catering to visitors. It's not just the available English language menu (which you should avoid) that signals the restaurant's intent, it's the portions, which are much larger than customary in France. Call that a feature, not a bug, because the food is excellent. For starters, my wife had the tuna tartare, which sat in its parfait dish above a healthy shot of guacamole. It all worked wonderfully, starting with the fresh, sushi-grade tuna. I opened with lightly fried jumbo shrimp coated with panko, which was served with a simple, Indian influenced sauce along with grated carrots. it's the kind of dish that looks ridiculously simple until you try it at home and realize that the pros know a thing or two about cooking that you just don't. My wife's main was line-caught whiting with a bread crust and wilted greens. About that crust: Just imagine this ... cracker sitting on top of perfectly braised whiting. It's fried, but also baked. Savory, but somewhat sweet. Light, but firm. HOW DO THEY DO THAT? And, of course, it's really only a garnish. My main was suprême de volaille (basically a bone-in chicken breast) with a walnut crust and a sunchoke puree. Unlike the whiting, the idea wasn't magic, but the execution was. This crust was easier to figure out than the one on the whiting, but that didn't keep it from adding just enough texture and flavor to wake up the dish without being overpowering. But the chicken would have been delicious without any adornment. It was cooked to a very pale pink that was satisfyingly moist but not remotely underdone. I assume all of the chicken comes out at that same perfect doneness. HOW DO THEY DO THAT? Wine was a St Véran from the Gorges Duboeuf Prestige line. It had much more character than I am used to in a Saint Véran, and for 47€ it was a good value. The wine list overall was intelligently selected, with offerings from around France and beyond. Prices looked mostly fair with many reasonably priced bottles between 50-100€ although not much under 50€. But while it's great to see a white from Bergerac on the list, the Chateau Vari Reserve 2015 was seriously overpriced. We passed on dessert, which looked great going by but were too big for us to even think about. The kitchen was extremely efficient, with minimal waiting between courses. It didn't exactly feel rushed, but when you are used to waiting it feels a bit strange not to. Service was friendly and attentive. Bonus points to the wine waiter, who asked my wife to taste, not me. I think that's the first time that's happened to us in France and maybe the third overall. I hope that's a trend, and that it continues. We were asked if we wanted the English language menu but it wasn't pushed on us. We got to take a look at that menu after dinner, and the translation was weak. I'm not sure I would have known what I was ordering if I had to rely on it. Better to get the French menu and just ask about a dish. Most of the waiters speak at least some English and there is always someone they could ask. The total for two with wine and water but no dessert or coffee was about 140€. Not cheap but excellent value for the quality (and amount) of food, especially given the location. In summary, Le Minipalais is a surprising good restaurant in a surprising setting. In an area where there are so many tourist trap restaurants, Le Minipalais is a beacon of quality. So go, but go hungry. read more

Situated inside the Grand Palais, the best part of the restaurant is the exterior seating, where you can see the bustling plaza and be seen, as well. Although the food is pricey, it is also well-prepared. Our lunch included an excellent cold asparagus soup, tender chicken for our entree, and good creme brûlée. This place is located inside a museum so going there is a treat with its location and historic architecture. We ordered a lot of food to share amongst the group. Best was the tempura prawns and foie gras pate on toast. The beef tartare was a bit too chunky for my preference. The coffee martini was very smooth and their local wines were reasonably priced. The server was so nice to accommodate our request to have dessert outside in the balcony. I loved the Giant rum Baba with light vanilla cream. Sipping my coffee while enjoying the dessert in the outdoor balcony was a very nice experience. read more

First of all, it starts off with good surroundings......in a beautiful space right in the Grand Palais. So it has high ceilings, large windows, an outdoor terrace, and it spreads in a relaxed way across a huge floor. From the moment you walk in until the minute you leave you are under someone's wing.....always being tended to. Service here is wonderful. And then you have the food. Order the Cherry Tomatoes stuffed with Escargot. And the Scallops. And the Chicken. Superb food, superb service, in superb surroundings. read more

Would rate this restaurant a 3.5 if I could. For starters, the terrace is beautiful and has a great view. There is an excellent atmosphere, but be prepared for lots of people smoking around you (this didn't bother me very much, and is not a reason for the rating). The service was a little slow and our server definitely didn't speak much English, but that's to be expected! We were still able to order without any major problems. The food was not as expected, and maybe because we don't eat gastronomic food very often. We got the marinated sea bass and tomato appetizer, I didn't care for the sea bass but the tomatoes were refreshing. We both got the salmon for dinner, and by the look of the food on everyone else's table we should have ordered something else. I was simply not impressed with the taste, and the lettuce that came with the salmon was soggy (I'm not sure if that was intended, but it didn't taste great to me). This was my second time to the restaurant and its was even better than the first. We had wonderful server, she provided excellent service and she recommended a wonderful white wine. For starters, we had the jumbo prawns, burata with prosciutto and the smoked salmon dishes, they were delicious. For the main course, we had the whiting fish, chicken and the salmon, all were excellent. We shared the mille fuielle for dessert which was very good. Tried the Oxtall Pot de Feu, which was tasty but a little unusual texture-wise for an American with little experience with traditional French foods. Great patio with huge columns for an evening meal or cocktail. I had the tomato, burrata and strawberry salad and it was heaven. A huge slice of a pineapple tomato with fresh burrata and tiny wild strawberries that were the perfect amount of sweet and tart. A dish I hope to recreate. I was there 3 weeks ago. I went with my son and his wife who I was treating for dinner. They often eat lunch there and gave it a good review. But this was dinner, and I was expecting something at least good. My expectations were let down when my order, replacing the one I wanted in the first place because they were out of it, was chicken and asparagus. I was shocked to see canned asparagus on my plate and the chicken was dry. What happened to all the French cooking that is raved about? Please don't expect to receive it here. A ten year old could have done a better job. The waiter fumbled, seemed to forget about us for a bit. I cannot give more than three stars to a place where I found someone's big, dark hair baked inside my (otherwise yummy) salty brioche (which they serve instead of bread). The food was otherwise good and they have a nice selection of wines. Difficult to get a table without a reservation. The best thing about le minipalais is by far the outdoor seating area where one drink in summer can turn into two and a nice, long conversation. read more
