By far one of our top meals during our time in Brussels. Wanting somewhere close to the hotel after a morning travelling, a quick search on Yelp for wine & cheese brought us here.
We were welcomed with a smile and explanation of the menu, and quickly got settled in for the next hour or so. It's a really cozy and convivial atmosphere, with people popping in for takeaway snacks / lunch but also a few couples enjoying a bottle of wine and sharing board. You could easily spend your whole afternoon here, exploring the different meat and cheese options, especially as the staff all have their favourite items which they want you to try.
To start we (naturally) ordered a bottle of white wine but took complete recommendation from our waiter; we were slightly nervous that this would mean an expensive bottle would soon be winging its way over, but for €26 it was as we'd usually pay - result! This was accompanied by a small taster plate of complementary truffled salami to 'tide us over' until our main board arrived.
The board itself was simply a combination of items from behind the counter, chosen by the lovely lady herself to match our white wine (and probably judged slightly on our - very positive - reaction to the aforementioned salami.) I cannot remember the specifics of each item but the pistachio cheese was a real stand out, alongside a firm goat's cheese which paired perfectly with the meats and bread. Even the butter was worth making a mental note of.
Despite finding ourselves filling up, we couldn't resist a taste of the desserts; after all, it was our first meal in the city, so why not treat ourselves? Between us we shared a slice of light but rich chocolate cake and a creamy panna cotta with flecks of raspberry running throughout.
I can't recommend Le Mangeoire enough and hope they continue to be able to share their passion for food and drink. read more
