Many clubs in Paris open late (compared to America, my home country) and have hefty cover charges. Supersonic was open at a reasonable time and it was free to get in! The venue looks sketchy from the outside, but the bouncers are kind and inside, the place is really comfortable and nice. They had a band playing live music, two floors to look at what's going on, and a really cool bar. Their happy hours were kind of weird (during happy hours, their beers are priced really well, but it ended pretty early) and the club closed comparatively early. I'd recommend this place as a chill vibe/pre-game to get to see the city in a relaxing and introspective way.

My guitarist friend took me here and I got to watch his pals absolutely rip it in the back room. In the back of a packed room with cheering patrons, they played everything from Gypsy Jazz to contemporary hits and more. The flair, the comradery, the skill, the improvisations, the confidence (I could go on) is honestly the best I've ever seen up-close and personal. And the location is so off the beaten path path yet in the heart of the Latin Quarter, so while it's lively, you might just find yourself the only tourist in sight, which I find quite nice.

This isn't a place to come if you want to have background music, this is a spot for actually listening to music. You will be shushed if you're speaking during songs, but the music is so good you won't want to do much talking anyways. Music starts at 9, but getting a table close to then can be near impossible. We ended up coming in around 6 to make a reservation, then came back closer to 9 and they had a table waiting for us right next to the band. If you can't get a table they do have standing room in the back, and seemed to do their best to pack people in.

From the valet and door staff to the hostess, maitre d and elegant servers the service could not have been much finer. Including coat check from the table and lounge settee with chairs. The bar appears to be full of whatever you would like but a signature cocktail menu that reads like a beautiful coffee table book is given to everyone. The drinks with names like Corn, Apple, etc are given to elaborate cocktails that are crafted with multiple layers of ingredients. Seems weird but everyone loved theirs and we all shared sips. I highly recommend that here if you are familiar with your companions. Call your banker first as $30 per drink is average! But the girl I raised bought it so whatever? Wish I photographed that menu!! Service is bright with ample and thoughtful olive and nuts assortments and water backs for all without asking. For a splurge I could not urge enough of you to try!! Seeing this hotel property alone is worth it right down to the gilded bathrooms excellently attended. We did not try the food as they were just about to convert to first dinner service and we had Xmas Eve dinner for the family booked at a different Michelin star restaurant later. At the restaurant, the price-quality ratio is good and the menu, which changes everyday, is inventive. Downstairs at the club, the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious. My friend that I met it Paris is a musician and told me bout this place. I went here on my birthday and had such a good time. The people who work here are very sweet and kind and its a nice change of atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of the center of Paris. Its a lot more laid back, people let their guard down and the crowd is full of all kinds of people, especially music lovers. The music here is so so good!! I discovered some of my new favorite bands here at this place and started bringing all my friends from school here and got them hooked on this amazing hidden gem.

You won't find anything advertised online (the last true goth club shuttered in 2008), and those frenchies aren't too big on facebook either. Nevertheless I managed to sniff out this place hidden in a backstreet over in Le Marais near the Bastille, and boy was it worth it. Some highlights: ----PROS---- - The setting is VERY MUCH like the Vault in SoHo, NYC. Basically, this was place is a former wine cellar complete with interconnected catacombs deep underground and renovated with a sound system and awesome lighting. Doesn't get better. - Incredible decor complete with authentic medieval suits of armor, swords, and coffins, and laser lights. - Great sound despite being built like a bomb shelter. Great EBM DJs on the night I went there. - Safe, clean neighborhood. I had no problem walking all the way home up Magenta Boulevard at 3am. ----CONS---- - Only open Saturday, and is open from 11am - 2am. Not a lot of time to party for a true night owl to enjoy it. - $10 euro cover - Dancing on stone all night = knee surgery a few years down the road. - The arched cave ceilings are very low: if you are a particularly tall person there is very little space for you to dance. - If you are claustrophobic you will probably not enjoy it here. It is deep underground and labyrinthine. - It is probably far from wherever your hotel is, since most tourists don't stay around the Bastille.
