I love used bookstores so was surprised to find one in North Platte. Once I came into the shop,…read morethere was quite a lot of books, but my biggest surprise was that there were several bookshelves filled with books about Japanese Americans. (It looked a lot like my bookshelf at home, with many of the same books!) Looking at the inscription on the inside of the book, as well as knowing about the Japanese community in the area, I could figure out whose collection it had come from. That's the thing about used bookstores or thrift shops in a community, that eventually things get recycled. So for anyone in the North Platte area interested in Japanese- American history, this is your rare opportunity to buy some incredible books. The collection is very good, including many books about the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most highly decorated World War II fighting unit made up of Nisei.
