My wife and I just had a lovely lunch at Le Grand Chene. It was our third time there, and each time we enjoyed the delicious food and the setting, on the road between the towns of Sillans La Cascade and Fox-Amphou. Previously, we sat outside on the comfortable terrace, but this time we faced a windy day and sat at a corner table inside in the cozy dining room. The menu exhibits the local culinary riches, including many dishes with saffron as an ingredient. We started with two kirs, one laced with saffron and the other with cassis. I began with the mi-cuit foie gras with saffron, then the shoulder of lamb from Sisteron - famous in France for its special sheep, while my wife had the "black pork" with a sauce of coconut and saffron. The restaurant has a close relationship with a local saffron farmer and celebrates his harvest in the fall. We closed with an ile flottante for me and a delightful parfait of ice cream and warmed apricots. It was an all round excellent meal, and I highly recommend stopping here. read more
