DS Café Victor Hugo - Avacado bowl and espresso

A delicious ladies' lunch spot just next to Victor Hugo that is perfect for vegans and vegetarians…read more D.S. Café serves giant bowls of goodness with yummy dressing, a variety of avocado toasts (to cater to its American hipster crowd? This section of the menu was a little too much), club sandwiches, a variety of fresh mixed juices, and tea and coffee. The prices were reasonable for the quantity and location (I spent 30€ on a fresh-squeezed juice, a giant tuna poké bowl, and a cappuccino). The juice, an "énergisant" with apple, carrot, and ginger, was served in a large mason jar with a handle and ice cubes. The ice cubes neither watered it down nor seemed to reduce the quantity, which was pleasing. My tuna poké bowl consisted of quinoa, tuna tartare, chiogga beets, edamame, sliced avocado, cubed mango, cucumber, and sesame. The soy-wasabi dressing topped it off perfectly. The cappuccino, which I ordered with almond milk for a 2€ supplement) had a great foam-to-coffee ratio, and the milk was actually foamy! Usually almond milk seems to disperse unappetizingly throughout the mug, but the guys at DS got it right. My luncheon friends were also happy with their bowls and juices--and apparently the ice cream dessert hit the spot (it certainly looked amazing). The atmosphere was fine, too: white tables and cushioned booths, with a purified décor that didn't detract from the beauty of the colorfully composed dishes.

This was our first stop in Paris. The fried cheese and pomegranate paired so well with the fresh…read moreavacado to make a perfect salad bowl. The outdoor seating was quaint and made for a wonderful afternoon stop. Don't forget an espresso to keep the day going.

I was intrigued by the healthy vegetarian vibe. It's conveniently located near the Saint Lazare train station. This works a bit like a cafeteria or Pret-A-Manger. They have meal deals where you can get an entree, side and drink, or you can purchase items a la carte. I opted for a fresh cod bowl with a side lentil salad. If you don't like lentils, avoid this place. It seemed like almost everything had lentils in it! This could've been because we arrived late at night, right before closing, and there weren't a lot of options still available that late in the day. They have a microwave with reheating instructions so you'll get it perfect. Plenty of seating, and they sell wine and beer too. Credit cards are accepted and even if you don't speak French, you can figure out how everything works here. I mean, you see your food before you purchase it so that removes a bit of the language barrier. Clean with friendly employees and reasonable portions. A great place if you're a vegan or vegetarian, and even meat eaters looking for healthy options will like this. It's not worth a special trip to eat here (since Paris is the world's culinary capital after all), but even in this city everyday fast food is still a mini gourmet experience.

Nice place to pick up a quick healthy and affordable meal! (Also the staff is very nice and speaks…read moreEnglish)
