We enjoyed casual dining experience here for our early dinner. Since we weren't too hungry, we opted for a vegetarian tarte flambée (Alsace regional specialty) and shared it between us.
Tarte flambée (Flammkuchen in German) is a specialty from Alsace and Lorraine, Saarland and neighboring Palatinate and Baden. The basis of the tarte flambée is a very thinly rolled-out base of bread dough. It was called flambée or tarte flambée because it was just kissed by the flame of the logs (I understood thinly rolled-out dough was used to test the temperature of an oven--if it gets dark, the oven is too hot; if it doesn't get baked enough, the oven is too low).
The edges of this "ultra thin-crusted pizza" (my term) was rather crispy and burnt (photo; the oven may have been tad too hot), but it tasted very good with well-seasoned veggies on top. The creamy white cheese sauce was not too thick, but it gave a very nice texture and flavor. Overall, it was a very simple meal with very good taste.
Service was rendered by a very happy man--at least he seemed so. He was going from a table to table like busy bee taking care of his customers. read more
