Recommended to us, and food was good (not great, so 4 stars), but service was bad - one star... Maybe the waiter was simply overworked as he was the only one working the twenty or so people on the upper level, but twenty minute wait (plus 3 reminders) for a carafe d'eau, almost the same for bread (and only four slices of baguette for four of us), and nary a cheery word from the waiter set the tone.. Food was varied starting with foie gras (quite tasty), then a decent entrecôte (albeit a little fatty), smoked pork with potatoes in cheese sauce, choucroute, and a pasta dish all quite good. Dessert was shared profiteroles, not too bad but chocolate sauce could have been warmer. Nice bottle of Pinot noir though I would think there is better in Colmar but not bad if all else fails

We primarily chose this restaurant because the menu posted outside had English explanations on the menu and our French is just plain bad. Once we got inside we knew we had picked a good place. As soon as we saw plates being delivered to tables we were excited about choosing one of our own. We didn't have reservations but we got there about 6:30 pm so it was early by European standards. By 8 pm the place was packed. I had the Pork hock and my wife had the braised beef. Both dishes were fantastic. Our daughter had the kids meal which was basically a hamburger patty and french fries. But she had ketchup so she was fine. The local Colmar draft was pretty good and they have a decent wine list too. Enjoy.

This restaurant has classic Alsatian food, but the food is pretty two dimensional. Of course, their tarte flambé is delicious, as most are, but the other dishes were lackluster. We ordered the tarte flambe with the flight of wine which was definitely fun and delicious and worth trying. However, the catch of the day with nuts (Crumble de Poisson) really didn't have any of the pistachio or hazelnut flavor that it claimed to have. The chicken stuffed with mushrooms and wine sauce was definitely decadent and better than the fish, but still not that interesting. I thought it would have a mushroom cream sauce but it was mushrooms and chicken with a cream sauce. It also seems like they use the same exact cream sauce on all of their dishes, which is quite uninspired. Note that the restaurant is quite popular and when we had come the night before at 7:30 without a reservation they were not going to be able to seat us until 9.

Wiinstub au Koïfhus is a nice Winstub to relax with a glass of wine and eat some tasty, local Alsatian food. I ordered the baeckeoffe here which is a stew cooked with three different types of meats, potatoes, carrots & a few pther vegetables and spices. The meal was awesome! It's very good if you are in Colmar for the Fall or Winter when the weather is colder. Wouldn't recommend it for summer as it's a very hot dish. The restaurant also had a nice selection of local wines, but also wines from other parts of France. I ordered a small bottle of Alsace Grand Cru Riesling & the taste was light & crisp, it paired very well with the stew. The wait times at the restaurant can take quite a while so I recommend ordering a drink & small appetizer very early on, but expect to wait for your meal. The shift we were on had 2-3 waiters but only one cook, so the food was bottlenecked in the kitchen. The positive side to this, is your food arrives fresh out of the oven right off the stovetop. If you can handle waiting & are okay being neglected at times by the wait staff, then I highly recommend trying this restaurant out!

For anyone who wants to try this restaurant, I suggest that you should go to other restaurants nearby. Croque Jeune Homme, the taste is pretty good, but one thing that bothers me the most was the bread was so burnt... I understand that you cooked this with butter; however, as a professional chef, you should know that high heat would burnt the bread, even though you wanna aim for the crunchiness. Angus Beef Ribeye, the worst beef dish we've ever had, compare to any restaurants in France, Canada, US, & even Hong Kong! I have no idea who the hell rate this restaurant as one of the Michelin Guide restaurants?! This dish is 55€ per person. We left 1/3 of chewy tendon & overcooked beef on the brass plate & plates, which my mom & I couldn't able to eat. It's like chewing a rubber band. I can't believe I've spent 110€ on this lousy dish! Message for the chef of this restaurant, Chef Jean Kurtz, although I've learned French cooking in US & have tried many decent French restaurants. Besides a long wait for the dishes, your dishes are far worse than what I was expected! We are NOT the only customers complained to your two servers, who were ONLY busy serving a big party downstairs & ignored the rest of the customers (upstairs) in your restaurant! Compare to other restaurants who are serving dinner on a Wednesday evening, your restaurant wasn't as packed or busy as other restaurants. It's a shame that your culinary skills seemed going down the hill.

I am pleased to be the first English speaker to review this wonderful gem of a restaurant. When I…read morefirst entered this restaurant, I felt that I had hit a true French restaurant. Unpretentious, (the name roughly translates to the "Table of the Market Salesman" friendly and warm, its all about having a good time. I very highly recommend this restaurant. Now, for some details . . . First thing you have to know, is that you must reserve a table in advance! This restaurant is very popular with the locals as well as the odd, well-informed tourist. I saw a few unhappy couples turned away due to the lack of space. The restaurant is truly a small gem and very much worth the visit if you can. The second thing you should know is that the hostess / owner / waitress, Isabelle speaks perfectly good English so language should not be a problem. Her partner, Marc resides mostly in the kitchen working his magic, but he did pop his head out from time to time to see that everything was all right. It was more than all right! Finally, what can I say about the food? My girlfriend had the appetizer of snails, and I had the appetizer of fois gras. The snails were amongst the best I ever had - and since the portion was abundant, served shelled and in a charming glass jar, my generous partner allowed me to sop up the remaining sauce after she had finished the actual escargot. Was it divine? It was divine. I'm a bit of a fois gras fanatic. It's hard to get here in the USA, and when you do, it's very pricey! At Isabelle and Marc's the fois gras was, literally, as good as it gets. It is served sautéed in a pan (not in a pate) with a wonderful side of fresh fig. I wholeheartedly recommend both these appetizers to anyone that wants an outstanding rendition of typical French fare. Our main courses were both wonderful and very memorable. Mari, in keeping with her non-meat preference had the fish, and I had the lamb. They were both wonderful!! Don't think that the French portions are small, we practically rolled out of the place and that's having split a dessert! One final counsel. . . if you can, have some of the eau de vie that they serve there. This is a very strong alcohol similar to vodka, but infused with whatever fruity thing they make with it. I had the pear and Mari had the apple. Wow! If you are familiar with these drinks, you will see that the quality of the eau de vie served here are truly outstanding. Overall, this was not just a great meal, it was a wonderful experience. Isabelle made us feel very much at home, like we were honored guests, not just tourists passing though. Everyone else at the restaurant was (at least) speaking French, and if you can read the French reviews, you will often see something to the effect that this is where the French go for their French food. Please go, and let me know what you think! Say "bonjour" to Isabelle and Marc for me!

This place was filled by 8:00 on a Tuesday night and no one looked ready to leave in less than two hours. When we entered just before 7:00 no other customers had yet arrived and most tables contained a "Reserved" sign. The gracious lady who seated us took the time to read the menu, including the specials, to us English-speaking folks. She even allowed us to sample two different Pinot Noir's so we got the one we both liked. Who even bothers to that nowadays?! My better half ordered the Escargots and the Cordon Bleu nature and I ordered the Spring Roll special and the L'onglet De Boeuf medium rare. Both starters arrived pippin' hot and were delicious. The American-sized entrees were as good as we have ever had. The potatoes, cauliflower, zucchini and carrots were amazing as were the shallots covering my perfectly cooked medium rare steak. It was an experience not just a meal. Though it took a bit of effort to find this fine gem in the Colmar maze, it was definitely worth it. Don't forget the reservation.

I met up with some American friends and we enjoyed one of the three course pairing dinners. The rest of the meal was perfect. They assigned us a waiter who spoke English which was very helpful as we had no idea what we were eating. After we placed our order, they brought an amuse-bouche for the table. For our starters, we ordered Les Escargots d'Alsace de Monsieur Barbisan au beurre persillé and La Salade au Munster pané de Gilbert et Magret Fumé. Les escargots were hands down the best escargots I have ever had! I'm not sure what sort of magical parsley butter they use, but good Lord, this was pure heaven! The Munster salad and smoked duck breast were good. The cheese was breaded and fried and paired well with the greens and duck. For our entrees, we ordered the Jarret de Porc braisé au Melfort, Sauce Pinot Noir, Spätzelés à la farine bio d'Alsace and La Choucroute Wistub de Danie. The pork was perfectly braised and fell off the bone with zero effort. La Choucroute was precisely what you would expect: a plat for sausages and bacon. This pork lover's plate not only lives up to our expectations but also far surpasses them! Never would I ever have expected to say such a phrase, as this is the best sauerkraurt I have ever had. With thinly shredded cabbage that wasn't too sour, it complemented the meat on this plate like they meant to do one another. Tips and tricks! Make a reservation. Des Tanneurs serves traditional Alsatian fare in an environment with typical Alsatian decor. It's cite, and kitschy, and I love the warmth. It reminds me of my grandma's house. It was packed when we arrived, and the service was what you might expect at European restaurants. Unfussy, but they get the job done. This was my first time trying Alsatian choucroute -- what I received was a massive ham hawk served atop sauerkraut and some steamed potatoes on the side. Side note- I hail from a region in the U.S. where sauerkraut is also very common, and I had more the my fair share growing up. But Alsatian sauerkraut is less sour with a more complex flavor, which I attribute, in part, to the juniper berries. Anyway, I loved the whole, stick to your ribs, massive portion of choucrute I received. There was so much ham, I could not eat it all.
